Chapter 100: Chapter 99 Recycle
Several weeks later.
The tranquil days always flew by so quickly.
These days had been filled with endless rain, but today, at long last, the sky cleared up.
At 9 in the morning, Wei Tianyang went out alone and arrived at Kongse’s rudimentary hospital.
It was a white, three-story building, considerably smaller than the Pei Guode Hotel. The faded walls barely revealed that they were once green, and the interior lacked air conditioning, relying only on the thick curtains at the entrance.
The lobby was packed with a queue of people. Recently, many had caught colds, and coughs echoed around.
He followed the handrail up to the third floor, where he found Li Songyan’s ward in a corridor reminiscent of a prison.
The door was open. Wei Tianyang walked into the room to find it crammed with six beds, such that the space between them didn’t allow for one to walk through.
Fortunately, it was only Li Songyan staying there. He sat propped up on the bed by the window, scrolling through his phone, one leg wrapped in thick bandages and hung up in mid-air by a sling.
Seeing Wei Tianyang come in, he smiled, placed down his phone, and said, "Thanks for coming to see me."
"What do you mean? You were the one who called me here," Wei Tianyang replied as he sat down on a bed across from him.
"Of course, I know. Damn, my leg was broken, and you didn’t even call me afterward," Li Songyan said with a laugh.
"I was in a bad mood. Some of my companions were burned to death that day," replied Wei Tianyang.
The atmosphere suddenly became awkward. Li Songyan didn’t know what to say for a while and could only freeze his smile on his face.
"Right, what about that woman?" asked Wei Tianyang.
"Lin Yanqing? She went back. That was last week," Li Songyan answered.
"So why are you still lying around here? Looking at your injury, even if you had assignments, you should have been sent back to your country for treatment by now, shouldn’t you? They just left you here?" Wei Tianyang was somewhat surprised.
"The United Council was going to transfer me back, but I asked to stay. Otherwise, I’d be lying in a top private clinic in the Sethiyan Federation by now," Li Songyan explained.
"Why?" asked Wei Tianyang, puzzled.
"I want to keep an eye on you," Li Songyan said with a smile.
"There was misinformation about that operation. I should apologize to you," said Wei Tianyang.
Li Songyan shook his head with a smile and replied, "There’s no need. That’s the risk of being a soldier. We could have chosen not to go. Since we did, I can’t blame you."
Wei Tianyang glanced at Li Songyan’s leg and said, "With injuries like this, wouldn’t it be better to send a superpower special forces medic? Why bother leaving you in this hospital?"
One didn’t need to guess; if there was a display piece like Yaha, then there certainly must be corresponding official superpower special forces with that capability.
Li Songyan first widened his eyes in surprise, then, looking at Wei Tianyang as if he were looking at a fool, laughed and said, "Me? Just me?"
"What? Isn’t it just a matter of convenience?" Wei Tianyang asked.
"Sigh, oh Wei Tianyang, deploying a superpower special forces team is not a simple matter. I’m just talking about official procedures; to send out a triangular team, you need approvals from several departments and have to go through numerous protocols. Plus, even so, the deployed ones can’t freely use their superpowers. Someone of my status isn’t high enough to have a triangle sent just for me," Li Songyan laughed.
"It’s a matter of rank and seniority, huh? And as far as I’ve seen, the superpower special forces from Chicken Snake Country don’t seem that rare... nor do they seem stingy when it comes to using their powers," said Wei Tianyang.
First came the Mud Man, then the Rain Man, followed by the Metal Manipulator... the "triangle" that Li Songyan described as needing complex procedures to be deployed didn’t seem that uncommon after all.
"As the saying goes, birds of a feather flock together. Wei Tianyang, you’re still young, but you’re no longer a normal person. You may not realize it, but being constantly around a bunch of superpowered individuals, of course, you’d find such things commonplace. But for someone like me, this half year has been quite the eye-opener... In terms of killing efficiency... you guys are comparable to bombers and tanks..." Li Songyan shook his head.
"I’m not a warfare weapon, nor do I want to become one, but destiny chose me," Wei Tianyang said.
"Do you know? So many people are watching you. The 091 Heavenly Falling Objects are gone, and you are now 091. Moreover, the disturbance you caused in the Chicken Snake Country has already been seen clearly by spy satellites. Someone must have contacted you in secret, right?" Li Songyan said.
