I am chasing a rough man in the 80s -
Chapter 626: Can You Be More Sarcastic?
Chapter 626: Chapter 626: Can You Be More Sarcastic?
The long hospital corridor was filled with the smell of disinfectant. Suizi stood at the ward entrance, watching the occasional passers-by, who were patients’ relatives, trying not to look too relaxed.
As a matter of fact, she was quite relaxed at the moment.
If it were not for the car accident, she would not have been able to change her mind so easily, perhaps she would have been in a dilemma for a long time.
But now, having come to terms with it, she was no longer conflicted.
The truth behind the past events didn’t seem all that important to her anymore.
Her mother’s reaction today was enough proof. As long as her mother was happy, that’s all that mattered.
After a while, the Fan’s mother brought a few people over.
Among them, Suizi only recognized Fan Ze, a naïve young man. The others were strangers, both middle-aged and young.
Fan’s mother had a strong aura about her, but Suizi calmly barred the door.
"What do you think you’re doing? I want to see my son!" the mother demanded Suizi, her dark circles betraying a recent bout of tears.
"He needs rest now. Please come back tomorrow," Suizi looked around at the group.
Picking up on their hostile expressions, Suizi keenly sensed that they were here for more than just visiting a sick relative.
Although Fan Huang was not in a critical condition, the doctor had mentioned that he needed absolute rest due to a concussion. Suizi chose to spare him the headache of dealing with these people.
"Who do you think you are, interfering with my family affairs?" Fan’s mother, infuriated, signaled two men to come forward and drag Suizi away.
Just as one of them was about to grab Suizi, a large peach flew in and struck his hand. He yelped and withdrew his hand in pain.
"Do you really think my family doesn’t have anyone to stand up for ourselves?"
The authoritative voice came from the other end of the corridor, filling Suizi’s heart with reassurance.
Wang Cuihua and Yu Shuisheng arrived, carrying a soup pot and some fruits. In Shuisheng’s hand was another peach, ready to hit anyone who dared to hurt their daughter-in-law.
Cuihua rushed to Suizi’s side, shielding her behind her back like a hen protecting her chick, and stared at the crowd menacingly.
From her perspective, this domineering old lady was bullying her defenseless and sympathetic daughter-in-law.
"What are you all trying to do-- oh, I get it. You’re all just trying to curry favor and share in my family’s wealth. You’re all in cahoots with her!"
Cuihua shook her head in disapproval and clenched both of her fists.
"An ignoble wife can ruin three generations. Doesn’t your Fan family believe in such sayings? How did you manage to enter the family then?"
"Perhaps, by bribing the fortuneteller?" Shuisheng stepped in, his intimidating presence keeping the members of the Fan family at bay.
Shuisheng exuded an unusual aura of murderous intent, cultivated from his experiences on the battlefield. His serious demeanor was enough to deter anyone from stepping forward.
"You’re spouting nonsense!" Fan’s mother, angered by Cuihua’s words, turned around to find her companions had all taken a step back. This only served to fuel her rage.
"Enough." Chen Lijun opened the door, her face set in a solemn expression.
"Fan Huang wants his peace for now. All of you should leave."
"Are you speaking for yourself or for him?" Fan’s mother glared at Lijun, who had been her nightmare for many years. She couldn’t understand what magic Lijun possessed to mesmerize her two sons.
"It doesn’t matter whether it’s me or him speaking. Bottom line, none of you can see him today. Auntie, please maintain your dignity."
Fan’s mother clenched her teeth, casting a cold sneer at Lijun and her son.
"Fine, I would like to see how long you can keep up this act! Let’s go!"
"One should only laugh when they want to. Laughing all the time is a sign of facial nerve disorder, which requires medical attention." Suizi spoke softly, yet loud enough for everyone to hear.
Fan’s mother shot her one last disapproving glance. But Suizi simply lifted her chin, unafraid.
"You’ve really pissed her off now. That old lady can be really troublesome when riled up. Everyone has been spoiling her." Lijun patted Suizi, truly surprised by her daughter’s actions today.
"I’ve got plenty of people who despise me. She’s not the first, nor will she be the last. I don’t care." Suizi’s attitude was well trained by Jingting.
"How is Fan Huang doing?" Cuihua inquired.
"He’s okay now. Come in and let’s talk."
Lijun opened the door and let everyone in.
Fan Ze, who had been watching from the back, turned to tattle on them to his grandmother.
"Nana, how can they go in?"
Didn’t they say he needs rest? Why are all these people going in?
"Shut up!" Fan’s mother vented her anger on him, shooting him an angry glare. Ignorantly stirring the pot!
After a short nap, Fan Huang woke up to a wave of nausea and an urge to vomit. Lijun held out a spittoon for him, but he shook his head, looking at her pale white hand.
"You sure you don’t want to swallow because you don’t want to waste my mom?" Suizi asked.
Unable to hold it back any longer after her remark, Fan Huang vomited into the spittoon.
A bit of vomit splashed onto Lijun’s hand, but she remained unfazed, telling her daughter to get some water for swishing while she calmly dealt with the spittoon.
"Cough, cough. Suizi, do you have to mimic Jingting in being so... blunt?"
"I’m actually very restrained. If it were Jingting, he would definitely say—’Stop pretending to be a damsel and say it’s disgusting. If we grow old together, what are you going to do when I need you to help me clean up my shit and piss? Suffocate to death under a pillow?’"
Suizi perfectly imitated Jingting’s essence.
Fan Huang closed his eyes. When could he be discharged from this hellhole...? This fair-weathered daugther is considerate, but a bit overbearing in the heat of summer!
Shuisheng returned after asking around in the hospital.
Fan Hui’s condition had stabilized, but his injuries were more serious than Fan Huang’s. He had fractured ribs and a disfigured face.
"Apparently, it was from the shattered glass during the accident. When I went over, his face was wrapped up like... like a mummy."
"A mummy?"
"Yeah, pretty much. The old lady was also in the ward, with a whole crowd around her. I didn’t see his wife though. Dude, what did you do to piss off the whole family? When I went over, your mom, leading your cousins, was berating you."
This situation was indeed quite peculiar.
Fan Huang, the one who actually pulled the strings, was lying here, ignored like a stray dog. Even though the Fan’s mother did bring a group of people over, it was clear that she was concerned about her son, not about starting trouble.
Following her initial feelings and after hearing from her father-in-law about how the Fan family jointly cursed at Fan Huang, Suizi’s suspicion was confirmed.
"Dad, what did you do to become so unpopular?"
"Nothing except disciplining the family."
Fan Huang called off all messy and disorganized business.
He cut off unnecessary expenditures.
He refused to arrange jobs based on relationship connections.
He cracked down on any misconduct he discovered in the family.
Since he had disrupted everyone’s vested interests, it was only logical that they would curse him.
"Of course, that might not be the main reason."
"Can you be any more damaging?" Shuisheng expressed everyone’s sentiments.
"Not really a big deal. They consulted a Feng Shui master, who identified a piece of land for our ancestral tomb. I didn’t approve."
Suizi gave a thumbs-up, impressed. High! He was truly a man who dared to go against an entire clan, ruthless enough to sever their ’Dragon Vein’.
She felt that her old dad was the real man capable of challenging a large family. He was ruthless enough.
