Chapter 80: Chapter 80: Stricken to Death (Thanks to Rifle Bullet+Update)
"Sister-in-law, what happened?" Jiaojiao asked.
"Check this out."
Suizi asked Jiaojiao to stand on a stool, so she could better observe the construction behind the mirror frame.
"What’s this?"
Jiaojiao saw two long items taped to both sides of the mirror frame.
They were black, with a red wire, which looked somewhat familiar?
"Isn’t this the taser my brother uses, made from a lighter?!"
Once a disposable lighter is used up, the igniter above can be removed, slightly modified, and made into a taser.
It gives a tingling shock, which hurts a bit.
It won’t kill, but it can startle someone.
Upon closer inspection, it wasn’t exactly a taser. Suizi had made some modifications. If anyone touched the mirror frame, they would get shocked.
"The voltage generated by a lighter can break through 5-10 millimeters of air and does not cause substantial harm to the human body."
"???" Jiaojiao was utterly confused.
"The principle of the igniter is that it works on the principle of capacitance between piezoelectric ceramics and the metal nozzle, so if we make a connection like this—"
"Stop, Stop, Stop!" Jiaojiao raised her hand in surrender, not understanding a word.
"So, sister-in-law, you just played a trick and scared my grandma away?"
"That’s the power of science." Suizi lovingly patted her head, her eyes filled with the loving care of a homeroom teacher, "If you learn physics and chemistry well, you’ll be fearless no matter where you go."
Jiaojiao was dumbstruck. Then looking at the mirror frame and her lovely sister-in-law, admiration rose spontaneously within her.
Suizi seized the opportunity to give the child a thorough education.
"The future society needs people with high-tech knowledge. Even if you want to stay in the village as a shaman, you need to keep up with the times. Without proper education, you won’t be convincing as a shaman. All these tricks like chopsticks standing upright in our mother’s bowl can be explained by science."
Jiaojiao nodded vigorously, suddenly feeling that she should finish her homework for the day.
Her grandma has been domineering for so many years. Suizi was the second person to scare the old lady, after Yu Jingting.
Just for that, Jiaojiao’s admiration for Suizi was like a surging river.
Knowledge is power, this sentence took root and sprouted in the young girl’s heart.
Wang Cuihua came back ten minutes later and asked as soon as she entered the door.
"Did your grandma come? Is the money still there?"
She ran into the old lady at the village entrance, who was hurrying as if being chased by a ghost, not even stopping to greet her.
Wang Cuihua was worried that her mother-in-law had taken the money at home, so she hurried back.
"The money is here, and so is the rabbit." Jiaojiao said with a grin.
Wang Cuihua marveled. This old lady never visits empty-handed when Yu Jingting isn’t home. It was quite unusual today.
Jiaojiao exaggerated the story of how the old lady was scared away by Suizi’s "power of science," and Wang Cuihua listened in astonishment.
It seems that all this studying wasn’t for nothing. She could even tame the old lady who’s been unreasonable for decades.
Suizi was preoccupied, not even caring about chatting with her mother-in-law.
Standing by the door, she looked at the courtyard gate through the glass.
It was getting dark, and he hadn’t returned yet.
The snow was falling harder, it was nightfall, and the streets were deserted.
They were having stewed rabbit for dinner, but Suizi had no appetite.
"You’ll get used to it. That little rascal often disappears and doesn’t show up for a night or two. He’ll be fine," Wang Cuihua said, trying to comfort her.
Since marrying Suizi, Yu Jingting had never stayed out overnight. It was the first time he had come home so late.
Wang Cuihua put a piece of meat into Suizi’s bowl and advised,
"When he comes back, don’t hesitate and start hitting him with a broom, lock him out, beat him until he learns his lesson. If he climbs in through the window, have him kneel on a washboard..."
"Sister-in-law, why don’t you electrocute my brother?"
Jiaojiao’s memory of Suizi electrocuting the old lady was still fresh in her mind; she couldn’t stop laughing while imagining her brother getting electrocuted and bouncing high in the air.
Suizi bit her lip, she could sense the goodwill towards her from her mother-in-law and sister-in-law.
She stayed silent for quite a while, long enough for Wang Cuihua to worry if the girl was about to cry. She was about to comfort her when Suizi lifted her head.
"As long as he comes back safe, I am fine. I’m afraid that there might be risks."
The room fell silent, Wang Cuihua was speechless.
In this family where everyone was hot-headed, the sudden arrival of this angelic girl was softly disarming, leaving Wang Cuihua flustered.
"That boy is like a cockroach, I can’t kill him, what are you afraid of?"
"That’s right sister-in-law, you should be afraid that once my brother is let out, everybody else might be in danger."
This mother and daughter thought Suizi was too kind-hearted.
What was there to worry about with Yu Tiegen, who was such a ruffian?
"The snow is so heavy, and the night is so dark. I can’t rest easy until he comes back," Suizi told her mother-in-law, "After dinner, I’m going to wait for him at the entrance of the village. If he doesn’t come back, then I won’t come back."
Wang Cuihua opened and closed her mouth a couple of times.
The light reflected off Suizi, casting a halo around her that projected both gentleness and a force that couldn’t be refuted.
"My, my, this is the power of gentleness wound into a blade," Wang Cuihua watched as Suizi put on her coat and left the house. It took her a while to come up with this phrase.
Suizi going out to wait for Jingting late at night was even more effective than beating him up.
Just this once was enough to hold her ruffian son in check.
"Mother, what are you saying?" Jiaojiao didn’t understand.
"You need to learn from your sister-in-law. This is a true woman... How come I feel like she’s even more capable than her mother?"
Wang Cuihua stared in the direction of the door, talking to herself.
The snow continued to fall. Despite wrapping her coat tightly around herself, cold wind still managed to seep in through the collar.
There was quite a bit of accumulated snow on the ground. With each step, she sank deeply into the snow.
The flash of her flashlight danced upon the snow, casting a soft glow.
The small village felt as though it was frozen in time; while Suizi was slowly walking in the snow, it seemed as if she was the only person in all creation.
When Yu Jingting, with his massive bag, came walking towards her from afar, he saw that beam of light.
Wondering which idiot wasn’t warming up beside the hearth on a snowy day, he walked closer and was flabbergasted when he saw who it was, outraged even.
Wasn’t this his pregnant wife?
"Stay where you are!"
Hearing this familiar roar, Suizi’s eyes curved upwards in a smile.
It was him.
Yu Jingting rushed towards her. But before Suizi could greet him, the roar came crashing down on her again.
"What the hell are you doing out here?"
"Looking for you."
Her voice still soft and mellow, yet it took away half of the man’s anger.
"Didn’t I tell the Yang brothers to keep you home and wait for me? Are you refusing to listen? If you don’t start behaving, I’m going to break your legs!"
He reached out and touched her face; it was still warm, indicating that she hadn’t been waiting for long. This fact made his heart ease a little.
Thinking he was ferocious enough to intimidate her, he didn’t expect to meet a woman whose stubbornness was even scarier.
"Even if you break my legs, I’d crawl here to wait for you."
"... Damn!"
Yu Jingting was blown away.
He suddenly understood the phrases "thrashing a river only increases its flow" and "the soft overcomes the hard".
The first tough guy in Wang’s Family, was completely dominated by his delicate wife!