Wei Tianyang did not answer. In fact, up to now, only Tomobi Dick, the executive of Red Pharmaceutical, had handed him a cell phone and was still waiting for him to call back.
Seeing that Wei Tianyang did not answer, Li Songyan continued, "You don’t have to talk about it if you don’t want to. Anyway, the people contacting you in secret, even those who are preparing to attack you, are going to increase."
"Are you one of them?" Wei Tianyang asked.
"I’m different. In my eyes, you’re just a youth who has been screwed over by Tiantai Pharmaceutical in a war-torn country. But to others, you’re either a massive killing machine or something to be stripped and tied down to a dissecting table in their dreams." Li Songyan said.
He picked up the thermos from the nightstand, took a sip, and then added, "The Chicken Snake Country is going to settle down soon. Lately, the New Liberation Front has taken a lot of territory from the radicals, and their leaders have fled."
"They’ve partnered with Red Pharmaceutical, did you know that?" Wei Tianyang asked.
Li Songyan was stunned for a moment, a hint of surprise flickered across his face, but it passed in less than a second.
"There’s nothing they can do about it, is there? After the civil war, the Chicken Snake Country needs money to rebuild. They haven’t been invaded; it’s purely a matter of their own people fighting each other, so they can’t get aid from the international community." Li Songyan said.
"It’s just a cycle! Tiantai is gone, and up comes Red. The tragedy that happened to me will happen again to others... Tell me, Li Songyan, what is the meaning of this war?" Wei Tianyang said.
Li Songyan sighed and replied, "Otherwise, what would you have them do? The Chicken Snake Country doesn’t have natural resources worth exchanging interests; even among developing countries, it’s poor... This country is still considered an agricultural one today... The New Liberation Front needs money to get the country back on track, so they have to cooperate with pharmaceutical companies."
"What kind of getting back on track is that... No matter what faction or line... they’re all the same damn way... People like me will still suffer... There’s no difference..." Wei Tianyang murmured, staring at the floor.
"You’re too idealistic, Wei Tianyang. The world doesn’t operate like that..." Li Songyan tried to console.
"No... it’s because they lack a greater meaning in their hearts..." Wei Tianyang said.
"Greater meaning...? What’s that?" Li Songyan asked, puzzled.
"I can’t explain it clearly yet, but Li Songyan, I will find it. One day, I will find the answer." Wei Tianyang said.
"Wei Tianyang... you better not get stuck in some stubborn idea, unable to break free. You still have to believe in the law. The United Council won’t ignore life-threatening situations." Li Songyan said with a smile.
Wei Tianyang sighed and said, "I hope the law operates before evil deeds take place."
Li Songyan couldn’t answer him and changed the subject, "Let’s take it one step at a time, and let me tell you some good news. A few days ago, I received an anonymous package filled with lists of refugees purchased by Tiantai Pharmaceutical from the local military during the civil war. With these, and your testimony, Tiantai can only resort to making cold medicine in the future."
"Anonymous package?" Wei Tianyang asked.
"It was signed ’Mr. White Whale’. The sender was very cautious; the text was printed on the mail bag, but the documents are genuine, indeed showing several batches of refugees disappeared." Li Songyan said with a smile.
Mr. White Whale... Revealing such crucial information, it was likely someone inside Tiantai Pharmaceutical, it seemed, even within the company, there were those who had long been disgusted with their employer’s practices.
"That’s a good piece of news... By the way... If the day comes when I have to appear in court, where will it be?" Wei Tianyang asked.
Li Songyan smiled and said, "You don’t have to worry about that. When the time comes, I will arrange everything, and someone will come to pick you up. The court certainly won’t be in Chicken Snake Country; we might take you on a trip to Yin Country."
Yin Country...
Hearing these three words, Wei Tianyang felt as if he was in another world.
That was his homeland, yet he had no memory of it.
At that time, he was just an infant in swaddling clothes.
Yaha had once been there, and in his words, Yin Country was as wonderful as Heaven on Earth.
"For the time being, don’t cause any more trouble. The more noise you make, the more people will be watching you, and the chances of us encountering uncertainties will increase. You wouldn’t want this lawsuit to fall through because of you, would you?" Li Songyan said.
Wei Tianyang nodded. Bringing Tiantai Pharmaceutical to a complete downfall—that would be true revenge!
