Chapter 491: Chapter 491 It’s not my business
Shen Liangyin and her accomplices ran away so fast, they even abandoned little Jin Wa.
Suizi had no choice but to take the child to the police station and ask Liao Yong to send the child back to the Shen Family.
She could never go to the Shen Family herself. After everything that had happened, the two families might as well be sworn enemies.
That night, Liao Yong brought the child back again.
"They also refused to take her, claiming that she was brought by Yang Jinhuan. Yang Jinhuan had already taken the train back to the Border, and the Shen Family refused to shelter the child."
"If they won’t accept her, we can’t either. If we do, what would that mean?" Suizi frowned.
As soon as she finished speaking, little Jin Wa stifled her cries and called Suizi "mom" while reaching out for her to hold.
The child was only a year older than Little Luobo and couldn’t articulate well, which made her especially pitiful.
Suizi was still nursing. Unable to resist her sympathetic heart at hearing the child’s cries, she reached out and held the child.
As soon as she was in Suizi’s arms, the child immediately held onto her neck tightly, as if afraid that Suizi would abandon her.
"It seems like the child is quite attached to you," Liao Yong said.
"I can help take care of her for a few days, but definitely not long-term. This child has her own family, how can we separate her from them?"
Suizi felt that the Shen Family should be responsible for the child. Since the child was found on their premises, both logically and morally, it was their responsibility.
The Shen Family’s actions were truly despicable, shifting all responsibility to Yang Jinhuan who had already fled, and pretending to be innocent themselves.
"If you can take care of her for a few days, that would be great. We are also trying our best to find her family. We’re all men at the station, it’s really not convenient for us to take care of a child."
Liao Yong thanked Suizi repeatedly when he heard that she was willing to help.
"Could it be that Jin Wa was bought by Yang Jinhuan? If so, catch her and question her thoroughly. I have her address at the border, go and arrest her."
Yu Shuisheng gave his "enthusiastic" suggestions to Liao Yong.
"Maybe she’s a human trafficker. Just look at her sneaky, rat-like demeanour."
"The simplest way is still to ask Shen Liangyin. She was the one who gave the idea to Yang Jinhuan. As long as she’s willing to say who the child’s family is, wouldn’t we have a lead?"
Suizi couldn’t understand why such a simple problem had become so complicated.
"Shen Liangyin insists that she doesn’t know anything, and we don’t have a reason to detain her. Also, there’s her father..." Liao Yong was hesitant to continue.
Suizi understood.
Shen Liangyin had a protective father who was obstructing Liao Yong’s investigation.
There were ambiguities as to whether the child was bought or borrowed from a friend’s family. Now that the Shen Family clearly wasn’t cooperating, there was little Liao Yong could do.
"They really are trying to make our lives miserable, how interesting."
Suizi laughed coldly. The Shen Family was oblivious to their impending disaster. Shen Liangyin must have lost her mind out of anger to carry out such a meaningless action.
"Alright, keep the child at our place for now. You go and find her family. Until you do, we’ll take care of her. We can afford to feed one more mouth."
Wang Cuihua came out of the room and upon hearing Suizi’s plan to keep the child, quickly pulled her aside to whisper.
"Suizi, those bad women said this child was fathered by your dad. If we keep him, won’t we be confirming this? Why don’t we just give some powdered milk to Liao Yong so he could take her to someone else?"
Suizi thought her mother-in-law’s words made sense. Keeping the child would indeed impact her reputation.
Just then, little Jin Wa, who was held by Suizi, seemed to understand what the adults were saying. Terrified that Suizi would abandon him, he held onto Suizi tighter and buried his head in her chest, crying out for his mom.
Suizi’s heart softened at his cries.
"I’ll ask Liao Yong to explain this to the neighbours. If they have doubts, I’ll clear it up myself. The child is too young. I’m uneasy about leaving him with others, so we’ll help take care of him for a few days."
Not only did Wang Cuihua find it strange, but Yu Jingting also thought it was abnormal.
"You’re usually not the type to intervene in other’s affairs."
"I can’t really explain it; maybe it’s fate." Suizi looked at Jin Wa in her arms and felt a strong affinity towards the little guy.
She couldn’t explain why, but connections amongst people were sometimes incredibly mysterious.
"I’m helping him out a bit and although it might bring me a little trouble, I’m more than capable of sorting it out. It requires a bit more effort, sure, but maybe my help would make the child feel more secure, so it’s not a loss."
Upon further thought, Wang Cuihua agreed that doing good and accumulating virtues was also a way of earning merit for their descendants. Besides, they could afford to raise one more child at home. They wouldn’t miss feeding one more mouth.
With Liao Yong personally handling it, the neighbourhood wouldn’t spread false rumors. They even admired Suizi’s compassionate and kind-hearted nature.
Still, there were some people who laughed behind their backs, saying that this mother and daughter-in-law pair were fools, unnecessarily helping their enemy’s child and even using their own milk powder to feed this child from god-knows-where. If this wasn’t a sign of having too much money then what was?
As for what these people thought, Suizi couldn’t care less.
She couldn’t possibly satisfy everyone. Caring too much about others’ opinions would only wear her down.
Ignoring the opinions of irrelevant people and doing what she wanted was the way to go.
That night, as Wang Cuihua was helping Jin Wa undress, she gasped in astonishment upon seeing the child’s back.
"Heavens, almighty!"
"What happened?" Yu Shuisheng asked.
Pointing at Jin Wa’s back, her lips trembling, Wang Cuihua was speechless.
Suizi came over, covering her mouth in astonishment at what she saw.
"Jingting! Come take a look!"
"What? Quit shouting, I’m telling a story to the kids..." Yu Jingting sauntered over, carrying his picture book and a chubby baby in his arms.
Bobo had already fallen asleep, but Luoluo was too energetic to sleep, so Jingting read Water Margin picture book to her.
The violent content only made the child more excited.
"We’ve barely managed to tear ourselves away from the ocean of knowledge. What do you need me for— oh, my!"
Yu Jingting was also taken aback at the sight of Jin Wa’s back. A look of surprise spread across his face.
Meanwhile, Jiaojiao who had been eavesdropping and feigning sleep in the small room couldn’t contain her curiosity any longer. Dressed in autumn clothing, she ran over to see what was going on.
The three men of the Yu Family were all wearing similar surprised expressions, while only Wang Cuihua appeared angry.
"Why does the birthmark on this kid’s body look exactly like the one on my brother’s?!" Jiaojiao pointed out that Jin Wa had the same heart-shaped birthmark on her back.
"Why don’t you undress and take a look at yourself? I bet yours is the same," Jingting said.
Jiaojiao crossed her arms, refusing to do so.
Her sister-in-law told her that she was already a young maiden, and nobody was allowed to see her undressed, not even her brother.
"There’s no need, Jiaojiao, we already have someone to check." Suizi brought her daughter over, lifted her shirt, and compared her back with Jin Wa’s.
The birthmarks on the two children were almost identical.
"Yu Shuisheng! What’s going on?! Is this child not really from another woman?! Why does he have a birthmark?!"
Wang Cuihua asked angrily.
Yu Shuisheng was puzzled. Exactly, why was there a birthmark?
It really wasn’t his doing, not at all!
