I Am Extraordinary Alone
Chapter 110 - 109: The Stolen Future

Chapter 110: Chapter 109: The Stolen Future

At 11 a.m., Wei Tianyang woke up from bed with a splitting headache.

The alcohol level of that red wine was higher than last time; after drinking half a bottle, he felt somewhat dizzy.

Yaha couldn’t hold her liquor either; after downing four glasses, she leaned heavily against him, and after forcefully pouring three more, she started talking nonsense.

In the end, it was him who carried Yaha back to her room and dumped her on the furry floor mat before he returned to rest.

He took his phone and left the room, only to chance upon Starbucks and Kacha kissing in the hallway. Starbucks turned her head and asked, "Come with us to buy coffee beans?"

"Have we run out of our stock? I’ve never seen anyone drinking it?" Wei Tianyang was perplexed.

"People drink it every day at noon~ You’re always not at the hotel," Starbucks said with a smile.

Kacha tried to kiss Starbucks again but was pushed away as she said, "Damn, Ishmael is right there."

"He’s not an outsider," Kacha said with a laugh.

"Let’s go buy the beans," Wei Tianyang said sternly.

The three of them left the hotel and arrived on the streets of Kongse; the peacekeeping troops had already withdrawn, and the refugee camp had long been dismantled. Wei Tianyang remembered the girl he had saved from a fire; he wondered how she was faring now.

They didn’t go to a Starbucks cafe to buy the beans; instead, they headed to a nearby wholesale supermarket.

Ever since the people from the official Starbucks returned, the beans there became frighteningly expensive. If they were to buy enough for the hotel for one week, it would cost several times more than before.

The wholesale market was crowded, selling all sorts of second-hand cheap goods. All industries in Chicken Snake Country had virtually ceased production during the civil war and had only recently begun to recover, so the goods in circulation on the market were scarce.

Moreover, there was another problem. Li Fei had abolished the circulation of Langke and Civilian Coins in the market. Now, they had to exchange their money for Chicken Snake Legal Currency to be able to spend it, and the exchange rate was extremely unfavorable – those who exchanged it were considered fools, but they had no other choice... so Yaha had suffered heavy losses these past few days.

While Starbucks and Kacha were buying coffee beans, Wei Tianyang wandered alone to other stalls, suddenly thinking it might be a good idea to look for a translation device, so he started searching for a stall selling electronic products.

He found one that recycled second-hand mobile phones and also sold some second-hand smartwatches. The small shop had a few display items in a glass counter, with the owner sitting inside. There was a repair bench under a desk lamp with a sign saying "Battery Replacement."

"Hey, do you have any devices that can translate Western languages?" Wei Tianyang asked.

The seller looked up at him with a gaze that seemed to regard him as an idiot.

"What’s wrong?" Wei Tianyang was annoyed.

"Can’t a mobile phone do translations?" the shop owner said impatiently.

"How do you do that???" Wei Tianyang asked.

The seller’s attitude subtly changed, sensing Wei Tianyang was clueless about smartphones: "Just install a translation app. But maybe your phone model is too old to handle it. Let me see your phone."

Wei Tianyang handed his phone over.

The shop owner tried to conceal his excitement upon seeing the phone, took it casually, and after toying with it briefly, said, "This phone won’t do, it’s too old, can’t install it. I suggest you trade it in here for a second-hand newer model. For instance, this ’Yin Country Enjoying As’ model is not bad."

Too old? Didn’t Li Songyan say this was top-of-the-line?

Wei Tianyang felt the shop owner was lying, so he said, "Never mind, I’ll look elsewhere."

The owner continued, "I’m not trying to scam you. You clearly don’t know much about phones. Your battery might have been swapped already. How about this, I’ll open it up, check for you, and then give you a good price..."

Before the owner could finish, Starbucks and Kacha had already bought their beans. Seeing Wei Tianyang standing by the second-hand stall, she rushed over.

"Hey! How dare you try to scam even a friend of mine!" Starbucks cursed.

The owner’s expression suddenly turned ugly, and he quickly tossed the phone onto the counter, saying, "Alright, it’s over. I’m not doing business with a friend of that wild woman. Take care."

Wei Tianyang then realized he had nearly been scammed and felt some anger as he took his phone and left.

"That’s an old con artist. He’s been ripping people off since before the war. Damn it, so many died in the war, and yet this kind of person is still alive," Starbucks fumed.

"What were you doing there? Trying to sell your phone?" Kacha asked.

Wei Tianyang shook his head and explained his need.

After understanding the situation, Starbucks added, "We don’t have any IDs so we can’t register for any app stores or bind any mobile payment apps... There’s no choice, or else I wouldn’t always be dealing in cash."

What a hassle...

"But... can’t this phone just take a picture to translate? Why do you need this feature?" Kacha was puzzled.

A picture could translate? Wei Tianyang had never considered it; he pointed his phone camera at the sign on the coffee shop bearing the Western word for Starbucks, and within a second or two, a yellow frame appeared around the text, then changed to "星巴克."

So simple...

Wei Tianyang was pleased, excited to understand what the document really was saying tonight!

When the three returned to the hotel, it was already 12:30 p.m.

