I am chasing a rough man in the 80s -
Chapter 68: Her excellence is due to her scars
Chapter 68: Chapter 68: Her excellence is due to her scars
"There is a way, but—" Suizi lowered her head and bit her lip, "I need your help."
"Oh?" He raised an eyebrow.
Suizi beckoned him, and he willingly bent over, bringing his ear to her lips.
The hazy winter sunlight filtered evenly through the hoar frost onto both of them. Beside them, Jiaojiao watched in a daze.
The corner of her sister-in-law’s lips curled up as her brother tilted his ear to listen. The young Jiaojiao wasn’t quite sure how to describe this scene, she only felt that these two seemed perfectly matched.
It wasn’t until Jiaojiao had been deceived and tricked by Suizi into reading classical literary works, did she understand that the feeling of her brother and sister-in-law being together was exactly what was written in the books; a blissful union, a lifetime commitment.
Suizi believed her plan was highly efficient, but it hinged on one premise.
Yu Jingting had to trust her completely.
After she finished speaking, Suizi was unsure, nervously watching him.
Yu Jingting looked deeply into Suizi’s eyes, and Suizi’s heart sunk a little.
Had she not done enough these past few days to earn his trust?
During the first month after their marriage, she didn’t treat him well. Their relationship had only really improved these past few days. A bit of his hesitance toward her was normal...
Just as she was thinking this, she saw Yu Jingting slowly extend his hand and make a sign of "two" with his fingers.
Suizi: ???
"Recite two poems from the Tang dynasty before I agree to run an errand." Yu Jingting’s righteous stance caused Jiaojiao at his side to gasp.
Her brother is offering his help in exchange for learning?!
Suizi was speechless.
She thought he was worried that she was playing tricks and not dealing squarely with him, yet, after all this time, he wanted... this?
"I’m a principled man, I won’t accept any bargaining." He glanced maliciously at her chest.
Her mouth was a bit small, but— it’s okay, he had other methods.
"Deal." Suizi quickly agreed, fearing this shameless man might say anything indecent in front of a child.
Yu Jingting was quite satisfied, he went to run errands for his overly scheming wife.
Jiaojiao felt the adults had reached a mysterious consensus behind her back. She was about to protest when she saw Suizi gazing at Yu Jingting’s retreating back, in a daze.
Suizi felt conflicted.
Yu Jingting seemed to have an unabashed affection and desire for her 150 kg frame, trying to take advantage of her at the first opportunity.
Suizi wondered why Yu Jingting was so persistent with her.
When she observed him from a distance in her past life, she had wanted to ask.
Did he just have a thing for plus-sized women?
But she was going to lose weight after giving birth. Even if not for beauty, she can’t stay this size solely for health reasons.
When she loses weight, would he still like her as he did in her past life?
If he was only obsessed with her body, why did he wait a lifetime for her in the previous life and not find some other plus-sized woman more to his liking?
Yu Jingting’s preferences were a mystery.
Since her rebirth, this was the first time Suizi felt lost.
...
Inside the editor’s office of the D City newspaper, the editor-in-chief roared in anger.
"The deadline is this afternoon, and you only tell me now that you haven’t found a translator?! Yuan Youyou, I told you about this three days ago!!!"
Off in her own world, Yuan Youyou barely listened, her thoughts drifted out the window, she was more concerned about meeting up with Chen Hansui.
So angry she was practically smoking, the editor-in-chief, known as Sister Li, felt her head throbbing. The trouble-causing Yuan Youyou was daydreaming again, making her want to spit blood in frustration.
"Editor-in-chief, all the translators with knowledge of minority languages in the city are unavailable. I was searching for them yesterday," Yuan Youyou returned to reality and explained.
"If you couldn’t find anyone yesterday, why are you only telling me now?" Sister Li slapped her hand onto the table and yelled, "Drag her out and bury her!"
The two editors nearby stood to calm down Sister Li.
Faced with a subordinate who only knew how to cry when things went wrong, it was enough to make anyone furious.
"I’ve tried my best~~" Yuan Youyou sobbed, acting as if she had been greatly wronged.
"Sister Li, may I give it a try?"
A lovely voice came out of nowhere.
"You’re— Chen Hansui?" Sister Li’s brightened at the sight of the beauty at the door, despite being in the throes of anger.
Yuan Youyou’s legs went weak, she was nearly scared out of her wits.
When Suizi walked in, to Yuan Youyou, it was as if time had slowed.
Suizi stopped and extended her hand to Sister Li.
"Sister Li, I came to visit you. I’ve been standing at the door for a while, and I overheard your problem. Maybe I can help."
Sister Li, flustered and exasperated, neglected the usual pleasantries and hastily handed the original manuscript on the desk to Suizi.
"It’s a manuscript in D language, can you translate it?"
This was the translation manuscript that the newspaper was about to publish. Suizi glanced at it, it was only one page and the content was short.
"It’s a news manuscript, give me ten minutes."
In the editorial office, everyone, with the exception of Yuan Youyou, cheered. The timely rescue was much appreciated.
"Can you lend me a desk and provide some paper and a pen? This is my little sister. When I’m translating, could someone take her on a tour of the newspaper printing process? She has to write an essay about it when she gets home."
Jiaojiao: ??? Write what now?!
"Are you treating this newspaper agency like a vegetable market?" Yuan Youyou remarked sarcastically.
Sister Li glared at her. The troublemaker had the audacity to make snide remarks?
An editor volunteered to take Jiaojiao on a tour.
The quiet room was filled with the rustling sound of writing, everyone’s gaze was fixed on Suizi.
Suizi wrote confidently and swiftly, each stroke was like a painting.
Six minutes later, she laid down her pen.
"Finished."
Sister Li took it and skimmed over it quickly, full of praises.
"Look at this layout! Look at this handwriting, and the precision of the words... Learn from it!"
A few editors gathered around, full of compliments.
The handwriting was beautiful and the wording impeccable. Without changing a word or sentence, it could be submitted directly. Such mastery wasn’t something everyone could possess.
"How do we know she didn’t just make it up? Our school never taught us D language!" Yuan Youyou was not willing to be ignored, especially not when her boss was complimenting Suizi, someone she had a grudge against.
"Shut up!" Sister Li gritted her teeth. The incompetent Yuan Youyou held no importance in her eyes. Turning her head, she gave Suizi a smile of appreciation.
"How do you know D language?"
"My mother was part of the educated youth, she taught me a little," Suizi didn’t tell the whole truth.
She knew six foreign languages, apart from the Russian one taught in school, the rest were learnt to pass time during her insomnia after her depression in her previous life.
The excellence others saw in her was a reflection of her past scars.
"It would be great if you could work here— By the way, where are you working now?" Sister Li glanced at Suizi then at the useless Yuan Youyou, sighing in regret.
Sister Li had clearly asked the school for Chen Hansui, why did they give her a lump of useless meat instead?
"I came here today to discuss work matters with you— should we talk privately?"
Suizi intentionally said this in front of Yuan Youyou.
Yuan Youyou’s face turned green.
Seeing Suizi and Sister Li go out, Yuan Youyou’s heartbeat quickened.
Chen Hansui must be reporting that she had drugged her, right?
Don’t be scared, she has no evidence. Time has passed, and it’s not threatening— Suddenly, Yuan Youyou’s gaze fell outside the window and froze.
Yu Jingting was leading someone over, and that person was— Yuan Youyou’s pupils shrank. Why was he here?!
Now, she was truly finished!!!!
