I am chasing a rough man in the 80s
Chapter 693: Men Turn Bad When They Get Rich

Chapter 693: Chapter 693: Men Turn Bad When They Get Rich

"Ah, this--" Fan Huang was suddenly called upon, so he was taken aback.

Although he mentally supported his daughter’s resistance to feudal parental dictatorship, he dared not voice it out loud.

Under the overwhelming pressure from Chen Lijun, Fan Huang asked Jiaojiao.

"Did your sister-in-law ask you to pass on any messages?"

"Yes."

Jiaojiao pulled out a painkiller from her pocket and handed it to Fan Huang.

"My sister-in-law said she will always be your beloved daughter."

"..." Fan Huang’s mouth twitched. Quite a filial one she is, remembering to bring her dad painkillers.

"Jiaojiao, take Luoluo to wash his hands and eat. I’m going to lie down in the room for a while," said Chen Lijun calmly as she turned to go. The two little radishes, Luoluo and Bobo, intuitively sensed something was off with their grandma.

"Grandma is upset..." Luoluo pointed at Chen Lijun. This little girl is growing more and more like Yu Jingting. The quiet Bobo didn’t speak much, but his eyes were filled with worry.

"It’s okay, I’ll go check on her," Fan Huang reassured, soothingly rubbing the heads of his two grandsons. These sweet little darlings were growing more and more precious to him with each passing day.

Chen Lijun sat on the bed, wiping her tears. Seeing Fan Huang enter, she quickly covered her head with a pillow.

"Are you upset?" Fan Huang raised an eyebrow. He couldn’t recall the last time his wife cried. Apparently, something had upset her this time quite deeply.

"In your eyes, am I particularly hateful?" A muffled voice came from beneath the pillow where Chen Lijun hid.

"Absolutely not. Didn’t Suizi stand up for you against the old lady just last week?"

Suizi often clashed with Lijun, but she always defended her mother in public. Last week during a family dinner, the old lady was again making sour comments about how someone’s family had a son while her line would be cut off if she had no grandson. Her comments choked both Chen Lijun and Liu Xi, making them speechless.

Liu Xi had given birth to a daughter and was overjoyed. This pleased her but made Fan’s mother very anxious.

She herself was a proud mother of two sons. However, among the grandchildren, it seemed that the other families were breeding sons like rabbits, while her family only had three granddaughters, and even one of them behaved eccentrically....

Taking advantage of the family gathering, the old lady took every opportunity to remind Chen Lijun and Liu Xi of their shortcomings, aiming her comments at them in a strange and obscure way.

Chen Lijun didn’t take her seriously. Liu Xi was busy feeding her daughter while Suizi stood up to her.

Together with Yu Jingting, they fiercely countered the old lady until she was left short of breath. She didn’t dare to provoke these two ’ancestors’ though, as they held certain sway over her.

"That child has been stubborn since she was little, always getting her way. I didn’t stop her from pursuing her postgraduate studies. But what about Jingting? Can’t he get a decent job? Who am I doing all of this for? Isn’t it for her?!" Chen Lijun felt more and more upset as she thought about it.

"Don’t men always get lustful once they become wealthy? Isn’t it risky for a married couple to live separately for a long time? She is in an ivory tower at school, totally oblivious to how chaotic the outside world is now. If Jingting joins his father’s circle, who knows how many women will try to seduce him. When this unruly girl gets dumped someday and comes crying to me, I will not even open the door for her!"

In recent years, with economic liberalization and enterprise restructuring, there were numerous individual entrepreneurs. There was a significant decline in moral values compared to the previous years. A few years ago, dancing too closely with several men at once was likely to result in the offenders being harshly punished. Now, all these bosses who drank at bars had attractive secretaries by their side. The bosses hugged them with one arm while kissing another with the other.

Even in Chen Lijun’s workplace, there were a few young girls involved in unclear relationships with businessmen. This made Chen Lijun apprehensive of letting her son-in-law stray too far.

