I am chasing a rough man in the 80s -
Chapter 636: Today is a Good Day
Chapter 636: Chapter 636: Today is a Good Day
Suizi babbled a whole lot, then she let out a cold laugh.
"I know, I said so much, and you didn’t take in a single word. No sincere words have ever persuaded a pair of arrogant ears!"
"Why say so much knowing that I don’t listen?!"
"Because I never intended to persuade you, I was simply expressing my emotions. You hit my mom, and I’m very unhappy—I’ll simplify it—I didn’t intend to communicate with you, I was openly arguing with you!"
After Suizi finished speaking, she felt much better.
Ever since she adopted Yu Jingting’s way of thinking, and strived to behave like a shrew in appropriate situations, her world had brightened up significantly.
"If talking to people, who don’t listen to reason, is in vain, then simply stop reasoning. If you won’t let my family be happy, I won’t let you be happy either!"
Mother Fan had never before seen a person this different and was momentarily at a loss for words. She instinctively looked at her son.
"This girl, whom this fox has raised, is outrageously disrespectful. This is not the first time she has defied me. Is a child like this truly worthy of the Fan surname?"
Chen Lijun remained silent, with only a hint of defiance and iciness in her eyes. From Lijun’s pursed lips, Suizi sensed disdain and pride.
She seemed to understand her mother all at once and decipher her feelings over the years.
Even though she always used harsh words to criticize Suizi, Suizi was her priceless treasure hidden at the bottom of her heart. She could criticize her all she wanted but wouldn’t let others utter a single negative word.
Suizi even had a feeling that, if Fan Huang said something wrong at this moment, her Queen Mom could totally slap him and sever ties right away.
As Chen Lijun took a step back, hands crossed, scrutinizing Fan Huang, he reached out at the same time, grabbed her arm, and yanked her towards himself.
Suizi didn’t dare to blink, feeling that she might witness history!
"I think the child Lijun raised is exceptional. She understands reason and acts appropriately. Among the Fan family’s young generation, I don’t think anyone is better than her. If anyone’s not worthy, it’s the surname Fan that’s unworthy of her. I don’t plan to let her change her surname. She’s the child that Lijun raised with dedication, and she’s my daughter."
Mother Fan was taken aback and pointed at Suizi, asking, "You don’t plan to record her in the family tree?"
"What’s the relationship between being recorded in the family tree and changing her surname? Why can’t my daughter share her mother’s surname?"
Chen Lijun looked surprised, the corners of her eyes raising, those pursed lips not as tense, her expression softened.
"Are you trying to anger our ancestors? There has never been a child with an outside surname in our family tree!"
"There will be from now on. Lijun and I will only have one child, and that’s Chen Hansui."
Fan Huang pulled Chen Lijun into the house with one hand. Lijun looked back at Suizi and gave her a light smile, her eyes curved gently but lips not lifting at all.
But Suizi could feel that her Queen Mom was pleased, so Suizi herself was all smiles.
Mother Fan took a step back, her face showing cracks. Her noble demeanor was torn apart by her son’s determination, revealing a weary and aged face.
Looking at Mother Fan, Suizi envisioned a Mara Train. The old woman in front of her dressed in modern fashion, trying to fit in with modern times, couldn’t change her innate arrogance and outmodedness. Her rotten beliefs crumbled easily when touched, swept away by the winds of the time, leaving only absurdity and silliness.
Mother Fan was furious at her son. When she lifted her eyes, she saw the wild child looking only at her shoes.
"What are you looking at?"
"Looking at your old feet, ma’am. I was wondering why you’re still so conservative? We’ve stopped feet-binding years ago," Suizi sighed.
"Are you an idiot? Where did you see grandma’s feet bound?" Fan Lili glared at Suizi disdainfully.
"Physical foot-binding can be swayed by just removing the bandages, bringing relief. But the foot-binding of the spirit...sheesh."
Suizi finished speaking, didn’t look at Mother Fan’s darkened face any longer, turned around, and sat on the swing that Fan Huang had made recently. She started to swing back and forth, clearly uninterested in wasting her breath on an unwelcome guest.
Mother Fan’s face turned green and white after being insulted. She wanted to go in and say a few words to her son, but then Yu Jingting arrived.
"Oh, granny is here again? Do you miss the hairstyle I did for you and want me to do that again?"
"Let’s leave!" Mother Fan, recalling painful memories at the sight of him, left in a huff with Fan Lili.
"Granny, why don’t you go ahead? I’ll leave later?" Fan Lili couldn’t take her eyes off Yu Jingting, as if they were glued onto him.
"Haven’t had enough of being beaten, huh? Scram!" Yu Jingting showed her a completely different attitude, causing Lili to hide behind the old lady, no longer daring to flirt.
In the house, Chen Lijun poured Fan Huang a cup of tea and lightly massaged his stiff shoulders.
"I feel like today’s a good day... Should we go to the Civil Affairs Bureau this afternoon?" Fan Huang’s voice held a mild tension. Feeling a long silence behind him, he cleared his throat and continued, "If you don’t feel like it, we can go another day."
"Why drag it out? When a chance comes, seize it right then. From my calculations, today’s the perfect day," Yu Jingting said, his voice preceding him into the house.
Suizi jabbed at him. If sneaking a listen was bad enough, sticking his nose in was deplorable!
"Your calculations seem to be quite accurate. Let’s go this afternoon then."
Fan Huang showed no emotion on his face. He was still unaware of his new hairdo and seemed to not have processed what he had just heard.
"Got it~ That’s perfect! I’ll go smash Fan Hui’s windows to add to the festivities for my royal parents!"
Suizi pulled at Yu Jingting as a half-laugh half-groan slipped out of her, "It’s an auspicious day. Why on earth would you smash someone’s windows?"
Fan Huang, who was still in shock, finally came around. His head bobbed in agreement, joy written all over his face.
"Right, it’s an auspicious day..."
This day, he had waited many years for.
"Go change. I don’t want to take a photo with a man wearing an old man’s sweatshirt. And Chen Hansui, what are you wearing?"
Chen Lijun gave her daughter a disdainful look.
To make taking care of her children convenient, Suizi was wearing a large white short-sleeved shirt of Yu Jingting’s with shorts, her hair casually pulled back, and she was wearing flip-flops. Surprisingly, her home attire was strikingly similar to Fan Huang’s.
"It’s very comfortable. Mom, do you want me to get you a couple? They’re very soft and cool in the summer."
Fan Huang nodded in agreement, "Yes, they’re very cool—"—finding Chen Lijun gaze, however, he quickly switched sides.
"As a young lady, you need to pay more attention to your appearance. Get a few nice dresses made, and I’ll carry the expenses."
"Dad, I also need payback." Yu Jingting hugged Suizi, laughing with delight as he took the chance to grab her.
"Every expense will be paid," said Fan Huang, his smile warming up. He had welcomed home the woman he most desired. Covering the children’s expenses was the least he could do.
"Well, I’m really grateful to the old lady. If she hadn’t come to stir things up, no one would’ve reimbursed me for these clothes—Should I make a pennant and send it to granny? I’ve already thought of what to write..."
