I am chasing a rough man in the 80s
Chapter 936: The Courageous and Resourceful Young Man

Chapter 936: Chapter 936: The Courageous and Resourceful Young Man

If these words hadn’t come from Chen He, then Ma Dong must have fallen in with bad company at the Working School and picked up all that nonsense.

Suizi didn’t have time to think about this now; she was only concerned about Ma Dong’s whereabouts.

"When did you see him with that man?"

"It was...." Chen Tong’s eyes began to dodge, and only after Suizi repeated the question, accentuating her tone, did he tell the truth.

He had seen it in the afternoon, but he had been dragging his feet about telling Suizi.

Chen Tong had seen Suizi’s frantic search for Ma Dong with Wang Cuihua, and it was only because he couldn’t hold it in anymore that he came over to tell her.

"The gap between your two families is so huge, his grandma is surely up to no good, wanting to secure a stable backing for him, making him suck up to you, sweet-talking you with honeyed words, but people from such humble families are always after money—"

"Shut up," Suizi rebuked sternly, saying in a severe tone, "I don’t know who instilled such values in you, but not every relationship is about money, out of my way!"

Right now, she needed to find Ma Dong.

Chen Tong watched, distraught, as Suizi rode off on her bike.

After he had said so much, why wouldn’t she believe him?

Suizi hadn’t ridden her bike far when she saw a small figure in the distance. She braked hard, and Ma Dong appeared before her, his clothes torn and tattered.

There was a hole in his pants, and he was dirty all over, with half his face scraped raw, a large wound oozing blood.

"Ah!!!" Suizi’s hands and feet turned cold. She threw her bike aside and rushed to Ma Dong.

"Mom, I found you..." Ma Dong tried to smile at Suizi, but the world went dark before his eyes.

Before passing out, he saw Suizi’s anxious face, and the cool tears that fell on his skin.

"Don’t cry...." Ma Dong’s voice was choked in his throat, but it was the loudest he could manage.

Suizi was beside herself with worry.

Unable to carry Ma Dong, she thought of carrying him to the hospital on her back.

The honking of a car horn sounded twice. Suizi looked up to see Yu Jingting jumping out of the car.

"What happened?" Yu Jingting saw Suizi with a dirt-covered Ma Dong on her back, her face streaked with tears.

"This child went out for half a day and came back like this."

"Get in the car." Yu Jingting helped her put the child in the car, leaving the bicycle on the side of the road, not bothering to take it home.

The neighbors in the alley all recognized Suizi’s bike, having lived there so long, they weren’t worried it would be stolen.

Even if it was, Suizi didn’t care; all she wanted to know was what had happened to the child.

On the way to the hospital, Suizi told Yu Jingting what had happened, including the words Chen Tong had said.

Yu Jingting didn’t believe Ma Dong would sell out his family for money either, and though he wasn’t sure if Chen Tong’s words were true or not, he trusted that he wasn’t mistaken in his judgment, and that his wife wasn’t either.

Once at the hospital, Ma Dong was still unconscious. The doctor wanted to examine him and asked Suizi to take off his coat.

As Suizi removed his jacket, an envelope fell out, filled with a stack of cash. At a glance, with her years of experience, all the bills were tens, probably totalling a thousand.

The doctor was surprised.

"Why would you give such a small child so much money?"

"It’s nothing; please just check on him first." Suizi secured the envelope, her mind filling with Chen Tong’s words and her brow furrowing.

The doctor examined him carefully, and during that, Ma Dong woke up, vomiting violently.

Based on the distribution of his injuries, the doctor came to a conclusion:

"This child must have fallen from a high place, he has a concussion, and the abrasions on his face are also quite severe, but fortunately, there are no fractures—How do you watch your child? Do you even know how to be parents?"

Suizi wiped away her tears, and Yu Jingting cursed at a plant, sick of these Monday morning quarterbacks—Who the hell wouldn’t want to take good care of their child?

But parents aren’t omnipotent deities, they don’t have three heads and six arms, so how can they possibly watch their child at all times without any blind spots? The child is already in pain from the injuries, must they also be subject to moral kidnapping by these people?

Suizi held him back, preventing him from lashing out at the doctor. The doctor, after being glared at by Yu Jingting, also felt that this man was not someone to provoke and hastily left.

A while later, Ma Dong woke up again.

Aside from the injuries the doctor mentioned, there was also a large bump on his head. Suizi’s heart ached like it was being cut with a knife, thinking of her child falling from a height and hitting his head.

"How did I end up here..." Ma Dong moved his neck.

Yu Jingting held up a finger.

"Son, what is this? Do you recognize who I am?"

"Dad, what’s wrong with you?" Ma Dong looked at Yu Jingting oddly, seeing double at the moment.

"It seems he didn’t fall and get amnesia." Yu Jingting patted Suizi, he really feared that his son might suffer a fall like Suizi did before and forget everything.

"Right, Mom! I know what he’s up to!" Ma Dong said excitedly, although moving in any way caused him a severe headache, he hadn’t forgotten what was crucial.

"I called him today, told him my grandma is sick and needed money, and he believed it. He asked me to meet up, telling me to bring your family’s accounts, so I went."

Suizi, angered, raised her hand to strike him; the boy was far too daring, not obeying her instructions to avoid meeting Li Tieguang, yet he went anyway!

Seeing the injuries on her child, Suizi couldn’t bring herself to hit him. Instead, she squeezed the IV stand which clanged loudly under her grip.

Ma Dong shrank his shoulders, seeing Suizi angered, he explained quietly:

"I didn’t use your original account book, though. I took a new ledger and made up a copy—the data inside are all made up by me."

Ma Dong had good penmanship, thanks to Suizi constantly making him practice his writing. Now it came in handy. Seeing a new ledger in Suizi’s drawer, he took one out, scribbled away at random, and gave it to Li Tieguang.

"I know I shouldn’t have touched your things, but I wanted to know what he was up to..."

He pretended to make a deal with Li Tieguang, tricking him into thinking that a lot of money was needed for his grandmother’s medical care. Li Tieguang, believing that a child of his age wouldn’t lie, really did the deal with him.

After taking the money, Ma Dong secretly followed Li Tieguang.

Li Tieguang, afraid of being discovered coming here, chose not to drive as it would be too conspicuous—after all, there weren’t many cars on the road at this hour. He came on foot, which provided Ma Dong the chance to tail him.

Ma Dong saw him walk for over ten minutes and enter a residential building. When he followed, the man disappeared. Ma Dong, worried, went from door to door, pressing his ear against them to listen, but could not hear any noise.

Looking up from the ground floor to the third floor, he saw a window open and heard someone inside calling for Boss Li. He climbed up the anti-theft bars on the first floor, reaching the awning on the second floor, and stood there to listen to the conversation above.

Li Tieguang had indeed come here to meet someone, and Ma Dong memorized the entire conversation between the two people.

Hearing that Li Tieguang was about to leave, Ma Dong hurried down but lost his footing and fell. Ignoring the pain, he simply feared Li Tieguang discovering him and ran all the way home.

"Well done, kid, quite impressive, courageous and clever. If you were born in the past, you’d be qualified to be in intelligence. You’ve got the same spirit your old man had as a kid." Yu Jingting was thoroughly amazed after hearing the whole thing. The kid had guts.

But Suizi was overcome with fear, grateful that the building wasn’t higher. Any taller and it wouldn’t have been just a concussion; the child could have been at death’s door.

Unable to bring herself to hit Ma Dong, she spat in Yu Jingting’s face instead.
