I am chasing a rough man in the 80s
Chapter 805 It’s Up to You Now

Chapter 805: Chapter 805 It’s Up to You Now

The driver’s misplaced sense of justice was frightened into submission by Yu Jingting’s fists.

He hurriedly helped the old lady into the car and sped away from the scene.

Yu Jingting snorted, "That’s it?"

"Dad, you don’t think she’ll really report us, do you?" Suizi asked after returning to the room.

Suizi wasn’t too sure herself; normal people simply wouldn’t do such a thing, but Fan Huang’s mother was far from normal.

Pampered like a princess all her life, she couldn’t bear to hear a discordant voice in her old age, relishing the adulation of being the center of attention, easily hooked by a few provocative words from others.

Sometimes Suizi envied that lifelong infantility of never having to grow up.

With all the worries she had, she couldn’t enjoy such treatment.

"Let her be." Fan Huang replied indifferently—really indifferently, as if he had let go of everything.

"Should we tell her about my pregnancy?" Chen Lijun asked on purpose.

Suizi’s mouth twitched; her acting was clumsy enough, but her mother’s was even worse.

She didn’t for a second believe her mother was that compassionate. This was just a show of false virtue for her father to hear.

If her father really took her mother’s words to heart and gave Granny a way out, Suizi bet her mother would flip the roof.

"Why would you bother with her if she doesn’t like you?" Fan Huang gave Chen Lijun a meaningful look.

Suizi read clear understanding in her father’s eyes.

In fact, her father had probably seen through everything a long time ago.

He just chose not to spell it out, a true mark of love.

"Whoa, what’s the chatter here?" Yu Jingting entered the room with a chuckle from outside.

"Why the act? We all heard that loud voice of yours inside the house." Chen Lijun said, laughing as she called out her son-in-law.

"Hey, I was just testing the hearing of you four elders. Really not bad, sharp as ever."

Wang Cuihua pushed him lightly; the kid’s mouth was just too glib.

"Our family’s elders are in their prime; how could their hearing be failing? You’re really something..." Suizi shook her head too.

But she had to admit, the way Yu Jingting shouted about delivering packages, she found it quite amusing from inside the house.

Who could resist a man brimming with humor?

"Jingting’s back?" Fan Xi’s mom walked in from the back door of the Courtyard, feigning surprise.

"Big brother and sister-in-law are here too? I was lured away by the cucumbers growing in the backyard and didn’t even notice when you all came back, how rude of me."

Suizi and her husband exchanged glances, Yu Jingting asking with his eyes, why is she here?

Suizi shrugged her shoulders; she’s here for the smell of money, obviously.

Fan Xi definitely inherited his cunning nature from his mother.

She stayed inside the whole time, watching Fan Huang’s mother and Chen Lijun cause a scene, then tactically retreated to the backyard, only emerging when the battle seemed over.

This was her way of not wanting to offend anyone.

"Big sister-in-law is showing now, time really flies. Look at how pointy that belly is, definitely going to add a chubby little boy." Fan Xi’s mom said warmly.

Fan Xi’s family was one of the first to guess Chen Lijun was pregnant, promptly sending gifts to curry favor—a family with eyes everywhere.

Suizi could only lament, if only some of those calculating thoughts could be shared with Granny.

"Boy or girl, they’re all the same. Old Fan is hoping for a maiden." Chen Lijun replied politely.

Fan Xi’s mom sensed her flattery had missed its mark and quickly shifted the topic to pregnancy tips.

Fan Huang, who had been silent up to this point, finally took an interest and started chatting with Fan Xi’s mom.

Yu Jingting and Suizi escaped to the Courtyard for a breath of fresh air, overhearing the lively motherly advice inside, prompting Suizi to roll her eyes.

"She really knows how to cater to people’s tastes."

"Being adept at social maneuvering isn’t necessarily a bad thing."

Yu Jingting was noncommittal; his hiring standards were not as high as Suizi’s moral ones. As long as someone remained within his control, he could tolerate a little extra cunning.

"As a leader, you need to establish a clear bottom line. The lower the bottom line, the higher the margin for error, and the greater the tasks you can handle. I understand that principle. But when it comes to people I dislike, I really hate schmoozing," he said.

Suizi pouted; she felt she might remain like this for life—changing one’s personality is a tall order.

"Do as you wish and don’t accommodate anyone else. Don’t I still handle things outside?" Yu Jingting said as he playfully tweaked her nose.

Everyone has their strengths, and his were no exception to hers. Thus, as a couple complementing each other, doing what they each enjoyed, all it took was cooperation to keep the home afloat.

"Mhm." Suizi was cheered up by his coaxing, and the two of them sat together, chattering about this and that.

"In this heat, you two sticking together like glue—are you not afraid of getting heat rash?"

The voice of Chen Lijun came from behind them. Suizi, feeling guilty, tried to move away, but Yu Jingting restrained her by the shoulders, not letting her go. They were enjoying being close; after all, it wasn’t as if the mother-in-law had never seen it.

Chen Lijun rolled her eyes.

"You two are about to give me pregnancy symptoms with your coddling."

"Why don’t you just stay inside and listen?" Suizi tried to change the subject.

"Your dad is being obsessive, I don’t want to listen to that," Lijun retorted.

Fan Huang was earnestly learning from the others.

When it came to taking care of pregnant women, he was truly dedicated.

As long as it involved discussing precautions for the pregnancy, even with people he disliked, he could chat effusively.

Chen Lijun, frustrated by the constant nagging, came out for some fresh air, only to be annoyed again by the sight of the overly affectionate couple.

"Mom, when you were as pregnant as me, did you ever sit on the grain pile with dad to watch the stars?" Suizi knowingly stirred the pot.

Chen Lijun became even more upset.

She had never officially had a romantic relationship with Fan Huang; how could she have indulged in such a thing?

Suizi, the cheeky girl, was definitely asking this on purpose just to get on her nerves.

"We were very mature men and women; how could we possibly be interested in playing house like children?"

"Actually, it’s quite nice. The sky full of stars is the same, but because the person beside you is different, so are the feelings when watching the stars. Jingting and I sometimes do it, and although we’ve done it many times, it feels different every time," Suizi shared.

This was no longer a subtle display of affection; it was like smearing Chen Lijun’s face with a ton of bragging. Hence, the pregnant lady, adhering to her principle of ’if I’m not happy, nobody can be,’ wiped her face and coldly asked:

"What about my scarf?"

Suizi and Yu Jingting both felt guilty.

"As you saw, it was grandma who ruined it; it had nothing to do with me," she explained.

"Yeah, it was all grandma’s fault," Yu Jingting interjected to help.

Chen Lijun scoffed.

"Heh, you two think I’m a fool?"

Even if she didn’t understand at first, she would figure it out after a while. How could an out-of-season item from her house have ended up with Suizi and then coincidentally get dirtied by the old lady?

"You want spicy crab tonight, right? Give me a plate," Chen Lijun demanded in a threatening tone, but kept her voice down while warily eyeing the house.

Fearing that the loquacious old man might appear suddenly.

Suizi gasped.

"Another plate? If I give you one, my dad will disown me!"

"Then just one, it’s settled," Chen Lijun quickly decided before her daughter could refuse, and put on her cold façade, "And don’t think I’ve forgotten about the scarf!"

Suizi couldn’t help but laugh and cry.

Had the pregnant lady become so childish after conceiving?

If she really made it for her, her dad would kick both her and Jingting into the river to feed the crabs. This was going to be a tough problem to solve...

Suizi gave Yu Jingting a look. It was up to him now!
