Chapter 527: Chapter 527: Old Heroes are also Brave

I’m worried about you getting hurt.

These words seemed to cross through time and space, splitting history itself, like a raging magma, instantly pouring into Fan Huang’s heart.

To him, these were not uttered by Suizi, but by the sincerest emotions voiced by Chen Lijun.

Stunned, Fan Huang gazed at Suizi, who nodded to him.

Suizi sensed that something was off with Fan Huang, smelling the strong scent of alcohol from him; she guessed he might have had too much to drink.

Feeling increasingly unsettled, she resolved to leave this trouble-ridden place as soon as possible, tugging at Fan Huang to leave.

Chen Kaide, his heart pounding with anxiety, watched as his potential prey slipped away.

It had been a challenge for him to find the opportunity to assault Suizi; if he missed this chance, he would never have another.

As he watched Suizi and Fan Huang walk away, Chen Kaide, in his desperation, pulled out a fruit knife from his pocket and rushed towards Fan Huang.

Like Kaide, Chen had also gulped down a fair amount of liquor. But while he had not reached a stage of obliviousness, his mind was clear – shaky on his feet, losing control of his motor functions.

He had intended to threaten Fan Huang with the knife, the goal being to stop Fan from meddling in his affairs.

But the alcohol had now truly kicked in, and his body was not properly coordinated; Chen took an unsteady step and plunged the knife straight towards Fan Huang.

"Watch out!" Meng Jun, rushing towards the scene, almost swooned at the sight unfolding before her.

All that had transpired in the alleyway had taken place within a matter of a single minute.

Meng Jun had been trailing closely behind Fan Huang. She was only slightly slower and had arrived just in time to witness the heart-stopping scene play out before her eyes.

Suizi tried to pull away from Fan Huang, but he shielded her, placing himself squarely between her and the impending danger.

Chen Kaide’s knife pierced through to Fan Huang’s back.

Suizi felt as if the world had come to a standstill.

In that moment, everything seemed to be happening in slow motion.

"Ah!!! You bastard!!!" Suizi, frantic with rage, charged at Chen Kaide and started kicking him furiously.

Chen Kaide was dumbstruck.

He hadn’t anticipated things would turn out this way.

All he had intended was to frighten, not stab. How on earth did the knife end up in him?!

"You dare injure him! I’ll kill you!!!" Suizi, landing a flurry of punches and kicks, was in a state of shock and seemed unable to control herself.

"Who the hell is he to you, I’m your father!"

"Bullshit! He’s my father. Not you – you old scheming bastard who spies on me while I’m taking a shower! I don’t acknowledge you!" In her fit of rage and panic, Suizi let these words slip out without thinking.

Her words, though not thought through, found their mark.

Her declaration - he is my father - successfully sobered up Fan Huang, at least by half.

Chen Kaide was now lying on the ground, brutally kicked by Suizi until he was bent over like a shrimp. Suizi even picked up a brick from the ground and was about to smash it against Chen Kaide’s head.

If she went through with it, the situation would escalate.

At the critical moment, Fan Huang grabbed her wrist. Suizi looked at him, her eyes swelling with unshed tears.

"I’m fine. It got stuck in the padded overcoat...cough...cough... Your northern overcoats, they’re really thick."

"Boss, you...you’re okay?!" Meng Jun came over, looking at the fruit knife handle sticking out of Fan Huang’s back, her voice trembling with anxiety.

"Pull it out, I’ll be fine." Fan Huang commanded.

Meng Jun carefully removed the knife. There was no blood on the tip, and the handle was slightly bent.

When Suizi felt around the puncture, she found that the fruit knife had only pierced the coat, not even ripping through the sweater underneath. If the sweater was unharmed, the person should also be okay.

She let out a sigh of relief. Thankfully, he was unharmed.

Chen Kaide lay on the ground, his senses knocked out by Suizi. He mumbled in a daze:

"That knife wasn’t fast, I didn’t even sharpen it... I just wanted to scare you... "

"Too much lip! Take that, you filthy piece of–!" Still reeling from the shock of what happened, Suizi aimed a few more kicks at him.

