I am chasing a rough man in the 80s -
Chapter 49: Accept Justice
Chapter 49: Chapter 49: Accept Justice
Early in the morning, Wang Cuihua awoke from a pleasant dream.
There was a loud noise in the courtyard.
She lifted the curtain to look out. It wasn’t daybreak yet. Her good-for-nothing son, dressed in a green sweater and brandishing an axe, was cavorting around the courtyard.
Upon a closer look, he was chopping wood.
Wang Cuihua stormed over to him in a rage.
"What on earth are you doing so early in the morning?"
She suspected that the neighbours had also been woken up. They were probably cursing this boy under their breaths from the comfort of their beds.
Yu Jingting responded with a satisfied smile, clearly in a great mood.
Wang Cuihua broke out in goosebumps from his smile, rubbing her arms uneasily. What had come over her son? Why was he laughing so wildly?
Suizi came out holding a steaming bowl.
"Suizi, what’s got into him?"
Suizi’s face flushed slightly. She couldn’t possibly tell her mother-in-law that her impeccable service had left him so satisfied, he was swelling with pride, could she?
"He must have had a good dream," Suizi hastily offered an excuse.
"Ah, indeed, I dreamt of poetry and verses. Such wonderful poetry!"
Wang Cuihua noticed the bowl of egg soup in Suizi’s hands. She was just about to have her daughter-in-law go inside to drink it, fearing she might catch a chill, when Suizi handed the bowl to her son.
"Suizi, you could have it yourself. Isn’t it a waste to give it to him?"
As far as Wang Cuihua was concerned, it was enough to give this irrational boy a bowl of cooled boiled water. Why waste something as valuable as egg soup on him?
"It’s not a waste..." Suizi replied softly. Protein helps replenish protein.
"Don’t spoil him. These damned men will think they’re kings if they’re indulged—for goodness’ sake, he’s actually drinking it?" Wang Cuihua was at a loss for words.
Yu Jingting was certainly feeling full of himself right now, not merely over a bowl of egg soup.
Given a pair of invisible wings, he’d fly alongside the sun. Given a crowbar, he could lift the entire earth.
He understood why his wife had brought him a bowl of egg soup. The saying goes, ’one drop of semen is worth ten drops of blood.’ She was truly considerate of him.
His heart was melting because of Suizi. Though inwardly he was overjoyed, he maintained a stern expression on his face, trying to preserve his macho image.
"You did well. We should ’continue’ to strive next time." The emphasis was on the fact that there had to be a next time!
Suizi took the empty bowl from him and smiled softly.
The man who had been chopping wood all morning nearly dropped his axe when she smiled. His sense of happiness instantly overwhelmed him.
"You’re all laughing like pranksters..." Wang Cuihua was thinking of opening the front door when she saw a pile of items at the entrance, shocking her.
"Where did all these come from?"
There were several small baskets at the front door filled with eggs and sugar.
Wang Cuihua was dumbstruck.
It didn’t surprise Suizi. This must have been left by the parents of her students in the middle of the night.
No doubt there were many parents who wanted to thank Suizi and Yu Jingting for standing up to Yan Dagang the day before. No matter how much Yan Dagang swore at them, the parents would remember the kindness shown by Suizi and Yu Jingting.
The parents of the victims couldn’t voice their gratitude openly, so they expressed their thanks in the most rustic way possible.
"I’ll ask around later to see who might have dropped them."
While Wang Cuihua was quick to ask for gifts when doing favours for others, she was reluctant to accept unsolicited, unidentified largesse.
"Jingting did a good deed yesterday. This is everyone’s acknowledgment of him. Let’s keep it." Suizi looked at Yu Jingting, lavishing her praise upon him.
"You’re grateful when this boy doesn’t cause trouble. Could he really have been kindhearted?" Wang Cuihua eyed her son skeptically.
"He didn’t run out and steal these things, did he?" That sounded more like her good-for-nothing son.
"Let’s talk inside. Jingting was really tough."
With one compliment after another, Yu Jingting felt completely relaxed. From his expression, Suizi knew she had this round in the bag.
Yan Dagang deserved his punishment, but he had a physical disability and he wasn’t the real devil in the cornfield.
If that villain isn’t caught, the girls in the village won’t feel safe.
She needs to sincerely appreciate Yu Jingting, giving him the respect he deserves, then he’ll willingly cooperate with her to catch the devil in the cornfield.
Suizi went into the house and told her mother-in-law how Jingting had caught the criminal.
Based on Suizi’s observations, her mother-in-law was blunt, frugal for small matters but decisive for big ones. Telling her mother-in-law the details, she didn’t have to worry about her blabbing around.
"Serves him right! That old rascal tried to peep at me bathing by climbing over the wall years ago, but our big goose bit him, making him scream. This is retribution!"
Wang Cuihua listened, her blood was boiling, and she said to Jingting:
"You finally did something useful. But don’t be too proud, the credit goes to your wife. Without her, would you have been so enlightened?"
Wang Cuihua skipped over her no-good son and looked at Suizi with satisfaction.
No wonder her daughter-in-law was so well-behaved today. She was trying to straighten out that misfit son Tiegen.
Using softness to conquer hardness, Suizi played it well.
Wang Cuihua watched her clueless son who was being coaxed by Suizi and truly believed that this daughter-in-law was a worthwhile choice.
"A wise wife can bring prosperity for three generations. There’s hope for the Yu Family."
Wang Cuihua happily went to the kitchen to cook a reward for her daughter-in-law.
Suizi wanted to go and help, but Jingting caught her arm and leaned her against the wall, asking slyly:
"When’s our next poetry discussion? I think ’To Banish Official Han at Yangzhou’ is excellent, worth reviewing over and over."
The man who does not recognize all the characters actually memorized such a complex title. It seems he cherished the book quite a lot last night.
Suizi listens to him talking shamelessly and her head was getting hot, but for the sake of the old and young in the Wang house, she could only blush and whisper:
"I know many more, not just this one."
"Oh? Does the cultured lady have any other tricks?"
Jingting now found nothing more interesting than poetry, staring at her eagerly.
She saw Suizi stretch out her slender fingers and pulled the hem of his green turtleneck sweater.
"As long as you can catch that scoundrel in the cornfield, I’ll discuss ’Song of the Pipa Player’ with you."
Jingting rushed back to the west room at top speed, grabbed that addictive ’Three Hundred Tang Poems’ book. ’Song of the Pipa Player’, found it!
"Why is this old guy named Bai so slow?" Which part of this foot-binding-like poem was she talking about?
"Most of Bai Juyi’s poems are narrative, they are long because they tell a complete story. I will teach Jiaojiao to recite them all in the future. Look at the last line."
The last sentence, said in such a small voice.
Wang Cuihua cooked while listening to the young couple’s conversation, her jaw dropped.
She thought to herself, good grief!!!
Her unruly son was actually reading poetry voluntarily?!
"My dear, are you watching from up there? The Yu Family is going to prosper! Wang Cuihua dabbed the tears of excitement from her eyes, feeling the family’s future was bright."
One seed was about to sprout, no, two seeds. Suizi just mentioned she would teach Jiaojiao as well.
"Simapo of Jiangzhou turned his shirt green with... " As Jingting finished this sentence, remembering how she playfully tugged at his green sweater...
If he could endure that, he wouldn’t be a man.
He rolled up his sleeves and strode out.
The shameless scum in the cornfield who disgraced all men, get ready for justice!
This bastard, I have got you!
