"When you go out, just do as I’ve told you..."

Suizi silently mouthed curses at him, vowing to make Yu Jingting gain twenty pounds, enough to form a beer belly if he ever dragged her out on such a wild excursion again.

"The two of you are unbearable, go outside in Courtyard and air yourselves out before coming back in."

Chen Lijun sprayed a generous amount of Floral Dew on the young couple, and, unable to stand the smell, kicked them out to the courtyard for some fresh air.

"Look at you, the epitome of a modern pregnant woman. I don’t need to worry about you feeling sick." Suizi remarked sarcastically while standing outside in the courtyard.

She figured that within the family, the most pampered was the baby. When Chen Lijun found out she was pregnant yesterday, her father began doting on her ceaselessly, even preparing her a bowl of special nourishing soup.

"No need for you two to come in here and make the room smell like Floral Dew, it makes me want to throw up."

Chen Lijun ordered Yu Jingting to move the table and Suizi to collect their plates from the kitchen.

She sat there like a queen, not lifting a finger.

She had been lazy before the pregnancy, now being pregnant made her even more laid-back. She had effectively become a protected species, with the rest of the family revolving around her needs.

Asking Suizi and Yu Jingting to come over was due to the soup being too much for the family to finish alone. The remaining was saved for the young couple to clear up.

The leftovers were assigned to Suizi and her husband. Chen Lijun said that once the kids were back from school in the afternoon, she’d cook them something separately.

The mood of Fan Huang, Chen Lijun’s dad, was extraordinarily good thereafter. He took care of all the work in the morning and left the afternoon free to cook for his daughter-in-law.

" Dad not only bears with her, he seems to enjoy it. Last night, when we returned home, the lights in the study were still on at the ungodly hour of 1 am." Yu Jingting added.

"He couldn’t sleep and ended up penning a slew of calligraphy works, which are now on display in the study. Feel free to take whichever pieces you want."

At the thought of Fan Huang’s joyful expression, Chen Lijun was amused. The last time he showed such delight was when he learned that Suizi was his daughter.

"What did he write?" Suizi asked curiously.

"An old horse may lose its speed but never its spirit, with high aspirations?" Yu Jingting made a mischievous grin, "He certainly couldn’t have written ’late blooming flower,’ right?"

"Why couldn’t it be ’a new pearl in an old shell’?" Suizi then hid behind Yu Jingting, gloating.

With a look of indignation, Chen Lijun picked up a handful of shelled peanuts and threw them at Yu Jingting.

Yu Jingting caught one, peeled it and fed it to Suizi.

"For your cheeky remarks, don’t bother coming for dinner tonight. Even leftovers will not be given."

"Oh, Mom, we apologize! Please give us a morsel of food for earning our keep yesterday."

Yu Shuisheng and Wang Cuihua had left to play, leaving Suizi without the zeal to even buy veggies. There was no comparison between her father’s cooking and any common meal. Scrounging around Suizi’s house meant a gain for her and Yu Jingting.

Not only did they eat, but they also brought along their three children. It was a grand dinner at their expense.

"By the way, what’s the situation with your grandfather?" Yu Jingting asked.

"The old man is hiding out at school, scared to come home. The old lady is wandering around, borrowing money. I’ve warned all the relatives not to lend her any money. These two need to learn a lesson."

Thinking about the chaos at home, Chen Lijun felt a sense of satisfaction, even Suizi seemed far more pleasing to her now.

"You, young lady, did a fine job with this."

Suizi had planned to teach Chen Bin a lesson. She set him up.

She had Ge Mingyue pretend to be pregnant: first to frighten the old lady, then to con the bald-headed man at school.

The goal was to instill a sense of responsibility in the two old folks.

As for the old man, a one-time scare would suffice, so long as he refrains from fooling around in the future.

With the old lady, it was an attempt to make her more vigilant and less susceptible to scams.

Suizi’s ruthless and indiscriminate approach clearly pleased Chen Lijun.

Following Suizi’s instructions, she asked the old lady for money, and the old man for commitment, causing such a ruckus that it nearly pushed the old man into depression, constantly popping pills to calm his nerves.

Suizi let Ge Mingyue torment them for a week, before disappearing for half a month.

Presumably, the Chen family have been constantly on edge during this period. This memory should be enough to last them a lifetime.