Some people were eating lunch, some didn’t want to eat and were resting in their rooms, and others were playing badminton in the courtyard.

Wei Tianyang saw a stranger descending from upstairs, a young man dressed in a blue work uniform, wearing a white peaked cap.

The person descending the stairs had "Red Chicken Express" written on the back of his clothing.

At that moment, Yaha suddenly sent him a message,

"Make me a cup of coffee~ I have something good to show you~ Come up quickly~"

It was the first time he had ever seen a delivery to a hotel and was quite curious, so he went back to his room to get a cup, found some coffee grounds at Starbucks, brewed two cups of coffee, and carried them upstairs.

Upon opening the door, he saw a small cardboard box on Yaha’s table. Yaha, clad in white pajamas with her white hair draped loosely, was rolling up her sleeves and opening the box.

He walked forward and placed the coffee on the table’s edge, watching as Yaha took a small, beautifully wrapped box out of the delivery box, about the size of a basketball.

"What’s this?" Wei Tianyang couldn’t help asking.

"It’s from Moby Dick, says it’s a gift? I don’t quite understand it either, but it’s quite heavy," Yaha replied.

"It’s not a bomb, is it..." Wei Tianyang said warily.

"Why would you think that? If they really wanted to hit us, they just need to retract the protection from around the hotel’s location, there’s no need to bother sending a bomb," Yaha shook her head.

She opened the box, and inside was a landscape crystal globe on a stand.

Inside the crystal globe was a black house with a little white-haired girl standing beside it, her arms raised high. But upon closer inspection, the little girl’s wrists were starkly bare.

Yaha put the crystal globe on the table and picked up her coffee to drink.

Wei Tianyang was still uneasy and turned the globe over to check its base.

"Just shoddy goods, really. I thought he’d send something pricier, but of course—I’m not being materialistic, he’s so rich he can’t possibly be giving away street stall items, right?" Yaha said laughing.

"Is today some special day?" Wei Tianyang asked again.

"Perhaps it’s to celebrate Tiantai Pharmaceutical’s last bit of clout in Chicken Snake Country being completely wiped out by us? Maybe. But that doesn’t matter, what’s important is... we’ve completed our revenge... we’ve succeeded," Yaha said with a smile.

She moved closer to Wei Tianyang, coffee in one hand, and the other hand seemed to want to wrap around him, but she thought better of it and let it fall.

Just then, the phone on the table rang.

Yaha walked around the table and picked up the phone.

"Moby Dick?" she said and activated the speakerphone.

"You received it, right?" Moby Dick asked.

"To be honest, that thing’s a bit shoddily made, but I didn’t expect you to send me anything anyway," Yaha laughed and glanced at Wei Tianyang, winking.

"That’s your future, my dear Yaha. I’ve taken great pains for this gift, there’s an Easter egg on that tiny crystal globe. Lift it with both hands, go to the window, let the sunlight pass through the black house’s windows, and you’ll see it," Moby Dick explained.

"Oh, come on, Moby. I’m guessing it’s an insult directed at me. I don’t want to see it," Yaha laughed.

Wei Tianyang, however, lifted the crystal globe with both hands, trying to see something in the dim light but saw nothing.

"You see, that’s where you lack romance. Though our first meeting wasn’t so pleasant, Yaha, hasn’t our subsequent cooperation been enjoyable? I really want you to see that Easter egg yourself, you’ll be moved to tears," Moby Dick chuckled.

"If I don’t cry, you better double my supplies next month," Yaha declared.

"I promise you, even a tenfold increase won’t be a problem," Moby Dick laughed.

"Come on, give it to me," Yaha said to Wei Tianyang.

"Hold on... Who else is in your room?" Moby Dick suddenly asked.

"Of course it’s Ishmael, who else? What, are you afraid Ishmael will see the mushy words you’ve carved?" Yaha again laughed.

"No, no, no... ask him to keep his distance... I’m afraid he might block the light, you know, it’s hard to etch words onto such a tiny object," Moby Dick said.

"I think I’ll pass, there’s nothing worth seeing," Wei Tianyang said disdainfully.

"Oh, come on~ just look~ you’ll definitely be touched," Moby Dick insisted.

"Give it to me, Ishmael," Yaha reached out her hand.

Wei Tianyang handed over the crystal globe saying, "There’s nothing, I think he’s playing you."

"Maybe it’s just too dark. Let me have a look..." As Yaha spoke, she stepped to the window, lifted the crystal globe with both hands, aligning it with the noon sun.

The dazzling sunlight passed through the crystal globe, casting two patches of light onto Yaha’s face, a pair of pale, delicate hands slowly turning into dark shadows in the light.

Then, the window glass shattered...

Yaha’s pupils suddenly dilated, and amber light flickered in her eyes. The next second, searing pain traveled from the wrists through her nerves to her entire body.

She couldn’t even scream—shards of glass embedded in her right cheek, while a high-caliber armor-piercing bullet shattered her wrists, breaking them apart and sticking them to the globe as it fell.

After all this occurred, a muffled gunshot sound followed.

"Mine... my..." Yaha moaned weakly.

Those hands and wrists immediately gushed blood like fountains!
