Chapter 463: Chapter 463: Suizi Stands Against Five in a Verbal Battle with a Group of Shrews
There was a commotion outside, and Li’s mother led a group of her female relatives to storm the night school.
The Principal initially was standing in the yard playing with the dog with a pot of tea in his hand, upon seeing this scene, he did not dare to intervene and ran straight back into his office.
As a soon-to-be retiree, he always avoids troubles whenever possible.
Upon hearing that they came looking for Zhang Yue’e, Wang Mengmeng, noticing the aggressiveness in the group, knew something bad was going on and was amused.
"Oh, why are you guys looking for Zhang Yue’e, how did she offend you all?" Wang Mengmeng, relishing the misfortune of others, was eager to be the first one to find out what was going on.
In Wang Mengmeng’s perception, Zhang Yue’e is Chen Hansui’s number one loyal supporter, therefore, Zhang Yue’e’s misfortune would delight Wang Mengmeng immensely, so much so that she hoped the tension would escalate into a physical fight.
Indeed, a fight did happen, but the person taking the heat was not Zhang Yue’e but Wang Mengmeng.
Wang Mengmeng was pushed away by a woman beside Li’s mother and she collided with a wall, which took her by surprise.
"Why did you push me?!" Surprised and puzzled, she only wanted to spectate, not be involved!
"Anyone who sides with a vixen like her can’t be someone good", said the woman with thick lips who had just pushed Wang Mengmeng. She had a distinct and severe fierceness in her eyes, portraying her as someone not to be trifled with.
Having been wronged and unable to talk back, Wang Mengmeng ran all the way to Suizi’s office, crying while pushing open the door.
"Director, there are people creating a ruckus, and I was hit!"
Suizi may have disliked Wang Mengmeng, but that does not mean she would allow others to manhandle her subordinates in her territory.
Just as Suizi was about to step out, Li’s mother stormed in with her group of women.
There were five women, three middle-aged and two younger ones. The woman leading the group had a rather long face, somewhat making her seem like a neanderthal, was indeed, Li’s mother.
Zhang Yue’e recognized these women from the Li family and knew that they were Xiaoli’s aunts.
"Aunties, what brings you here?" asked Zhang Yue’e.
Wang Mengmeng hid behind Suizi and pointed at the woman who hit her:
"Director, she was the one who hit me."
Suizi shifted her gaze to the woman, who she instantly recognized as being different from the rest.
This woman had a ferocious look in her eyes, beside the ferocity, there was also an element of numbness, akin to the cold indifference of a carnivorous animal, a devoid of human emotions. Suizi could tell she needed to take a different approach, as the woman seemed to be driven more by primitive impulses than intellect.
"Ladies, this is our workplace. Let’s discuss the issue at hand and please do not disrupt my colleagues’ work. Yue’e, please brew some tea for us."
Suizi tried to usher Zhang Yue’e out of the room.
One older woman immediately blocked the door in a hostile manner.
"We can’t let this vixen go!"
"We are here today to report an incident. That woman," Li’s mother pointed at Zhang Yue’e in great agitation, "She has brought disaster upon my son! You need to give us answers, fire this woman, and never hire her again!"
"What happened to Xiaoli?!" Zhang Yue’e felt a sudden distress in her heart.
"In order to stay with this vixen, he openly defied his mother and ended up getting injured! My son is in a coma in the hospital right now!"
"Hold on, let’s clarify the logic here - how did he get injured?" Suizi focused on the pivotal point.
"He jumped out of the window and slipped, hitting his head on the ground."
"Xiaoli’s home is a single story house, right? Why would he jump out of the window instead of using the door?" Suizi continued with her inquiries.
"What kind of leader are you?! I asked you to deal with this vixen and you’re pulling me into all these irrelevant details?!" Li’s mother was boiling with indignation and humiliation.
Seeing how youthful Suizi looked, hardly twenty, she started questioning Suizi’s position.
"What exactly is your role here?"
"She is the Director of our office." Wang Mengmeng, eager to watch the drama unfold, introduced Suizi to the group, hoping a clash would ensue between Suizi and the Li family.
She wouldn’t mind seeing everyone at odds, as she harbors a grudge against them all.
"Such a young Director, huh. Your family must have offered a lot of bribes for you to get this position, didn’t they?" Li’s mother looked Suizi up and down, sneering scornfully.
"Summon your Principal here, as a mere director, you are not qualified to negotiate with me."
"8×××." Suizi recited a series of numbers.
"This is the phone number of our superior authority’s inspection department. If you have any complaints against me, feel free to report them through this number."
"As for summoning the Principal, I regret to inform you that he’s unavailable. If you wish to discuss, you’ll have to do it with me. If not, you’re welcome to visit some other day."
While not impolite in her manner, Suizi stood her ground and didn’t back down.
Seeing her tender-looking face but hearing the strong tone of her voice, the Li family members realized they couldn’t push her around. After exchanging looks among themselves, Li’s mother signaled everyone to sit down, crossing her legs intimidatingly to exert pressure on Suizi.
"You must fire this vixen today, or we are not leaving."
Hearing about Xiaoli’s incident, Zhang Yue’e was thrown into a panic. She wanted to speak up a few times, but was silenced by Suizi’s gaze.
Suizi rested her fingers elegantly in a steeple position, unfazed by Li’s mother’s bluster.
"There is no reason for me to fire an employee who has not erred in her duties."
"She almost caused the death of my son! Keeping such a calamitous woman in your school, aren’t you afraid of the misfortune she might bring?!"
Her statement hit a nerve with Zhang Yue’e. She burst into tears, unable to speak a word. Suizi could empathize with her feelings, it was like looking at her younger self.
In the past, she had been called a jinx countless times and was in turmoil, just like Yue’e is now.
"Our school promotes culture and believes in socialist atheism. What you just said is an outdated superstition, no one believes in that anymore."
"Stop rambling about useless stuff and just straight up tell me, are you firing her or not?" Li’s mother pointed at Zhang Yue’e.
"Director, why don’t I just——" Zhang Yue’e felt guilty and wasn’t sure if her ’ill-fated’ life had caused any harm to Xiaoli. She wanted to take the initiative to resign, so as to not add to Suizi’s dilemma.
"You keep quiet, opinions reserved." Looking at Zhang Yue’e, Suizi sighed at her naivety, she was so much like Suizi used to be.
Whenever faced with a problem, she would always introspect first. Too much kindness complemented by inadequate capability results in infinite pain.
"The school’s stance is very clear, we will not fire any employee who has not made any work errors. Although we sympathize with your son’s situation, the fact remains that you locked him up which led to the accident. It has nothing to do with Yue’e. Auntie, I advise you that there’s no shame in facing your own mistakes. Don’t accuse innocent people for your misdoings."
The Li family were taken aback by Suizi’s words.
Li’s mother had not shared the details about how Xiaoli fell, yet how did Director Suizi come to a conclusion that Li’s mother had locked the door?
"Xiaoli tried to convince you many times yesterday, but he could not get through to you due to your despotic attitude. You were unyielding and disagreed with his marriage, and took extreme measures by locking him up when he had to go to work. This resulted in him falling while attempting to climb out of the window. Auntie, your behavior has violated the 257th Criminal Law of obstructing freedom of marriage. It’s not too late to draw back before it’s too late."
