Chapter 884: Chapter 884: This Time, The Mastermind is Actually Bobo
Jiaojiao thought she was undetected, like a ghost slipping by unnoticed.
Little did she know, her entire behavior was under Suizi’s surveillance.
Suizi even took out a telescope and did not put it down until she saw Jiaojiao sneak into the backyard of the chubby kid’s house, then she relaxed.
Meeting Yu Jingting’s teasing gaze, Suizi just shrugged her shoulders.
"Even though it’s just the front and back yards, I still need to pay attention to safety concerns when the kids go out at night."
Yu Jingting’s restless heart was put at ease.
With his wife’s cautious nature, considering even the issues of travel, how could she possibly indulge in puppy love under her watch?
"Mommy~" Bobo stood in the courtyard, waving enthusiastically at his parents on the roof.
"Where’s your sister?" Suizi asked.
Bobo pointed straight up.
Suizi looked up and was startled.
Luoluo had actually climbed up by herself!
Suizi and her husband had a habit of watching the stars and the moon, and Yu Jingting had specifically made a safe ladder for her to climb.
But no matter how safe it was, it wasn’t meant for a child as big as Luoluo to climb.
Suizi, out of anger, pulled Luoluo over and put her over her knee to give her a few slaps.
Before her hand even touched her, Luoluo started bawling at the top of her lungs, like thunder without rain.
Yu Jingting, who was tenderhearted about his maiden, hurriedly picked her up.
"Just a token gesture will do, otherwise our parents are going to nag us."
Suizi pointed at Yu Jingting’s nose.
"Educating a child is merely a token gesture? Too indulgent a father yields a spoilt child! Small faults unattended will lead to greater dangers! If we don’t put a stop to such risky behavior, what if she climbs even taller buildings in the future?"
"Our maiden knows her limits, right? She knows better than to do something dangerous."
Luoluo nodded obediently, "I definitely won’t climb anything taller than this."
While Suizi was lecturing her daughter, Yu Jingting took the opportunity to go down and bring his son up, and the family of four sat on a mat to watch the stars.
The rooftop had already been turned by Yu Jingting into a romantic little nest for him and his wife, featuring not only a cool mat but also a tea table and a fruit tray to enjoy tea and fruits.
Besides holding a telescope, there was also a small, freestanding astronomical telescope—one for keeping an eye on the surroundings and one for leisurely stargazing. "Mommy, can I borrow this telescope?" Bobo pointed at Suizi’s telescope.
"What do you need the telescope for?" Suizi asked.
"Well, for research. Godfather said, ’Practice is the sole criterion of truth.’ ’Empty talk is less useful than action.’" Little Luobo occasionally went to the laboratory to play with Su Zhe, whose prized lab equipment he could use freely.
"Okay, you can borrow it, but don’t break it."
Suizi handed the telescope to Bobo.
If Suizi could have predicted what would happen tomorrow, she would deeply regret her decision to lend out the telescope today.
Jiaojiao sneaked into the chubby kid’s backyard and mimicked a cat’s call three times.
The back door creaked open, and the chubby kid emerged.
"Your parents didn’t see you, right?" Jiaojiao asked.
"They’re watching TV; they didn’t notice." The chubby kid opened the back door and let Jiaojiao in.
The two kids tiptoed like thieves into the chubby kid’s room.
After closing the door, Jiaojiao asked the chubby kid:
"Does it still hurt?"
"It’s nothing; I hardly feel it anymore."
Jiaojiao looked at the wound on top of the chubby kid’s head, her eyes reddening, gritting her teeth.
"Chen Lun has gone too far. You have a competition this winter. What if he had knocked you senseless? Could he afford to make amends?"
She could not put her mind at ease unless this vendetta was avenged.
"Jiaojiao, I think we should plan for the long term when dealing with this issue; there are some doubtful points to consider."
Seeing Jiaojiao’s emotional state, the chubby kid thought it through and decided to share his judgment.
"Doubtful points?"
