Chapter 771: Getting into a Good Place
Chapter 771: Chapter 771: Getting into a Good Place
"...and that’s how it happened," Yu Jingting explained to Yu Shuisheng about Suizi’s memory loss.
Yu Shuisheng only needed a few minutes with Suizi to realize that something was off. After hearing the whole story from Jingting, he frowned.
"So, your wife lost her memory, and all you did was... nothing of consequence?"
"I’ve been trying my best to help her."
Seeing the handprint on his son’s face, Shuisheng knew that Jingting had once again messed up.
"Actions that don’t yield results are meaningless. Have you ever considered using this opportunity to do something meaningful?"
"What?"
"Are you really that clueless? Are you my son? Is all your intelligence located below the belt? Take her on a date!"
Shuisheng bombarded his son with a trio of rhetorical questions, leaving Jingting stunned.
"A date? Would she even go out with me? She reacts to me like a mouse to a cat."
He’d thought about taking his wife out for a stroll, but was Suizi really up for that?
"Why not take Jiaojiao and the kids along? She might let her guard down and actually enjoy herself then... Wait, what’s with that look?"
Disapproval was written all over Shuisheng’s face.
Both father and son had married the two most beautiful women of the Wang Family’s generation. But Shuisheng believed his brother had won Huahua by sheer luck and capability, while Jingting had just lucked out.
"It’s a wonder Suizi could stand you when she had her memory. Did you swallow all your education? Do you understand romance? Do you get it?"
"..." Was "romance" something edible or could it give his wife an extra few dollars?
Jingting scoffed at his father’s fanciful notions. Then it occurred to him--
Before Chen Lijun’s wedding, Suizi had been busy arranging firework shows and decorating with balloons.
The result wasn’t ideal, but Suizi kept murmuring the word "romance".
Could it be that she secretly cared for such things?
Maybe she had just hidden it after becoming a mother...
This made Jingting’s light-hearted expression turn serious.
"Dad, can you explain this ’romance’ thing?"
"Tsk, you only call me ’dad’ when you want something and ’old man’ when you don’t? You ungrateful... Never mind, for my daughter-in-law’s sake, I’ll give you some advice."
As Shuisheng unfolded his tips for romance, Jingting’s brows furrowed even more.
"This all sounds silly. Can it really work? My wife may have lost her memory, but she’s no fool."
Jingting looked towards the house where Suizi was doing the accounts again.
In the beginning, she had cried out that she couldn’t do it. But now, she gradually got better at it, proving that her intelligence hadn’t decreased. A smart woman’s intelligence wouldn’t change even if she reverted back to being seventeen.
"Why not give it a try to find out? Even if it doesn’t work, can’t do any worse than a couple of slaps to the face.. huh, I should’ve recorded it. I could show it to my grandson when he’s older and tell him not to be as foolish as his father."
While the father and son were engrossed in their conversation, a car pulled up outside. The passengers rushed straight for Jingting as soon as they got out.
"Jingting! You have to help us with this!" A person cried out before they even entered the yard.
Seeing unfamiliar faces, Shuisheng asked Jingting,
"Who are they?"
"They’re the relatives of my mother-in-law’s mum. My wife has driven them to the brink. They’re here to plead for mercy."
These were people from Fan Huang’s maternal family.
They’d seen Jingting prosper from his roller-skating rink and wanted to get rich too.
Suizi had schemed and gotten Chen He to pose as a business partner in order to lure them into the trap.
They fell for it and after seeing the profits from the first week, they weren’t satisfied sharing them with major shareholder Chen He and insisted on splitting the business.
They had no idea that Chen He was merely a figurehead, and the real investors were Jingting and Suizi.
Suizi had planned this fishing expedition so that once they forced Chen He to fold, she could begin working with all departments to investigate the roller-skating rink.
The roller skating rink that Suizi ran was indeed filled with song and dance at night and it seemed to be flourishing, but all this was a victory scheme created by Suizi.
To open the roller-skating rink, Suizi had done extensive legal research, obtained all required licenses and permits.
Even the snacks sold there were certified by the food-related department -- everything was in order and nobody could find any issues.
Even the supervising department was amazed by Suizi’s proactive approach to certification, as a lot of stalls work without proper papers.
All these certificates were obtained under the guidance of Fan Huang, ensuring that her facility could continue operating no matter how many rounds of inspection were conducted.
But the roller-skating rink this Chen He was involved with, wasn’t as above board.
They had no certifications and the Mei family didn’t seem aware they needed them. They assumed as long as they had a place and equipment and a bit of promotion, they could make money.
As a result, almost as soon as they opened, Chen He began reporting them to various departments. It had been one complaint after another, and since opening they hadn’t had a moment of peace.
The customers stopped coming and once the word got out that the place was frequently inspected, no one wanted to hang out there. The roller-skating rink was losing money daily and could not continue.
The Mei family’s biggest backer was Fan Huang’s birth mother. But she couldn’t be reached now as she was in hiding due to another one of Suizi’s schemes.
Seeing their investments going down the drain and knowing continuing would lead to losing even more money, they couldn’t sit still any longer.
They went to Chen He and tried to get him to take back his shares, but Chen He, following Suizi’s plan, referred them to Jingting. This was to finally show the Mei family who they were dealing with.
All of this was carried out under Suizi’s manipulation. The only thing she didn’t account for was her own memory loss at the climax of the Mei family’s downfall.
According to the original plan, Jingting was supposed to knock them around a bit and bring up past grudges between the Mei family and Fan Huang. When Fan Huang returned, she and her family would break ties.
This was to sever Fan Huang’s support once and for all, ensuring she wouldn’t be able to cause any more trouble.
But with Suizi’s memory loss, Jingting was in no mood to deal with the Mei family. He brushed them off this time but figured they’d be back in a few days. When he was feeling up to it, he would continue with the original plan.
Suizi was engrossed in doing the accounts. Just when she was starting to enjoy it, a hand slapped onto her ledger, snapping it shut.
"What are you doing?" Suizi asked, a hint of grievance in her voice.
"You only need to check the accounts briefly to get the hang of it. Your brain hasn’t completely recovered yet, focusing on this for too long will give you a headache."
"But I promised to do it," Suizi argued.
"You can continue later. Now come with me."
"Where?"
"We’re going on a date." He said with a hint of pride.
