I am chasing a rough man in the 80s -
Chapter 794: What Needs to Be Let Go, Must Be Let Go
Chapter 794: Chapter 794: What Needs to Be Let Go, Must Be Let Go
Liu Yanan spent the night fretting over Suizi’s marital cold war, losing sleep over it.
The next day, she decided to play the peacemaker, wanting to speak to Yu Jingting about Suizi’s virtues, hoping to help the couple reconcile.
But at breakfast, she saw Yu Jingting and his wife being all lovey-dovey.
"Eat more, you’ve become so thin." Yu Jingting spooned some food onto Suizi’s plate, freeing up a hand to pinch her cheek.
"And what about you? You have lost so much muscle on your arms." Suizi peeled an egg for him.
"I was busy with company matters lately, didn’t have time for basketball or any exercise – yet aren’t I still able to easily lift you with one hand?" He raised an eyebrow at her.
Suizi immediately thought of the previous night in the shower, how he had lifted her single-handedly against the wall, in an unfathomably erotic manner...
"Ahem, don’t talk while eating."
Liu Yanan was left speechless watching the couple’s interactions.
"So, you two have made up?"
"We didn’t fight to begin with, so where’s the need to make up? Isn’t that right, wife?"
Lost in the memory of him lifting her single-handedly, Suizi’s face flushed with a series of colors. All she could do was nod randomly.
"Aunt Liu, you’ll get used to it. They are always like this." Luoluo comforted Liu Yanan like a little adult, pointing out that she and her brother are used to their parents’ behavior, never needing their parents to help with food during meals.
"Ahahaha..." Liu Yanan’s laughter was a mix of awkward and genuine joy. She couldn’t figure out why she was so happy seeing this young couple behaving so affectionately.
Many years later, when the term "ship" became popular, Liu Yanan realized that her feelings back then were simply having joy in ’shipping’ a couple.
Suizi and her husband were truly worth shipping. Even during their cold wars, there was a sense of intimacy, and when they reconciled, they acted as one.
"Lijun just came by, asking the two of you to attend a banquet on her behalf." Wang Cuihua said.
"Let Jingting go. I want to stay home to read up on my research."
Suizi is currently in her research year zero, and she plans to read some literature relevant to her tutor’s area of research during the holidays, so she could get a head start when she joins the group.
"Don’t read anymore, come along with me." Yu Jingting said.
"Huh?" Suizi looked at him. She knew he wouldn’t make such a request without reason. Could there be some hidden agenda?
"Just come along. I want to show you how awesome your man can be." Yu Jingting winked at her.
Chen Lijun, now visibly pregnant, had been always lazy. Now, using her pregnancy as an excuse, she delegated all her social obligations to her daughter and son-in-law.
Every month, Suizi and Yu Jingting took turns attending functions on her and Fan Huang’s behalf.
Suizi thought for a moment. The birthday celebrant this time was Auntie Chen from the Chen’s family, who wasn’t very close to Chen Lijun. Under normal circumstances, Yu Jingting wouldn’t need to drag her along. If the main guest of the banquet isn’t someone significant, then there must be some notable attendees at the birthday banquet.
Suizi went to the banquet with Yu Jingting out of curiosity, only to realize what he had up his sleeve upon their arrival.
"Suizi, Jingting, over here!" Chen He warmly beckoned them.
Tongtong was sitting beside him.
Upon seeing Tongtong, Suizi immediately understood.
In the past few days, due to her amnesia, she had pushed aside everything from her past life and almost forgotten about Tongtong.
Before she lost her memory, Suizi was worried about Tongtong’s insistence on joining the biology interest group. Yu Jingting had told her to leave the matter to him.
So, did he bring her here for Tongtong?
As Suizi looked at Yu Jingting, he smirked. Seeing his expression, she felt a strange sense of reassurance.
His expression told her - everything was under control.
Tongtong was delighted to see Suizi, but when his gaze fell on Yu Jingting by her side, he visibly shrank back.
Yu Jingting had become the nightmare of Tongtong’s childhood, topping his list of fears.
Suizi noticed that Tongtong only felt uncomfortable for a moment before quickly adjusting.
The...erm...negotiations she and Yu Jingting held in the bathroom last night had quite a good effect.
All of a sudden, she felt that everything of her past life was far away, both the grudges and the gratitude. Eventually, she needed to let go of these things.
Once her mind settled down, she also relaxed. She naturally asked about Tongtong’s recent studies.
"Have you finished your homework? Have your end-term exam results been released? Have you signed up for any interest groups?"
With three consecutive serious questions, Tongtong’s small face fell.
"I ranked first in the exams. As for homework...homework..."
"Don’t wait until the end of the holiday to catch up on your homework. Good children shouldn’t do that." Seeing Tongtong mumbling with his head lowered, Suizi felt a strange sense of satisfaction familiar to parents.
"I understand..." Tongtong hunched his shoulders, looking pitiful.
"Tongtong has been having a hard time lately. He has to run several hours every day for his interest class. When he comes home, he falls straight asleep and doesn’t have time for his academic work."
"Oh? What kind of interest class requires several hours of running?" Suizi’s eyes twinkled.
"Football. It is currently my son’s wish to play football well. He hopes to join the provincial team when he grows up and help football to shine on the international stage."
"Eh? You got to be kidding me!"
Suizi was stunned.
Moving from aspiring biologist to footballer? That’s a huge change, right?
And why choose such a challenging sport? It would have been more feasible with table tennis. Choosing football – well, at least all the running should ensure he grows taller.
In a matter of seconds, Suizi’s emotions had been on a roller coaster ride. She took a few sips of her drink to conceal her reactions, and out of the corner of her eye, she saw Yu Jingting trying to hold back his laughter.
This should be Yu Jingting’s doing then. The question is, how did he do it?
"Didn’t Tongtong want to preserve specimens and join the biology interest group before?" Suizi asked.
"He attended a few times, but the workload was too heavy. Our relative didn’t seem to get along well with him, she gave him a lot of work compared to other children. Tongtong felt frustrated and didn’t want to go anymore."
Yu Jingting ended up intervening, sending Tongtong to the football team. The football team was already full, it’s hard for ordinary kids to get in. Yu Jingting had to pull strings and bribed the coach with two taels of shark’s fin to get Tongtong a spot.
"Is the kid interested in it?" Suizi asked.
In her memory, Tongtong was a quiet child who preferred quiet activities. This dopamine-generating sport didn’t seem to be something he would like.
"At first, he didn’t want to go. But because the coach valued him and complimented him, he started enjoying it."
Under the table, Suizi held Yu Jingting’s hand and drew several circles in his palm - a way to express ’You’re awesome.’
Yu Jingting smirked triumphantly, having learned from professionals.
In order to help Suizi overcome her mental demon, he had consulted a teacher with many years of experience. He knew what strategies to use to raise a child, and he proceeded to do the opposite to annihilate Tongtong’s interest.
He burdened him with a large amount of homework, continuously criticized him, and pointed out his faults to suppress his enthusiasm. After going through this, even a gifted child would get frustrated.
Yu Jingting even felt that if Einstein and Newton had met him in their early stages, they wouldn’t have turned out as famous as they are now.