"Chen Lun is a scoundrel, that’s true, but he’s not brazen enough for this. If he really is behind this, there must be some other force behind him. Since your brother-in-law is also involved, we can’t rule out this being a business tactic."
Little Fatty shared his thoughts with Jiaojiao.
Jiaojiao’s brows were tightly furrowed.
She had thought it was a grudge that could be settled with a beating, but she hadn’t expected it to involve so much more.
"And judging by Jingting’s and his wife’s capabilities, they might have already noticed the problem. Keeping it from them out of loyalty to your classmates might be just another step in the opponent’s plan."
"How can you think so much? That’s pretty impressive." Jiaojiao looked at Little Fatty with the same admiration she had for her sister-in-law.
Little Fatty scratched his head a bit embarrassedly.
"Inertia in thinking, I guess. I can’t control it."
The mind of a chess player works that way, prone to considering many possibilities.
"So, what do you mean?" Jiaojiao asked Little Fatty.
"Why not just tell sister-in-law? She always has a broader perspective on issues than we do. We’re limited in the information we can get at school, and you know what kind of person she is."
Suizi wasn’t someone to gossip. Whatever reached her ears would certainly not be spread elsewhere.
Jiaojiao obviously took all this to heart and fell into deep thought.
"I’ll think about this again when I get back."
"One last question—"
Little Fatty was about to say that Jiaojiao had gone to great lengths just to protect Liu Meimei, but he felt instinctively there was something off about Liu Meimei.
However, seeing how determined Jiaojiao was to defend her friend, Little Fatty swallowed the words that were on the tip of his tongue.
"What’s the last question?" Jiaojiao asked.
Little Fatty shook his head, lost in contemplation.
Just what does it truly mean to be good to someone?
Is it to indulge her in doing whatever she wants, winning her affection in the process, or is it to have the resolve to cause her temporary unhappiness for a potentially better outcome?
Little Fatty was somewhat lost; winning a girl’s affection was much harder than playing chess.
On the next day, Little Fatty went to Old Yu’s house to do homework after school.
Just as he and Jiaojiao entered the courtyard, they were met with deafening cries.
Two Little Luobos stood side by side against the wall, crying their lungs out.
Suizi sat under the grape trellis, engrossed in her book, seemingly oblivious to the children’s wailing.
"Sister-in-law, what happened?" Jiaojiao felt a pang of heartache seeing the two babies crying like that.
"They were misbehaving in kindergarten," Suizi said through gritted teeth.
Jiaojiao thought it was odd.
"Isn’t Luoluo frequently called in by his parents?"
She thought Suizi had gotten used to it by now.
Luoluo had the typical mischievous gene of the Yu family, always causing trouble every other day.
Before having children, Suizi could never have imagined her thin skin could become as thick as it was now.
Every time she bowed deeply in apology to the teachers, she felt her skin was thicker than a city wall. She had thought about the saying ’a mother being strong for her children,’ but never that ’a mother’s face could be so thick...’
"This time Luoluo was an accomplice, and the main culprit is that one." Suizi nodded towards her son.
The named Bobo cried even louder.
"Eh? Bobo?" Jiaojiao was even more curious.
Bobo was known as the well-behaved child, usually dragged into trouble by Luoluo, mostly being an "accomplice."
Now suddenly becoming the main instigator, she was very curious about just how serious his misbehavior was.
Jiaojiao wanted to ask more, but Little Fatty, who had been silent since they arrived, had already sensed that something was wrong.
First, Little Luobo’s wails were so loud, yet their immediate family, who doted on them the most, hadn’t come out to intervene.
Second, Jingting’s car wasn’t in the courtyard.
This indicated that sister-in-law had sent everyone away.
The sharp instincts of a chess player led Little Fatty to realize that the situation was far from simple. The outwardly calm sister-in-law was surely harboring a storm inside, the kind that would explode with even a slight trigger!
Little Fatty made a split-second decision, stepping in a second before Jiaojiao could unwittingly light the fuse and become cannon fodder herself.
