I am chasing a rough man in the 80s -
Chapter 530: Let the Children Play
Chapter 530: Chapter 530: Let the Children Play
What Suizi referred to as "the unbearable lightness of being" is the story of a man seeking variety in his relationships with different women.
Even though this book is acclaimed as a philosophical novel, Suizi sees it as a story of a man, rotten to the core, sleeping around recklessly.
Quite fitting to describe Fan Hui, the supreme womanizer.
"Ow! Why did you bite me?" Suizi covered her cheek and glared at Yu Jingting, aggrieved and angry.
Was he a dog?
Biting at every disagreement!
"To wake you from your unrealistic dreams. Who your father is doesn’t matter at all. What’s important is that you need to know who your man is."
Yu Jingting’s gaze was dangerously intense.
He said it fiercely as he was unbuttoning his cotton padded jacket.
"Isn’t my man you?" Suizi was puzzled.
"Good, you know that I’m your man. How dare you fantasize about running off with some wild men? You really need to be tamed!"
"That’s just a hypothesis! Yu Jingting, let go of me! I’m seriously expressing my sorrow, you can’t-- um!"
As the lamp went out, Yu Jingting began wreaking havoc without a care for anyone.
In her slight daze, Suizi realize two truths:
First, with Yu Jingting around her, no matter if she’s fearful or aggrieved, confused or astonished, it would never last long. This guy always "invades her thoughts", stops her from overthinking things in his own way.
Second, if what makes each person unique is "the lightness of life", then surely all of Yu Jingting’s "lightness of life" is concentrated in his strong biological instinct!
In Yu Jingting’s own words, when your mind is filled with too much nonsense, you’ll find yourself entangled in meaningless thoughts, much like his wife, overthinking unnecessarily.
So when overwhelmed, you need to let off steam, pretty simple, right?
Though this ’method’ of his was used repeatedly, Suizi found that her mind was indeed much relaxed the next day.
Seems this method was quite effective.
Suizi finally came to terms with it.
Who her biological father was didn’t matter. She had lived an excellent life all these years without a father.
Now, if Fan Huang wants to pursue her mother, wants to create a family with her, as long as her mother agrees and is happy, she doesn’t mind either.
Fan Huang’s actions to protect her twice had left a good impression. With that good impression, she naturally didn’t object to him being with her mother.
When Meng Jun came to find Fan Huang the next day, she was surprised to see him and Suizi happily practicing calligraphy together.
Fan Huang wrote a couplet for Suizi for the New Year and Suizi gave him a fan with her own calligraphy on it. However, he would have to wait until he returned to Beijing to open it and see.
Wang Cuihua had prepared many local specialties for Fan Huang to take back to Chen Lijun. After another lunch together, the two families separated.
Seeing Fan Huang leave, the boy and girl twins cried their hearts out, making Fan Huang feel sympathetic.
He hugged them, consoled them, gave them the gold pen and jade seal he carried with him, and even sneakily put the money he had on him under the kids’ pillows.
He truly left with nothing left, leaving the Yu Family empty-handed. Yet for Fan Huang, this trip was rewarding in many ways. Not only did he win Suizi’s approval, but Yu Jingting also gave him a strategy on how to win over Chen Lijun’s heart.
Even after Fan Huang left, Suizi was still pondering the question.
"Why can’t he be my dad?"
Compared to the womanizer, she liked Fan Huang better.
Yu Jingting also couldn’t understand this.
Leaving Fan Huang’s illustrious status aside and looking at him as an individual, the more he looked at him, the more he found similarities with Suizi.
Whether it was their speaking habits, their shared interest in collectibles, or even the books they liked to read, they almost all fell into the same category.
It was quite puzzling how two people with such high similarities could not be father and daughter.
Suizi initially thought she had found her biological father, but it turned out he was her uncle... her biological uncle.
"Our Luoluo looks a lot like Jiaojiao, isn’t it normal for a child to resemble their aunt? So, you looking like your uncle... isn’t that strange... right?"
Yu Jingting, holding Luoluo, placed Luoluo’s little face next to Jiaojiao. They did look quite similar.
This conclusion somehow disappointed Suizi a bit.
However, considering the fact that Chen Lijun herself had said Fan Huang was not her father, Suizi could only let go of this matter.
"Forget it, whoever my mom is with is her business. Let’s pretend I don’t know who my real dad is, and I’d rather never ever meet that good-for-nothing playboy."
She’d rather believe she never had a biological father than accept someone who flirts around. She’s just managed to free herself from Chen Kaide, she doesn’t need more trouble in her life.
Fan Huang returned to Beijing. When he got off the train, it was already in the wee hours of the morning.
The Fan family needed to be together for the New Year, despite his reluctance, he couldn’t break this tradition.
Yet, the first thing he did after getting off the train wasn’t going home, but heading to the Chen family house.
He waited at the entrance of Chen family’s courtyard.
Chen Lijun, yawning as she came out of the courtyard, was startled to see the man at the front door.
"Who are you?"
"Stop kidding." The voice of Fan Huang was tired and a bit helpless.
"Oh, isn’t this the boss? My eyes are so poor, I thought some beggar had come here for food."
Fan Huang didn’t even change his clothes, still wearing the worn-out cotton coat filled with cotton threads. Chen Lijun playfully poked her finger through the holes in his coat.
"Did the Fan family throw you out? Can’t afford clothes anymore?"
"I kept this for saving Suizi."
"What happened?!" Upon hearing her daughter’s name, Chen Lijun immediately dropped her playful expression and became serious.
"Our child has agreed to let me be with you. This is the proof."
Fan Huang took out the fan Suizi had given him, and with a triumphant and showy expression, he put it in front of Chen Lijun.
It was as if he held not a mere fan but a royal command from the emperor.
Chen Lijun took a closer look and almost laughed her head off.
"Is this girl wholesaling fans? Addicted to giving fans away? Trying to fan away your luck, she must be cursing you."
"Look, what does it say here, uh?" Fan Huang was taken aback.
He thought Suizi would write blessings like ’may you two always be together’.
After the friendly conversations, he felt like they become good friends. Based on his judgement, Suizi didn’t dislike or hate him.
On the white, dense, glossy, jade-like paper, Suizi had written three large characters with her lively calligraphy: Just kidding.
This went far cry from what Fan Huang had imagined, like ’may you two always be together’.
Fan Huang recollected the riddle given by Yu Jingting and suddenly had a bad feeling. He took it out and opened it. It only had one sentence:
Sincere, sincere, it’s still goddamn sincere!
Fan Huang was dumbfounded, while Chen Lijun burst into laughter.
"Ha ha ha! You are so old and yet got played by a young girl?"
Fan Huang looked at Chen Lijun, feeling wronged and helpless. Seeing her laughing so happily, he too started smiling.
"Alright, you keep it since she gave it to you. If you lose it, she’ll really get angry. Though my daughter seems all modest and graceful most of the time, when she’s upset, she is ruthless and unforgiving... and she really holds a grudge."
Chen Lijun added silently in her heart, she’s exactly like you, you stubborn mule.
