The two men exchanged a glance and the one in the backseat spoke.

"You don’t have the resources to negotiate terms with me." Suizi casually glanced at him, and the man felt a chill run down his spine.

When Suizi managed to stay calm, she resembled Fan Huang, especially when he was working, exuding an aura of quiet authority.

"Don’t be scared, it’s ok." Suizi helped Jiaojiao arrange her braids and gently rubbed the child’s scalp. One of the men had yanked Jiaojiao’s braids, and Suizi made a mental note of it.

"I saw them taking away Luoluo’s little elephant after school, so I followed them....."

Jiaojiao was walking home with a classmate when these two men approached her, asking if she was Yu Jiaojiao. When she asked them why they did that, the men showed her a rubber elephant saying they found a little girl who lost it. Thinking about her niece, Jiaojiao followed them into an alley where they forced her into a car.

Jiaojiao was regretful and felt like she had dragged her sister-in-law into this messy situation.

Suizi comforted Jiaojiao. The child hadn’t been frightened out of her wits, which showed her bravery. Therefore, Suizi couldn’t scold her.

"Hey, don’t paint us as the villains. We are just here because someone wants to meet you. You make it sound like we are kidnappers." The man driving was unhappy about her words and complained.

"If I were you guys. I would be deeply worried whether I should consider grazing sheep or cattle next. Have you heard about Fan Gao? Today, he could be your tomorrow."

Suizi’s words were too vivid, so the men were visibly startled.

Seeing the men’s reactions, Suizi felt more confident.

Now, she had to buy Yu Jingting as much time as possible. Persuading even one of them would be beneficial.

"You two are just carrying out orders, and I don’t want to make it hard for you. Leave yourself some leeway, you can never go wrong doing that. Don’t put all your eggs in one basket, don’t bet on single thing. Your backer might not be reliable, but if you don’t make things hard for us, I can certainly put in a good word in front of my father."

"We can’t let you go," the man sitting with Suizi in the backseat hesitated, then said.

Suizi detected room for negotiation in his voice, and she continued to persuade him.

"You don’t need to let us go. Do whatever you need to. My husband is a naive country bumpkin. He gets scared and worried quite easily. If I disappear, he will be anxious. You just need to somehow convey some information about me to him, to reassure him. I will remember your kindness."

"This... " The two men looked troubled.

Jiaojiao looked at Suizi, somewhat puzzled. Her brother... naive?

Suizi gave her a wink. Little white lies were necessary sometimes.

She was grateful. These two men were not professional kidnappers and were easy to trick. They didn’t seem to be malicious, probably just forced by their families. They also seemed not to want to offend her family, which made the situation better than she expected.

Jiaojiao was initially anxious. But seeing Suizi so composed made her heart steady. Suizi, always her idol, protected her like a mountain.

The two men spoke no further, while Suizi and Jiaojiao remained quiet. The car continued its journey out of the urban area, heading for the outskirts.

After more than two hours, they arrived at another city. Jiaojiao glimpsed an endless "lake" from the car window.
