Chapter 60: Chapter 60: The Feng Shui of the Old Yu Family Overpowers Roasted Potatoes

Suizi led Jiaojiao out of the school campus and didn’t see Yu Jingting, Jiaojiao’s mouth was sticking out almost as far as an oil lamp wick.

"Where has my brother gone?"

Suizi guessed that Yu Jingting had gone to deal with the matter concerning Yan Changgui.

Jiaojiao spent the whole time pouting, her mood was very bad right now.

Suizi was substitute teaching for fifth grade in the afternoon, but Jiaojiao and Xiaopang were causing a ruckus in the classroom, disrupting the order, making it impossible for the third-graders to study independently.

Suizi moved these two little devils to the fifth grade classroom, setting up two small tables at the side of the teacher’s desk, one naughty child on each side under her watchful eye, like mythical guardians at her side.

Jiaojiao was forced to listen to the fifth grade lessons, and to her, an extra lesson was as heartbreaking as missing a piece of meat.

"Hey, don’t you think the people who create math textbooks are crazy?" Jiaojiao was so mad that she didn’t care to address Suizi properly.

Suizi didn’t take it personally. She held Jiaojiao’s small hand and walked towards home.

"No matter how you look at it, counting rooster legs and rabbit legs and trying to figure out how many roosters and rabbits are in the cage. Isn’t it a waste of time? It’s obvious on a glance, yet they have to spend ages calculating!" Having overheard a fifth-grade class, she thought it was as incomprehensible as literature, wondering if the people who set these problems were sick.

"And that other one, Xiaoming goes from point A to B, Xiaohua goes from B to A, and needs to work out the time of their meeting. Couldn’t they be using that time to eat sunflower seeds instead? Would knowing the time of meeting really mean they could eat an extra bowl of rice?"

There was only a few types of elementary school math problems, and in Jiaojiao’s eyes, they were all meaningless.

In fact, Suizi also thought so when she was younger, but as a teacher now, she couldn’t lead her students astray.

"There are houses of gold in books. You’ll understand when you grow up," Suizi quickly replied, borrowing some words her mother once used to bluff her.

"I don’t want to understand. I want to be a spiritual conduit. Studying is so boring."

Suizi was having a headache because Jiaojiao had been so persistent about becoming a spiritual conduit.

All she wanted now was to quickly catch Yan Changgui, then take Jiaojiao to the city during the students’ weekend break, hoping that Jiaojiao would discover more attractive careers.

"Jiaojiao, knowledge is power."

"What kind of power? Aren’t you the most educated woman in our village? Could you beat my brother in a fight?"

Suizi thought to herself that she might not be able to beat him in a fight, but she could use knowledge to recite a colorful Tang poem that would leave Yu Jingting begging for mercy but unable to die - cough, cough.

Suizi wiped away the messy thoughts in her head. She was certain that she had been corrupted by this village ruffian’s sweet-talk. Were these the thoughts of a socialist successor?

While the two sisters-in-law were talking, Suizi squinted her eyes.

She saw a figure in the distance that looked like Lun Lamei, and upon squinting, indeed it was her.

Lun Lamei had a scarf around her head, and was carrying a bulging triangular cloth bag on her arm, walking quickly. By the looks of it, she seemed to be about to go out.

Suizi and Yu Jingting had speculated at noon that due to her missing chickens, Lamei would probably take shelter in Yuanjia Village for a few days, otherwise Wang Fenfang would defiantly scold her.

Yu Jingting might already be laying in wait near Yuanjia Village, otherwise why wouldn’t he have come to pick her up?

But the direction that Lun Lamei was heading was not towards Yuanjia Village.

As Suizi was thinking about this, Yan Changgui approached from the opposite direction.

Suizi’s heart tightened, and she gripped Jiaojiao’s hand tightly, casting a wary glance at Yan Changgui, her nerves on edge.

If this scumbag dared to do anything to Jiaojiao, she would fight him to the death.

Fortunately, Yan Changgui’s attention was not on Jiaojiao and Suizi, he was walking briskly, eyes front.

Suizi noticed a long bulge behind his waist and under his clothes, probably a hidden axe or similar tool.

"Sis, you’re squeezing my hand too tight."

Jiaojiao had no idea what had happened in the blink of an eye, just felt that her sister-in-law’s grip was crushing her hand.

Yan Changgui had already walked far away. Looking at the footprints on the ground, he was heading in the same direction as Lun Lamei.

Could it be that...

Suizi was startled.

At noon, she had instructed Yu Jingting to spread the news outside, saying that Lun Lamei had seen the villain in the corn field, not mentioning who it was, only that she had seen his face.

Yu Jingting was very efficient, he had gone to spread the word after dropping her off at school in the afternoon.

Watching Yan Changgui following Lun Lamei with a weapon, it was evident that he had heard the news.

"Silencing a witness" kept flashing in Suizi’s mind.

According to what she and Yu Jingting had surmised, they both thought that Lamei would go to Yuanjia Village, but the direction was off now.

The plan had changed!

Suizi didn’t have time to think about where Lun Lamei was going.

If, at this moment, she was in a future world where everyone had a cell phone, she would just need to make a call to tell Yu Jingting to come over.

But there wasn’t one!!!

It was impossible to know where Yu Jingting was now, but what could she use to inform him?

While thinking, Suizi was drawing a mental map.

The direction Lun Lamei was going was the village’s main road, and presently, there would be lots of students returning home at the end of school. Based on her walking speed, she couldn’t leave the main road for at least 10 minutes, and with so many people around, Yan Changgui would not dare to act.

But after 10 minutes, there was a high likelihood that Lun Lamei would choose one of three paths to walk down, each leading to a different village. The surrounding area would either be small woods or overgrown shrubbery.

This was a location where it would be easy to strike.

There were only 10 minutes to make the arrest, and she had to get Yu Jingting there within 10 minutes. There were two conditions that had to be met.

First, Yu Jingting had to be nearby. Second, she had to notify him as soon as possible...

"What are you thinking about?" Jiaojiao saw Suizi standing there motionless like a log and gave her a gentle tug.

"Suppose, your brother runs at a speed of 300m per minute, while that little someone from a certain family walks at 60m per minute. How long would it take for your brother to catch up?" Suizi quickly calculates in her mind, her eyes scanning around and landing on the village broadcast station in front.

"It’s after school already, why are you still going on about math problems?!" Jiaojiao felt victimized, and it was a critical hit!

Having a teacher as a sister-in-law meant additional after-school tutoring without any extra charge?!

Suizi patted her on the shoulder.

"Today, I will show you the power of knowledge. Follow me!"

Suizi quickly led Jiaojiao to the broadcast room.

The village chief was about to switch on the loudspeaker, and planned to remind everyone to stay warm as the temperature was dropping.

The burner in the broadcast room had a pot on top, under which were a few simmering russet potatoes. The village chief smiled.

Eating baked potatoes at home brought back bad memories.

How clever he was to bring them here to eat, surely that rascal from the Yu family wouldn’t appear, right?

He would announce the message, then enjoy a scrumptious roasted potato with a sip of wine, it would be utterly blissful.

Suddenly, Suizi burst into the broadcast room.

The village chief: ????

"I’m going to borrow the loudspeaker." Suizi gave the village chief a quick smile. Ignoring his dumbfounded expression, she switched on the loudspeaker.

The village chief was stupefied.

Did the Yu family have bad Feng Shui with baked potatoes?

Why was it that every time he roasted potatoes, someone from the Yu family showed up?

Yu Jingting, that street loafer, was unreliable, but now even the sensible Suizi has gone rogue!!!
