I am chasing a rough man in the 80s
Chapter 984: Burning Like a Lotus Rising from the Waves

Chapter 984: Chapter 984: Burning Like a Lotus Rising from the Waves

Suizi turned around, but since the back row was filled with audience members, nothing seemed amiss, so she turned back again.

Not even a second after she faced forward, she turned her head back, fixing her gaze on a man in the back row.

Seemingly aware that Suizi was looking at him, the man flashed her a radiant smile. Feeling it impolite to stare, she nodded at him and turned back to face front, lost in thought.

Suizi tried to suppress the turmoil rising within her, attempting to focus on the match playing on the screen, but her thoughts involuntarily drifted to the man in the back row, and she found herself wanting to look again.

She wasn’t sure if she was mistaken, but the man looked remarkably like someone she had seen in a financial magazine in the future.

The reason Suizi spotted him among the crowd was that his sense of fashion stood out far too much compared to everyone else.

It was so notable that once Suizi looked at him, she found it difficult to shift her gaze away from her own man.

"Why are you staring at me like that?" Yu Jingting raised an eyebrow.

"Take a look behind and tell me who you see first," Suizi whispered.

Yu Jingting turned around nonchalantly, scanned the crowd, and his eyes narrowed on one man.

"How did the old guy selling roasted sunflower seeds at the door sneak in? I get it now. Among those guarding the door, there must be the old man’s son or some relative!"

"..." Could this be the difference between how men and women view things?

"Wife, do you want some sunflower seeds? We’ll buy some on the way home; we can’t eat here," Yu Jingting’s first thought was that Suizi had a craving.

Suizi struggled to maintain her smile.

"Look again. Do you see any man who made a strong impression on you?"

Yu Jingting turned around again, his gaze sweeping back and forth until it finally rested on the person Suizi had observed.

"There’s this dude dressed in loud, flashy clothes, definitely not a good cookie."

Suizi nodded and then shook her head.

"What’s up? You didn’t notice that you two have a similar vibe?"

The flashy-dressed man mentioned by Yu Jingting was indeed the same man Suizi had just seen.

He wore a distinctly styled floral shirt with a Hong Kong flair, standing out immediately amongst the crowd.

Floral shirts aren’t for everyone.

If a man didn’t have Yu Jingting’s ruffian handsomeness, wearing one might come off as greasy, but with the right charisma, the "flashy cool" vibe could make a special impression, extravagant and unrestrained.

Suizi had previously asked Jinnan to mail Yu Jingting similar vintage floral shirts from overseas.

Yu Jingting refused to wear them, though. Despite always trying to dress Suizi in flamboyant styles, he didn’t like the feel for himself and thought it didn’t suit his macho image.

Thus, when Suizi said that the flashy-dressed man had a vibe similar to his, Yu Jingting instantly bristled.

"How is it similar? I am clearly the more handsome one!"

Today, to match with Suizi, the two were wearing identical leather jackets, their hair styled exceptionally well!

"Who’s talking about facial features? I’m talking about the vibe! The vibe!"

"Don’t start on that invisible stuff. Just tell me, who’s better looking?"

"That would obviously be you, why even ask?" In her eyes, he was the most handsome man in the world.

Unable to hide it, the corners of Yu Jingting’s mouth curled upwards, his wife’s words sounding relatively objective.

Jiaojiao’s lips twitched beside the couple.

She prayed for a pair of ears that had never heard a brother and sister-in-law flirt!

The tension on the screen had reached fever pitch, and everyone’s attention was focused on the game, except for a nauseating pair that distracted Jiaojiao.

As she was distracted, the black and white stones on the screen took a new turn.

The opponent had been leading the odds from the start, and Little Fatty was almost completely suppressed, with his friends and family in the audience furrowing their brows.

Most kids at home only knew the basics, except for Bobo, who understood more deeply, and thus, his little eyebrows were more furrowed than the others.

In the instant that Suizi and her husband exchanged sweet nothings, Little Fatty seized the opportunity, making a bold move; he swallowed his opponent’s pieces when they were unprepared, and the odds instantly turned in his favor.

Before the commentator could speak, Bobo shouted, and the usually reserved child even jumped up from his seat.

Suizi and her husband’s attention turned to their son; Suizi looked at the screen and took a few seconds to react. That move not only caught the opponent off guard but left the judges flabbergasted.

Yu Jingting didn’t understand Go as well as Suizi did, but he was quicker to react.

"Is he about to win?" he asked.

"How do you know?" Suizi, now excited, forgot that she had a boss sitting behind her.

"Look at his opponent’s face. See that old man? He looks panicked, right?" Yu Jingting gestured towards the player on the screen.

He might not know much about Go, but he was proficient at reading people.

A player in the next generation rarely showed such clear emotion; it was obvious that Little Fatty had confounded his opponent.

"Now it’s hard to tell who’ll win, but I think as long as Little Fatty doesn’t lose his composure, there’s hope," Suizi said just as the excited commentator chimed in.

The commentator’s take was much the same, indicating that Little Fatty had a chance at the championship as long as he remained focused.

Now, everyone watching the live broadcast was on the edge of their seat, except for Little Fatty in the match, who remained as steady as Mount Tai, showing no change in his expression, not even a hint of joy.

Seeing her child’s reaction, Suizi inwardly cheered him on.

Winning or losing no longer mattered. Reaching this level of mental state was beyond ordinary people’s reach.

As Suizi predicted, the rest of the game played out with the opponent’s disarray giving Little Fatty the opportunity to decimate their formations. Though his opponent tried to mount a comeback, faced with Little Fatty’s strategic advances, he ultimately lost by half a point.

After the match, the players stood and shook hands. The elder competitor spoke words of encouragement to Little Fatty. Without a translator, Little Fatty didn’t understand a word but wore a mechanical smile, something his coach told him to do if he won.

He felt like a robot, as if everything happening around him wasn’t real; everything had become a Go board, just black and white.

His eyes searched the crowd; after the match ended, the doors were surrounded by families and coaches from off-field. Little Fatty’s gaze found Jiaojiao, and although everything around was still black and white, the girl waving and smiling at him leapt out in vibrant colors, the only color in his eyes.

It wasn’t a pale hue but a rich one that seemed to overflow from his eyes – a brilliance that pulled him out of a black-and-white world.

From her, everything started to have color.

Little Fatty’s brows relaxed, his lips turned up, smiling his first and only smile since the competition started.

When the young Go king smiled, he seemed so radiant.

The photographer, knowing just what to capture, followed his gaze.

The young girl stood gracefully, as if a lotus blooming through clear waves.

In their exchanged glances, it’s uncertain whose time was brightened by the stunning sight.
