Chapter 891 Smiling Like a Huahua
Chapter 891: Chapter 891 Smiling Like a Huahua
Little Fatty pulled out a photo from his pocket, a snapshot of two girls together.
On the left was Jiaojiao, and on the right, Liu Meimei.
"Jingting, not sure if you spotted the problem?"
Yu Jingting glanced over, and the girl in the photo was a full head shorter than Jiaojiao, of average looks—the kind that wouldn’t stand out in a crowd, thin and slightly withered, with an air of unease.
This plain appearance seemed the sort that was common in everyone’s life, the kind whose name you couldn’t remember after graduation, nor any deeds, as if their existence was merely to fill the quotas preordained by the heavens.
To Yu Jingting, such an ordinary face did not match her earth-shattering deed of getting pregnant in junior high.
That was his first impression; upon a second look, Yu Jingting narrowed his eyes.
"The dress she’s wearing, why does it look so familiar?"
"Jiaojiao has one just like it."
"And the hair hoop on her head?"
"The same as Jiaojiao’s."
"The shoes?!"
"Jiaojiao—"
Before Little Fatty could finish, Yu Jingting had already started cursing in annoyance.
"Damn it, shameless, imitating Jiaojiao? A copycat dog."
No wonder it looked familiar, wasn’t this just how his little sister dressed on any given day?
"Didn’t they say she was living under someone else’s roof, in difficult conditions? My sister’s clothes are all personally picked by my wife, especially those shoes on her feet."
There were only two pairs of those lambskin sandals in the International Trade Mall, costing over fifty a pair.
A normal person’s salary for a small month.
Except for someone like Suizi, who was used to indulging her child, most people would not buy such shoes for a child still growing.
Wang Cuihua would sometimes complain when she saw Suizi buying clothes for Jiaojiao, advising her not to buy clothes that fit just right and not to add to the wardrobe too often as the child was still growing.
Suizi would agree with a beaming smile but go back to buying whatever she wanted as soon as she turned away, afterward cajoling her mother-in-law with that frail, helpless, pitiful look in her eyes that she stubbornly refused to abandon.
Wang Cuihua couldn’t bring herself to scold her and eventually let her be.
Suizi felt it was a pity for a girl at the flower-like age to lack aesthetic sense.
Uniforms were mandated by the school; there was no helping that, but for accessories like shoes and hair flowers, she still wanted to provide her child with some that were attractive and comfortable.
As for consumer awareness, Suizi didn’t encourage her children to compare materialistically nor hid the family’s financial situation from them. She promoted sensible spending within their means, a far cry from the mentality of hiding wealth as represented by the older generation like Wang Cuihua.
Hearing Yu Jingting curse Liu Meimei, Little Fatty’s face showed a look of relief, pleased to find backing; it wasn’t just him who disliked Liu Meimei!
"Those shoes, she said were discarded by her stepfather’s sister and she picked them up to wear. As for the hair hoop and such, she also said they were bought for her by her stepfather. Basically, everything was a coincidence."
Little Fatty had even seen her using the same erasers and rulers as Jiaojiao.
These things Jiaojiao never took to heart, but Little Fatty felt disgusted.
He always thought there couldn’t be that many coincidences, that it was Liu Meimei deliberately imitating Jiaojiao, giving him an uncomfortable feeling as if he were seeing Jiaojiao looking into a mirror.
Lately, Liu Meimei had even started to mimic Jiaojiao’s catchphrases, making Little Fatty reluctant to approach whenever he saw her clinging to Jiaojiao.
"If it was just copying clothes, I could tolerate it, but her own behavior is indecent, and yet she drags Jiaojiao to accompany her to the hospital... to get that kind of medicine."
As Little Fatty said this, his face turned red.
Being an adolescent boy, he had some understanding, but not a complete grasp of these matters, and he had mustered quite a bit of courage to discuss it with Yu Jingting.
