Chapter 849: Chapter 849: A Great Hero (Extra for 400+ monthly tickets)
The restaurant Suizi chose was an old brand, known for its distinctive dishes, which Jinnan seemed to enjoy a lot.
Suizi intended to establish a friendship, not only because of her personal admiration for a heroic woman like Jinnan, but she also wanted to get a sense of Jinnan’s background.
Even though she had her ulterior motives, Suizi still couldn’t extract any valuable information during the meal.
Jinnan was very forthright, and she had a great time talking with Suizi during the meal. The kids loved her too, pestering her with countless questions about her life, to which she answered without hesitation or reservation.
If it wasn’t for the Tianlong Society affiliation hanging over them, Suizi felt that she and Yu Jingting might have already become friends with Jinnan.
Since the meal was coming to an end and they had chatted about many trivial things but none of the crucial ones, Suizi excused herself to go to the toilet, planning to organize her thoughts and decide how to properly broach the subject.
Suizi’s intuition told her that Jinnan bore no ill will.
However, given her position, she couldn’t act solely on intuition, as she bore responsibilities and had family to think about. Every decision she made had to be error-free.
Upon leaving the toilet, Suizi was confronted by two drunken men.
The stench of alcohol made her instinctively sidestep to avoid any interaction with them.
But one of the drunks saw Suizi, and his eyes immediately lit up.
Today, Suizi was wearing flared pants with a white, blue-patterned, ruffled collar short sleeve top, her hair tied in a ponytail, revealing her porcelain white neck. Her collarbone necklace held a peanut-sized piece of imperial green set in gold, understated and youthful, making her resemble an innocent schoolgirl.
"Where are you heading, girlie?"
The drunkard blocked her way, so Suizi turned and headed towards the ladies’ toilet, thinking it would be safe inside, but the other drunkard circled to the front.
The two men, one in front and one behind, had blocked Suizi’s path.
"Move aside!" Suizi rebuked.
The toilet was on the second floor, and Yu Jingting was in a private room on the first floor. There weren’t many people around on the second floor, and she reckoned that nobody would hear her even if she screamed.
Her eyes caught sight of a vase in the hallway that, coincidentally, was nearly the same color as her top. If it was real, it would be quite valuable.
Suizi figured that anything displayed here couldn’t be genuine, and she quietly moved towards the vase.
When the two drunks heard her speak up, they made a disgusting show of having trouble standing, leaning against the wall and licking their lips as they said:
"You’re so pretty, and your voice is so soft. Have a drink with us, brothers, we’ll take ’good’ care of you."
Suizi’s hand reached for the porcelain vase, but before she could throw it, she heard a lazy female voice from the front:
"Picking on women gets you high, doesn’t it? If you want to drink, I’ll join you."
The two drunks turned around and saw a tall woman standing behind them, with a good figure and a slim waist, her mouth curved in an indifferent smile.
"Another girl, huh — a bit tall, but quite proactive!"
Seeing that it was Jinnan, Suizi felt much more at ease and let go of the porcelain vase she was holding.
She also wanted to witness just how powerful the woman who almost got the title of Marshal of the Asia-Pacific Region according to her father-in-law truly was.
"I can be even more proactive," Jinnan coaxed, curling her finger, and the two clueless drunks leaned towards her.
The one in the front, eager for a quick taste of Fang Ze, lunged forward with open arms, but before he could even get close to the hem of Jinnan’s clothes, she kicked him away.
Suizi swiftly dodged, avoiding the heap that flew her way. A moment later, and it would have landed on her—it was a close call.
Seeing his companion kicked away, the other drunk’s anger flared instead of fleeing.
"You stinking woman, too good for us?"
The man on the ground was grunting in pain.
"Bro, let’s just drop it, I think this woman is a bit ominous."
Jinnan nodded.
"I made a new friend today and I’m in a good mood, so if you don’t want to die, start walking."
After speaking, she turned to Suizi and smiled. Suizi gave her a thumbs-up in response.
The drunkard who was standing still hadn’t realized who he had provoked and pointed at Jinnan while cursing:
"Is she not just a woman? What are you afraid of! Watch how I—ah!"
Hearing him say "Is she not just a woman", Suizi instantly stood upright.
She remembered her father-in-law’s admonition.
In front of Jinnan, one must never utter those words.
Indeed, after the drunkard said those words, Jinnan, who had appeared indifferent, curled her lips into a cold smirk. Suizi didn’t even see her move when the drunkard, who had been so arrogant just a second ago, was already on the ground.
He clutched his thigh, wailing miserably.
A throwing knife had made a shallow puncture in his leg, and blood streamed down the pant leg.
"I only used ten percent of my strength and won’t cripple your leg. You should be grateful that I showed restraint for my sisters’ sake and didn’t act personally," she said.
Suizi knew her words were no boast but the plain truth.
According to her father-in-law’s introduction, Jinnan practiced hard qigong, capable of splitting bricks and shattering marble with her fingers. Had she chosen to be harsh, a mere puncture wound would have been the least of the drunkard’s worries—it was purely a lesson.
Jinnan stood with her hands clasped behind her, her sturdy stature resembling a resilient pine that no storm could topple, a true mighty force who would never take two petty thieves seriously.
Yu Jingting, leading the children, arrived just in time to witness the scene.
From the positions and stance of Jinnan and Suizi and the two drunkards lying on the ground, it wasn’t hard to guess what had happened.
Clearly, his wife had been saved by Jinnan once again.
With her back to Yu Jingting, Jinnan didn’t look around, yet she seemed to know it was him and said with a merry chuckle:
"Sorry for stealing your thunder as the gallant guardian again."
Throughout the meal, she had been teasing Yu Jingting, finding his jealousy amusing.
Based on her understanding of Yu Jingting, even an extra glance from him at Suizi could stir his envy. Surely her heroic rescue would make him fret more, she thought?
But it didn’t.
Yu Jingting simply approached, silently gave the two drunkards a couple of kicks, and if Suizi hadn’t stopped him in time, he might have unbuckled his belt, opened the floodgates, and used urine to rouse these liquor-crazed fools.
By now, the two drunkards had sobered up, begging desperately for mercy. Suizi, in fear of a fatal altercation, told them to leave quickly.
Yu Jingting gave a salute towards Jinnan.
"Thank you for saving my wife. Come, let me offer you a toast," he said.
This response made Jinnan raise an eyebrow.
"Not jealous anymore?"
Upon hearing this, Suizi felt something was amiss and fell deep into thought.
However, Yu Jingting laughed heartily and said, "I may not be the most generous man, but I understand right from wrong. Saving my wife makes you my friend. This toast is indeed a token of my respect for you."
According to the rules of Jianghu, in such a situation, once Yu Jingting offered a toast and Jinnan drank, they would be sworn brothers.
This sequence of seemingly ordinary conversation was in fact laden with deep meaning.
Suizi caught on.
Jinnan had made it clear that she knew Suizi and her husband were aware of her identity and background.
It was known in the Jianghu that Jinnan was, supposedly, not fond of men.
At that moment, Suizi felt somewhat guilty. Compared to Jinnan’s frank camaraderie, she realized she might have overthought things.
Yu Jingting had already exchanged a covert sign with Jinnan, indicating a readiness to become brothers. Both bearing the chivalrous spirit of the Jianghu, it was perfectly normal for them to form a brotherhood as long as they didn’t vie for the same woman.
With this realization, Suizi also made up her mind.
