Chapter 868 Basic Respect for Elderly Single Elders
Chapter 868: Chapter 868 Basic Respect for Elderly Single Elders
The steaming copper hot pot exuded a tantalizing aroma, and the selected lamb was as thin as cicada wings.
A colorful array of dishes covered the table, but the three people seated around it were not focused on the delicious food.
Old Master Hu was coaxed here by Suizi, who only wanted to unravel the numerous mysteries in his heart, but every time he tried to speak, Suizi would interrupt him.
"Try this lamb, it’s one of our specialties here."
"..." Old Master Hu watched speechlessly as Suizi placed the cooked meat into Yu Jingting’s bowl.
When she introduced the food, could she not keep serving it to others?
"Tripe also needs to be cooked for the right amount of time, 2 minutes is just right, it rolls up and is ready to eat, overcook it and it becomes too tough to chew."
Still, she scooped it up for Yu Jingting.
Old Master Hu watched as Yu Jingting ate, sweating profusely; wasn’t the young man afraid of choking?
"How did you know—"
"The fish maw changes color when it’s ready. Eat more of it, Jingting, you’ve only been away for a few days and you look haggard."
Old Master Hu was at his wit’s end.
"He was well-fed and looked after at my place, and he turned it upside down; how is he haggard?"
Old Master Hu thought that the truly haggard one should be himself. The young people had thrown his meticulously planned chess game into utter disarray.
Even the bet he’d thought was a sure win had ended in complete defeat.
Thinking about it, Old Master Hu’s temper flared up again. He slammed his chopsticks down, about to explode, when he heard the man, who had been stuffing his face, say leisurely:
"Don’t you want to know the truth? My wife hates wasting food the most. If you dare flip the table, she’ll never tell you the truth."
Old Master Hu sat back down, frustrated, staring resentfully at the shameless couple in front of him.
"Wife, don’t just take care of me, you should eat too," said Yu Jingting, not yet satisfied with his sweet-talking, puckering his lips in front of the old man, and planted a kiss on Suizi with his mouth full of the scent of sesame sauce.
Old Master Hu suddenly felt the entire table of food greasy because of the distasteful man and woman.
He felt he might never eat hot pot again in his life.
Suizi had fed Yu Jingting his fill, and she too was satisfied with her meal, even having two bottles of ice-cold soda. When she wanted a third bottle, Yu Jingting objected.
"Drink less cold stuff, have some Chrysanthemum Tea instead."
Old Master Hu was yet again shown up. In all his years, no one had dared to be so brazen in front of him.
"Eat more bitter melon, it’ll help cool you down," said Suizi, finally taking the initiative to serve a dish to Old Master Hu. The insult was minor, but the humiliation was strong.
She served her man meat, but offered him only bitter melon? Old Master Hu was fed up—and boiling with anger.
"Server, bring us another pot of extra-strong Ku Ding tea," Suizi called out.
The waiter came over with a troubled expression; they didn’t have that, did they?
Serving such a thing to customers, did they want to close the shop?
"No worries, I brought some," Suizi said, pulling out a tea bag from her bag, "Make sure it’s extra strong for the old man, he’s Chinese, you have to let him feel the warmth of the motherland, and don’t add sugar, that would be disrespectful."
"Are you trying to poison me?" Old Master Hu looked at the murky liquid the server brought, which didn’t look like anything palatable.
"During the days Jingting wasn’t home, my father-in-law and I relied on this to get by," Suizi said, glancing at Yu Jingting who immediately sat up straight.
"Wife, I’ll take care of your panties and socks for the next few days, I’ll wash them by hand!" His wife had it tough!
"..." Suizi’s face heated up, and she gave him a fierce kick.
Couldn’t this kind of task, rinsing out bitter tea leaves, be discussed privately?
But seeing the disgusted expression on Old Master Hu’s face, Suizi felt a sense of satisfaction in her heart.
"You should be more mindful in front of your elders."
"Hmph, at least you have some manners. Don’t mention just you two, even your father-in-law wouldn’t dare to be so reckless in front of me," Old Master Hu boasted.
"That would definitely be just my dad seeing you alone. Don’t believe me? Bring my mom before him, and I dare you to say this again," Jingting knew his father too well.
"Next time, tell dad to show a bit more respect for an unmarried elder of advanced age."
Old Master Hu felt another stab in the heart. Why add the words ’unmarried elder of advanced age’ in front of ’elder’?
"I’ve already told you, betting isn’t off the table, but you have to be able to afford to lose. My wife is quite generous normally, but she won’t tolerate anything that compromises my safety. Remember the last one who angered me? She tied him up and took how many humiliating photos?"
Old Master Hu remained unconvinced.
Although he had started to appreciate Suizi’s intelligence, he could never believe that a young girl could seek revenge on him; he did not take Jingting’s "friendly warning" to heart.
Suizi stood up and personally poured a cup of Ku Ding tea she had brought for Old Master Hu.
"This cup is for you."
Old Master Hu didn’t move; heh, just the look of it said it was something fancy. He wasn’t biting.
"Forget it, wife. He’s too scared, even frightened by a young daughter-in-law like you. Don’t waste the good stuff; just pour it for me instead," Jingting pretended to reach for it.
For Old Master Hu, this was a blow to his pride. He snatched it away and drained it in one go, feeling his taste buds go numb, trying not to vomit while holding it back.
Heh, I’ll fix you! Suizi thought to herself, her inner villain laughing with arms akimbo.
She had tripled the amount of Ku Ding in the tea and even added a pinch of laxative leaves.
After guessing that it was Old Master Hu who had instigated everything, she began plotting her revenge.
Since he was an important person to her father-in-law, she didn’t want to go "too far" - just stirring up his insides enough for a good purge would lightly convey her message.
After Old Master Hu drank Suizi’s specially-fortified tea, she finally stopped keeping him in suspense.
"My guess is that you bet with Jingting on whether I’m just an ordinary housewife, because you don’t believe I’m the one who saw through your plot, nor are you willing to accept that the three Jinnan strategies were my doing. That’s why you pressured my husband to play along with you."
This old man and Jinnan’s father had the same regard for women deep down; they could accept defeat, but not defeat by a woman.
To prove that I was incapable, you staged this drama, coaxing Jingting to feign affection with another woman. If I threw a fit, Old Master Hu would win; but if I saw through this act, then Jingting would win.
Jingting himself was reluctant to get involved in such a distasteful bet, but Old Master Hu’s stake was too high to refuse. Otherwise, the scheme he and his wife had laid out would have gone to waste.
Jingting was fully confident in his wife’s intelligence, which was why he agreed to the wager.
"Actually, you lost not to me, but to your own arrogance. If you had changed the setting, I might indeed have gotten upset as you wished, turning him into ’Beijing Lamb’."
"What do you mean?"
"Beijing Lamb always uses castrated rams, and this little lady is vicious. What she means is, if I dared to fool around, she would ’geld’ me."
"As a man, you’re not ashamed at all?" Old Master Hu was stunned by Jingting’s thick-skinned response.
"What is there for me to be ashamed of? Such a thing will never happen in my life. Her threats are baseless, round it off and it’s as if they don’t exist. Plus, my wife is wildly in love with me; I’m so pleased with myself I can hardly contain it. What do I have to be ashamed of—hey, you old bachelor wouldn’t understand."
"But why did you say that a change of setting would have convinced you?" At this point, Old Master Hu was confused, feeling that he understood the words said by the young lady across him, but when put together, they made no sense to him.