Because it was too private, he felt too embarrassed to go to Suizi and instead approached Yu Jingting, finding it extremely awkward to discuss pregnancy and such matters with an elder of the opposite sex.
"I’ve analyzed Liu Meimei’s past behavior, and there’s a high likelihood that she would claim to be too scared and have Jiaojiao fetch the medicine for her."
"What kind of shitty friends has this girl made!" Yu Jingting ground his teeth.
Such lousy friends, what’s there worth protecting that she even wants to hide it from the family.
A minor girl, accompanying another to the hospital to get abortion pills.
If someone saw that, who knows what rumors would spread, if Jiaojiao dared to go, Yu Jingting would break her legs.
"Jingting, don’t be mad at Jiaojiao, it’s my fault. I couldn’t stop her from hanging out with people she shouldn’t be hanging out with," Little Fatty, afraid that Yu Jingting would punish Jiaojiao, hurried to stand up for her.
Yu Jingting’s hand, which was knocking on the table, pressed down with a smack.
"You really don’t consider yourself an outsider."
Upon hearing this, Little Fatty hung his head in sadness.
"Getting cold feet?" Yu Jingting asked.
Without any hesitation, Little Fatty shook his head.
"All I want now is to be there for Jiaojiao as a friend as she grows up, as long as she is happy and safe, even if in the future—"
In the future, he would personally hand her over to the man she loved, this sentence stuck in his throat.
Yu Jingting kicked him.
"What are you doing, performing a melodramatic soap opera for me? Have you gone crazy from playing chess? Do you know how I got your sister-in-law?"
Little Fatty shook his head but his eyes were filled with anticipation.
"Life is like playing chess, taking one step and planning ten ahead is wisdom, but taking one step and worrying about a hundred is foolish, you end up doing nothing, you just need to know what you should and shouldn’t do now, get these ten steps right in front of you, and then focus on the next ten."
As long as each "ten steps right in front of you" is clear, the future will naturally be a smooth path.
Yu Jingting really didn’t dislike Little Fatty, otherwise, he wouldn’t have shared this with him.
Little Fatty seemed to understand something, looking at Yu Jingting with admiration, Yu Jingting casually waved his hand.
"Jiaojiao has me and her sister-in-law, you go back and sort out your own affairs. You’ve got a few months before the competition, my wife has high hopes for you, you’ll be representing the country, so don’t disgrace the nation, don’t disgrace Dongbei."
Little Fatty nodded eagerly, as if injected with adrenaline.
He would definitely secure a good ranking to live up to Jingting’s expectations.
"Don’t say cheesy stuff to me like some woman, it’s not necessary," Yu Jingting signaled him to continue with the chess game.
But just when this game was almost over, he said in a particularly nonchalant tone:
"If you end up like Chen Lun, I’ll kill you."
"If that day really comes, don’t dirty your hands, I’ll deal with it myself," Little Fatty’s marble bounced all the way into Yu Jingting’s headquarters.
Yu Jingting cursed under his breath.
The little rascal, when did he hide a "bridge" in his game? He had been too careless!
Suizi came back from Chen Lijun’s place in a huff, only to see her man very disgracefully flipping the chessboard—a classic scene.
The marbles rolled all over the ground.
"Slip of hand, this round doesn’t count~" Yu Jingting stood with a hand on his hip.
"Playing dirty even when playing chess with a kid, you really have no shame," Suizi fired back at him and then turned to go inside.
Yu Jingting knew from her reaction that she must have hit a wall at her mother’s.
"Get those chess pieces collected. If there’s one missing, I’ll turn you into a marble to play with!" Yu Jingting threatened Little Fatty and then went inside to comfort his wife.
After finishing her piano practice, Jiaojiao came out and saw Little Fatty squatting in the courtyard picking up marbles, his back to her, shoulders shaking.
"What’s wrong, did my brother bully you? You shouldn’t be crying—"
Jiaojiao thought he was crying out of grievance and wanted to comfort him, but Little Fatty lifted his head, startling Jiaojiao.