"Hand him over to the police. Let him face charges of intentional assault! Here’s hoping he gets locked away forever!" Suizi, still enraged, felt that that the scoundrel really deserved the worst.

"That wouldn’t work - you and your mother would also be adversely affected. Leave it to me." Fan Huang signaled to Meng Jun with his eyes.

On the cue, Meng Jun understood that he should handle things from here. His primary objective now was to make sure Chen Kaide never disturbed Suizi and her family again.

Although Suizi didn’t want Chen Kaide to get away, she was forcibly dragged away by Fan Huang.

Meng Jun saw the boss’s overcoat was torn, revealing tufts of cotton. There was a funny side to the scene, but he didn’t dare burst into laughter at his boss’s expense.

He had to struggle to keep a straight face.

Meng Jun stayed back to handle the matter with Chen Kaide, but just as Suizi and Fan Huang were about to get into the car, he intentionally spoke in a loud voice:

"Boss, because you went off to save Director Chen, we missed the train. It’s too late to even change our tickets now."

He said it for Suizi to hear, even though it was the truth.

Feeling guilty, Suizi looked at Fan Huang, and it didn’t feel quite right to let him go just yet.

"Why don’t... you come home with me first? We have plenty of guest rooms in our house, and they’re cleaner than anything outside."

"Would that be alright?" Fan Huang’s eyes were filled with anticipation.

Suizi nodded, realizing that she wouldn’t have the conscience to turn him away after all he’d done to protect her, even revealing the cotton padding of his overcoat.

"We didn’t even finish drinking earlier. At my place, I can cook a few dishes for you. Jingting would keep you company too."

"Speaking of Jingting, why did he let you go out alone and run into such danger?"

Fan Huang opened the car door for Suizi, his face ushers an unmistakable sign of dissatisfaction.

If he hadn’t noticed what was going on, would Suizi have been in danger?

"It’s a long story..."

Suizi had never imagined she would be this unlucky.

After the disagreement with Fan Huang during the day, she and Yu Jingting returned home.

The aunt who taught Jiaojiao piano came over. She mentioned that a close relative in Beijing, was having some health issues, and she needed to rush over immediately.

Since she had a lot of items to carry, Suizi drove the tractor with Yu Jingting to the train station to help her.

Yu Jingting went to the platform to help the aunt with her luggage. In the meantime, Suizi waited outside.

Within the span of a few minutes, Chen Kaide had showed up, grabbed Suizi, and forcibly led her away.

Suizi thought he was short on money and creating a scene with her. Not wanting to cause a stir in public, she followed him outside the train station.

Before she could protest, she was knocked unconscious by Chen Kaide.

When she came to, she found both of them on a tricycle. The entire process had only taken a few minutes, and Suizi was lucky to have woken up in time.

Ignoring everything else, she jumped off the tricycle. Chen Kaide chased after her relentlessly.

In the midst of the scuffle, Fan Huang arrived.

Suizi didn’t know what Chen Kaide had intended to do by taking her. But whatever it was, she was sure it wasn’t anything good.

Maybe he intended to sell her off to the Mountain Ditch, maybe he even planned on physically harming her; either way, Suizi was scared and convinced such actions were within his means.

Yet, even as Suizi recounted her ordeal in an understated manner, Fan Huang was burning with rage.

"Has he always treated you this badly?" This poor girl had suffered so much since early childhood.

"Not when I was younger. Back then, my mom was around, and she always protected me. I never really suffered. After my mom returned to the city, I got married into the Yu Family, and there was really nothing he could do to inflict any suffering upon me."

Right now, all Suizi wanted to do was get to the train station. She surmised Yu Jingting probably couldn’t find her and was likely going mad.

Suddenly, Suizi’s gaze locked onto something. She quickly yelled out:

"Stop the car! Please, stop the car!"
