Chapter 981: She Deserves a Good Life
Chapter 981: Chapter 981: She Deserves a Good Life
"Your son is about to be in the finals, why trouble yourself with those trifles now? Focus on your son,"
Wang Cuihua hit the nail on the head the moment she opened her mouth.
Suizi looked down, once again filled with admiration for her mother-in-law.
Her mother-in-law deserved the good life, she deserved to be blessed in her later years.
How could a woman with such clear understanding ever have a bad life? She didn’t know if good people always lived in peace, but she was sure that smart people definitely did.
"My son is under closed management now, so there’s no need for me to be there, right?" Jiaojiao’s mom was still worried about her sister.
Wang Cuihua’s face showed disapproval, and Jiaojiao, who had been silent beside her, suddenly spoke up.
"Are you his mother? Did you pull Tiegen out of a trash can? Your family members count as people, but your son doesn’t?"
Her words were too blunt, and Suizi failed to stop her.
"Jiaojiao, what kind of way is that to talk?" Wang Cuihua pushed Jiaojiao, motioning her to go inside and stay out of adult affairs upon seeing this.
Jiaojiao stood straight as an arrow, unmoving, her eyes fixed on Jiaojiao’s mom.
"Tiegen has worked so hard for this competition for so many years, you may think it’s fine because he has the coach with him, but do you realize that the person he most wants to see at every match is you?"
The irony of it all.
Tiegen’s parents had only been present at a few of his matches.
In total, they hadn’t spent as much time watching as the Yu Family had.
Tiegen’s dad had work, but his mom’s excuses were a bit far-fetched.
Sometimes she said she felt unwell, other times she claimed she had to take care of her sister at her parents’ home.
Waiting outside for too long was too much, she couldn’t understand the game and felt bored, restless.
Even a quick chess match lasted an hour, a slow one could drag on for several hours, and not everyone could endure that length of time.
But Jiaojiao thought that if their childhood friends and neighbors could stick it out, Tiegen’s mom, as his closest kin, really shouldn’t be like this.
"He’s a boy, he can’t always cling to his mom, can he?" Tiegen’s mom didn’t realize her problem and didn’t understand why Jiaojiao had tears in her eyes and felt so wronged.
"Boys can’t cling to their moms? That’s a fallacy!" Jiaojiao’s blood boiled at her indifferent attitude.
Suizi went over to pat her, signaling her to keep her emotions in check, then said mildly to Tiegen’s mom, "My sister might be a bit too direct, don’t take it to heart."
"It’s nothing—" Tiegen’s mom tried to be polite.
Yu Jingting, ever the troublemaker, chimed in from the side, "My wife might not say it out loud, but she thinks the same in her heart."
The room went silent, the atmosphere turned awkward.
Suizi cursed him silently in her heart, annoying man, knowing it was enough, why say it out loud?
"Funny, that’s exactly what I was thinking," Yu Jingting whistled casually and scooped up his daughter who had been watching the commotion, tossing her onto his shoulder.
"Off we go — let’s go play —"
As he left the room, a string of children followed him.
They were all out of the hospital, but they could still hear Yu Jingting’s impertinent voice coming through:
"Raising children without teaching is a waste, might as well raise geese or pigs—"
Tiegen’s mom turned alternating shades of green and white, while Wang Cuihua inwardly exclaimed, this Jingting, why is he so spiteful? Shouldn’t he just think it and leave it be? Why sing it out loud?
"Uh, that... He didn’t mean you..." Suizi said weakly in an attempt to explain.
This explanation might as well be non-existent.
Wang Cuihua looked at Little Fatty’s mother’s changing complexion, and sighed inwardly. Was her daughter-in-law being naughty on purpose?
Since Yu Jingting had already pierced the paper window, Suizi didn’t mind being more straightforward with her words.
"These children are all in puberty, it’s a very delicate period of psychological change. If you become estranged from him now, I’m afraid he’ll never be close to you later. He won’t confide in you about his troubles."
Suizi felt this very keenly.
Chen Tong was the perfect example.
Ever since Yu Jingting took the boy under his wing, he had become noticeably sunnier.
Just yesterday, Suizi saw Jingting kick him, probably for goofing off and getting caught; today, with a wave of Jingting’s hand, he scampered after him to play, bearing no grudges at all.
It’s not surprising when other children don’t hold grudges, but this is Chen Tong we’re talking about.
A dark child with a mind full of schemes—if he doesn’t hold a grudge, it means he’s truly been won over by Jingting’s personal charm.
Children can sense whether their parents are truly invested.
"He’s a boy, he talks to his dad about things. Why would he come to me with them?—Suizi, what exactly is going on with my sister? They can’t divorce over this, can they?"
Suizi saw that not a single word had sunk in, and her inner self threw up its hands.
See, yet another perfect proof that no set of ears has ever truly been convinced by a mouth.
Little Fatty’s mother didn’t take Jiaojiao’s words to heart, nor did she listen to Suizi. She was only preoccupied with her own family.
Even Wang Cuihua couldn’t stand it and felt compelled to say something.
"Auntie, if you ask me, this is an opportunity. You should take the chance to send your sister back. You should never have brought them here in the first place."
"After all, she came from the same womb as me. How can I bear to see her suffer..."
Suizi chuckled to herself; your own flesh and blood might just wish you the worst.
Her gaze shifted out the window, where Yu Jingting was leading the children in play, laughing and joking—the king of the kids.
If Jingting claimed he was the second-best dad on the street, nobody would dare say they could be first.
No matter how busy he was, he always found time to spend with the kids, knowing each child’s situation like the back of his hand.
It was the same with Suizi; the spouses had never specified who should bear more of the parenting duties, they raised their children together.
With him to share the burden, Suizi’s load was much lighter; she had brought up Chen Tong in a previous life and knew the hardships of raising a child. Isn’t that what a home is about? Two people sharing responsibility makes it half as heavy.
Faced with those who can’t see reason, casting responsibilities outward, a single burden becomes two-fold; one stems from life itself, the other from the resentment of family members—either Little Fatty is sulking, or his dad is, or perhaps, they sulk together?
Wang Cuihua advised until she was hoarse; she almost resorted to her fortune-telling antics from the past.
Little Fatty’s mother wiped her tears and shook her head, looking pitiable and as though she had unspoken woes.
"If you don’t send her back now, her family’s life will be unbearable. Later on, all that responsibility will fall on you." Suizi interjected, causing Little Fatty’s mother to look up at her.
This struck home.
"She thinks it’s your fault for bringing her to the city. Your life is better than hers, and she already resents you for it. Now that her husband has someone else, she’ll blame you for that too. If you continue to keep her here, she’ll create a scene every day, and if she disrupts the rink’s business to the point where her husband is annoyed, he might consider divorce. When it comes down to it, believe it or not, she could be angry enough to set your house on fire."
"Ah... divorce? Surely it wouldn’t come to that!" Little Fatty’s mother was scared by Suizi’s words.
Wang Cuihua quickly counted on her fingers, mumbling to herself.
"Oh my, I’ve figured it out—if she doesn’t go back home, this marriage is definitely over!"
Suizi almost laughed out loud; her mother-in-law’s "magic powers" had come on so quickly.
That was exactly what needed to be done!
