I am chasing a rough man in the 80s
Chapter 910 Men Must Fight

Chapter 910: Chapter 910 Men Must Fight

"Who is it?"

"Is this Sister-in-law Jiaojiao?"

Suizi, hearing Liu Meimei’s voice, didn’t react at first and thought it was one of Jiaojiao’s classmates from school.

"Are you looking for Jiaojiao? Wait a moment, she’s practicing piano; let me call her for you."

"No! I’m running out of calling time! Sister-in-law, please tell Jiaojiao to be careful of Li Tieguang, he’s the mastermind behind all this!"

"What did you say?" Suizi didn’t hear clearly.

The phone booth was set up inside a small grocery store, which was noisy with the comings and goings of people, especially since someone was buying something and speaking loudly in dialect, drowning out Liu Meimei’s voice.

Liu Meimei raised her voice and repeated it again.

This abrupt sentence wouldn’t make sense to anyone.

"You’re Liu Meimei? You mean, tell Jiaojiao to be careful of Li Tiehui?"

"Not Li Tiehui, but Li Tieguang! Li Tieguang’s target is you and Jiaojiao’s brother. My involvement is just the beginning; he didn’t give me all the details, just told me to cause your family trouble and distract your attention. Just be more careful, that’s all."

Liu Meimei blurted it out in one breath, and before she even finished the last word, the call was cut off.

Her calling time finished; she didn’t have enough money to make another call, so she had to give up.

Praying that Jiaojiao’s sister-in-law really was as capable as Jiaojiao said, able to understand.

Liu Meimei clutched at the handmade gloves in her hand. Yu Jiaojiao, I have repaid my debt to you.

Suizi hung up the phone feeling a bit dumbfounded.

She couldn’t figure out whether it was a prank or if Liu Meimei was conveying some information.

After Jiaojiao finished practicing piano, Suizi approached her to ask questions.

"Jiaojiao, have you heard of Li Tieguang?" Suizi asked.

"He’s Liu Meimei’s older brother. Why are you suddenly asking about him?"

"What does her brother do?"

"A private entrepreneur, I guess. Liu Meimei mentioned him once, seemed pretty wealthy. One time I saw him pick up Liu Meimei in a private car."

In those days, someone who could drive a private car was not an ordinary person.

Suizi furrowed her brows.

She was sure that her family hadn’t offended this Li Tieguang, so this was very strange.

Why would a private entrepreneur with no grudge against her family target them?

"Have you done anything to Liu Meimei recently?" Suizi decided to take a different approach.

She needed to figure out whether Liu Meimei’s call was driven by goodwill or malice.

"I had a classmate anonymously send her a pair of knitted gloves, something she’d been really wanting."

The things Liu Meimei had done assured Jiaojiao that she would never interact with her again for the rest of her life.

Still, when thinking about Liu Meimei being violated by her stepbrother and deceived by Chen Lun, she couldn’t help but feel sympathy for her.

Sympathy, but not forgiveness, these two emotions mixed together prompted Jiaojiao to send the gloves.

"Sister-in-law, you won’t be mad at me, right?" Jiaojiao asked cautiously.

Suizi smiled and ruffled her hair.

"Why would I be mad at you? Your brother and I don’t encourage you to be a naive little sweetie, but that doesn’t mean you should completely abandon compassion. You did well this time, and it might be because of your act of kindness that you could change—"

"Change what?" Jiaojiao asked curiously.

Suizi laughed and shook her head, she didn’t know what she could change now.

One thing was certain, Liu Meimei’s phone call was definitely not that simple behind the scenes.

Yu Jingting was socializing, and he would probably have several of his confidants accompany him for drinks on such a big order, so Suizi made the call to Chen He.

"Uncle, I need you to find out about someone for me, his name is Li Tieguang, he’s in business. Um, I need to know all of his information, including the scope of his company’s business, his personal connections, his backing, the sooner the better."

After hanging up the phone, Suizi looked towards the direction of the music room. She waited with bated breath to see how much information Jiaojiao could exchange with that pair of gloves.

Yu Jingting didn’t come back until midnight, and Suizi was draped in a coat, reading a book by the desk lamp.

"Didn’t I tell you not to wait up for me, why are you staying up late?" Yu Jingting saw Suizi continuously massaging her shoulders, so he walked over to give her shoulders a rub.

Suizi put down her book and smelled the alcohol on him, then got up to the table where the hangover soup had been prepared in advance.

"I’m not drunk, this stuff tastes disgusting." Yu Jingting attempted to resist.

"Not drunk, huh? Then I’ll test you with a math question, what is 1+1?"

"Wife, are you treating me as a fool? Okay, I get it, this is a hint for twice. Let me take a bath first, and when I come back we will—"

Suizi tugged at his collar, this guy was always thinking about that one thing, what a bad egg.

"I just tested you in math, now let’s test your Chinese. Recite Bai Juyi’s ’The Song of Everlasting Sorrow’ for me without missing a word."

"Even if I hadn’t drunk too much, I can’t recite such a long strip of cloth."

Suizi picked up the hangover soup, gently urging him with a soft tone:

"Such a simple poem, even our son in kindergarten can recite it, you must be really drunk, come on, drink the soup."

"With my son’s mutant memory, only a scientific freak like Su Zhe can match him. And you are comparing me to him?" Yu Jingting was sure his little wife just wanted to make him drink that bowl of hangover soup which was like a wrung-out rag.

If he could actually memorize that long strip of cloth-like poem, she would probably make him do "geography" next, Yu Jingting had already guessed what she’d ask: How many stars are there in the sky?

"Is it just drinking this stuff? Who am I afraid of? Bring it on!" Yu Jingting took the bowl from her hand with great vigor and downed it in one gulp.

All the scheming and plotting outside could not compare to the imposing force his wife had on him.

Having achieved her objective, Suizi reverted back to her virtuous and gentle demeanor, helped him out of his coat and hung it up, then brought him some still-warm mung bean porridge.

Yu Jingting never ate well when he was outside; business discussions at the dinner table meant that he would still be hungry when he got back. Once Suizi figured out this habit, she would prepare some easily digestible food for him in advance.

The mung bean porridge was fragrant and refreshing. Suizi added a little glucose to help him metabolize the alcohol, and the temperature was carefully calculated. It was just right when taken out of the rice cooker; not too hot and not too cold.

With a bowl of porridge in his stomach, Yu Jingting felt much better.

The exotic delicacies outside tasted like chewing wax compared to the comfort of home. Eating was a pleasure here, and watching the beauty across the table was also a delight.

Suizi watched Yu Jingting eat so hungrily, her heart felt a subtle sense of sourness and helplessness.

Yu Jingting looked up, his wife was looking at him with eyes as if she were lamenting the loss of three pounds of ribs.

"I can’t be of help with your social engagements; you look worn out."

Suizi reached out, gently touching his cheek. It showed how tormenting social obligations could be to exhaust a man full of energy like that.

"For matters at the drinking table, it’s better you can’t help me. Those people reveal their ugly true faces when they get drunk. With your tender disposition, how could you withstand that? But speaking of which, aren’t you going to ask me if the business deal was successful?"

He had been home for half the day, and yet she hadn’t asked a single question about it.

"What’s money compared to you?"

"Damn, you’re flirting with me again!"

Yu Jingting’s mouth curled into a smile. The fire he brought back from the dinner table was instantly diverted elsewhere by her teasing.

A man’s got to fight!
