Chapter 996: Chapter 996 Let you go on and on
Suizi found she was unable to speak and frantically pointed at her throat with her fingers.
Yu Jingting thought she was just playing with him.
"If you want something, just say it. Why are you pretending to be mute? Oh, I get it! You want to play role-playing games with your brother?"
This play, it just started on its own.
"Then I’ll be a Mountain King who robs people on the road, and you’ll be a sweet and moving mute female student. I’ll stop you to rob you of your wealth and beauty, and if you can’t speak, I’ll take it as play hard to get."
Suizi was so angry that she started slapping him and protested silently with her mouth open.
She was about to go mad, yet this guy was still playing around!
"As expected of my wife, you’re so into the role. You act like a real mute!" Yu Jingting said as he tried to sweep her off her feet, the small woods and all, simply too lovely.
Suizi bit his hand hard, gesticulated wildly, and with her emotions running high, he finally understood.
"You’re not really unable to speak now, are you?"
Suizi nodded with red eyes, filled with tears of fear.
She wouldn’t become mute, would she?
Yu Jingting was also frightened, and hastily dragged her towards the hospital.
All the way, Suizi cried a river, and nothing Yu Jingting said could console her.
It’s a burden at times to have too much knowledge; Suizi remembered that sudden loss of speech might indicate a terminal illness.
A myriad of diseases flashed through her mind, torturing her terribly.
She remembered he had paper and pen in the car.
So she searched for them while crying, and painstakingly wrote on the paper.
Yu Jingting had to split his attention between driving and watching her; he saw her neatly write two words, "last will."
He was so angry that he stopped the car and snatched the pen from her hand.
"What nonsense are you writing! It’s not that serious!"
Suizi shook her head while crying, holding his hand, her teary eyes pleading silently.
The children were still young, and her husband’s career was just taking off. Oh, the brilliant world, she truly didn’t want to leave it.
"Let’s take a look first, don’t scare yourself," Yu Jingting consoled her with his words, but in fact, he was even more panicked.
After registering at the hospital, the doctor examined her carefully.
The brief procedure felt like an agonizing separation of life and death for Suizi, and for Yu Jingting, it was unbearably distressing.
"The patient has acute inflammation of the upper respiratory tract that has caused the vocal cords to become congested, and the swelling is quite severe. I’ll prescribe some medicine; take it on time, and also you must rest your voice for 3 days."
"???" Suizi looked bewildered, it wasn’t a terminal illness?
"Could it be dangerous?" Yu Jingting pressed on.
The doctor gave him a look as if he were an idiot, but still replied to the question with professional integrity.
"If you take the medicine on time and don’t develop any other diseases, there won’t be any life-threatening danger, and by the way, every young person has their vanity, but it’s not okay to care only about appearance and ignore your health."
The latter comment almost killed Suizi with shame; the small sprout of vanity that had just awakened in her was strangled in its cradle by the doctor.
The doctor did not forget to earnestly advise Suizi:
"Girl, it is normal to want to captivate your handsome husband’s heart, but you can’t do so at the expense of harming your body."
"!!!" Suizi was truly speechless, but thankfully, Yu Jingting spoke up for her.
"My wife doesn’t need to use such methods to keep me; her heart and person are both hers, and I’m the one who chased her relentlessly."
Brimming with protective pride, a moved Suizi blinked away her tears.
After speaking, Yu Jingting added, "The way she’s acting is purely out of her own vanity, not to please anyone else, simply vanity."
Suizi reigned in the tears of emotion that had returned.
Yu Jingting did not acknowledge the first part of the doctor’s statement, but the latter half, he took as gospel truth.
With each changing season to follow, he watched over Suizi more dutifully than her own mother, making sure she wore her autumn clothes and trousers, soaked goji berries in her thermos cup, and scalded her feet with hot water before bed.
Suizi even saw this guy, who wouldn’t read books unless they were colorful, run to the library and grab several books on health and wellness.
Whenever Suizi dared to argue, he would hit her with the "loss of voice" incident.
Suizi really had no ground to stand on after that, she was utterly without the right to speak on the matter.
Carrying a bag full of medicines and draped in Yu Jingting’s coat, Suizi trailed behind him with a sense of grievance.
Along the way, Yu Jingting kept nagging.
Suizi had never seen him so talkative; this guy, when he got going, was no worse than the gossipy old ladies in the alleyways.
"I’ve been telling you to wear more clothes, but no, you just wear a shawl and come out. How about it, frozen aren’t you?"
"..." How does he know it’s from the cold, her voice had already been hoarse, maybe she got a virus infection earlier.
Since Suizi couldn’t speak, she conveyed her feelings through her eyes.
Unfortunately, her gaze couldn’t stop someone’s motherly nagging.
"You’re already so pretty, why care so much about what you wear? Shallow! Do I care what you wear? What I care about is you wearing nothing—"
"!" Suizi’s eyes widened as she looked around. They were in public, what if someone heard while driving?!
"Now you’re scared because you can’t speak?" Yu Jingting snorted.
With a helpless expression, Suizi wasn’t afraid because she couldn’t talk these past few days; she was scared because his mouth was too loose!
That mouth of his, spouting all the world’s most outrageous words, how could it not make her anxious!
"What’s with that look? Don’t agree? Fine, if you don’t agree then say something. Go on, I’m listening—oh, nothing to say? Then you listen to me." Yu Jingting pinched her cheek.
Suizi silently spat at him, this guy really had no shame!
On the way back, Yu Jingting’s verbal barrage was relentless, taking advantage of Suizi’s silence. She was so irritated she wanted to find an opportunity to get back at him.
When they passed by the Pastry Shop, Suizi’s eyes lit up with a plan forming in her head.
She gestured towards it from outside.
"You want walnut cake?" Yu Jingting asked.
Suizi nodded, her big eyes shining.
"Can you eat something sweet? Won’t that be bad for your throat recovery?" He pondered the doctor’s advice.
Suizi put her hands together pleadingly, her eyes filled with a pitiful charm that softened his heart in an instant.
"Alright, I’ll buy you one jin just to satisfy your craving, but you can’t eat too much. It shouldn’t be a problem."
As they went by the Pastry Shop, Suizi got Yu Jingting out of the car to buy the walnut cake.
No sooner had Yu Jingting stepped out than Suizi floored the gas pedal and drove off.
She didn’t look back no matter how much he shouted behind her.
In the car, Suizi couldn’t have been happier.
Laughing without a sound.
Let him keep on babbling, haha!
The outraged Yu Jingting, dumped mercilessly by his wife, remembered to buy the walnut cake for her despite his anger.
After buying the walnut cake, he talked to himself.
"Heh, this girl really thinks I’m pushover?" He considered eating all her walnut cake, leaving her none to satisfy her craving!
But then, thinking of Suizi’s eager expression, Yu Jingting’s heart softened again. Never mind, he decided to leave her a few pieces—after all, she was the patient.
"Mountain King~"
A charming and coquettish call came from behind Yu Jingting.
His pupils contracted as he heard the voice; the one who should have run off had run off, and the one who shouldn’t have come had arrived!
A pink bicycle zipped past him from behind and stopped abruptly in front of him.