She wanted him to remain under the watchful eyes of her and Fan Huang. Even with all the temptations outside, he wouldn’t dare to misbehave, knowing people were aware of his ties to the Fan Family. Anyone attempting to lure him into debauchery would have to consider if they could handle the repercussions from Suizi’s maternal family.

Chen Lijun only considered what Suizi needed. And yet, Suizi and Yu Jingting always brushed her off. This hurt Chen Lijun more with each passing day and she felt anger bubbling up inside her, ready to explode.

"You’re just putting on a brave face. Let’s not talk about whether Jingting could do such things or not. If there comes a day when Suizi comes back crying, wouldn’t you be the first one to grab a knife and go out fighting for her?"

Fan Huang wiped her tears. He noticed that his wife had been unusually short-tempered and prone to crying these few days. This was quite at odds with her previously strong and assertive image, leaving Fan Huang at a loss about what to do.

"I couldn’t care less about that unruly girl. I just can’t stand her naivety! She knows absolutely nothing about the deceitful schemes of men!"

"Haven’t I been behaving well..." Fan Huang felt unjustly implicated. He had never made a misstep in his conduct.

"You’re feeling wronged?! I bet you want to join those old rascals in their debauchery too! You too dream of having women at your disposal?! If you don’t have such ideas, why would you defend your son-in-law? You actually want him to go out, make a fortune, surround himself with beautiful women, and maybe even experience what you missed out in your youth! Perhaps he’ll even lead you to a brothel while guarding the doorway for you!"

"..." The blame had now shifted to him and Fan Huang felt wronged.

"Wife, isn’t your imagination a bit too rich?" The idea of a son-in-law bringing his father-in-law to a brothel, how on earth did she come up with that?

"All you rotten men, the moment you get your hands on some money, you start learning bad habits. You’re no better than my father with his lack of respect." Chen Lijun’s grief resurfaced and she started wiping her tears again.

Fan Huang keyed in on the vital words: father-in-law, disrespectful.

He figured her father must’ve stirred up some trouble, upsetting his wife. Recognizing that Chen Lijun was in a vulnerable state, Fan Huang chose not to ask outright. Instead, he decided to look into it privately. For the moment, he needed to console Lijun.

"I believe our daughter knows what she’s doing. She doesn’t want to press Jingting down with her maternal family’s influence. Besides, after being with Jingting for so many years, don’t we know what kind of character he is? Wouldn’t it be a shame, to have lived all these years and yet be unable to accurately judge a young man?"

Fan Huang was very satisfied with his son-in-law. Among all their acquaintances, his own children were truly the most worry-free. His son-in-law may come across as frivolous, but he was actually very balanced, responsible, and ambitious.

"He’s good now, but once he enters a chaotic environment, who knows if he will be corrupted!"

"Grandma, can I come in?" Luoluo’s head popped around the corner.

Chen Lijun quickly wiped away her tears to revert to her normal self.

"Come, give grandma a hug."

Luoluo led Bobo into the room. The two little tykes rushed over like cannonballs and embraced Chen Lijun, showering her with sweet words. When Suizi left the kids with her, she knew these little ones had a knack for charming people, and indeed they did.

The irritation Chen Lijun had initially felt dissolved immediately at the sight of their adorable little faces.

"Do the two of you behave at the kindergarten?"

Bobo nodded and then shook his head.

"I don’t want to go anymore."

"Why?"

"Those kids are too dumb. They keep struggling with one single poem. It’s annoying." Bobo’s little face was filled with disdain.

"It’s not the kids who are dumb. You’re simply too smart. Even your mother wasn’t as smart as you when she was little." Chen Lijun recalled that her daughter also learned things quickly when she was little, but it seemed that her grandson was exceptionally gifted with a photographic memory.

"I don’t want to go to kindergarten anymore either," said Luoluo, pouting.

"What’s your reason?"

"They don’t prohibit hitting. The children cry all the time. It’s annoying."
