I am chasing a rough man in the 80s
Chapter 409: Avoid Suspicion in Delicate Situations

Chapter 409: Chapter 409: Avoid Suspicion in Delicate Situations

Suizi raised her hand, but only slightly to tuck her hair behind her ears.

Her calm demeanor starkly contrasted with Lun Lamei’s frantic panic.

"Lamei, I know what you’re up to. If I were you, I’d stop now and settle down to live with Su Zhe."

"What right do you have to meddle in my affairs!" Lamei was taken aback. Instead of slapping her, Suizi was advising her to live a good life, which immediately triggered her rebellious nature.

"Su Zhe is a man of real talent and learning. Although he may not share common ground with you, if you focus on living a good life, reform, repent, and take care of his life wholeheartedly, you can surely have a bright future."

Suizi spoke these words sincerely.

If such conciliatory words came from someone else, Lamei might listen to a sentence or two. But coming from Suizi, she sounded sarcastic.

Lamei thought that Suizi was mocking her.

"Chen Hansui, your life is better now, but you don’t have to make a mockery of me. Yes, your husband is successful, he’s the factory director, and you dress better than I do—"

Lamei looked at Suizi’s pearl necklace with envy. Such a necklace would take an ordinary person several months to afford.

And the clothes Suizi was wearing, especially her flared pants, were something Lamei had longed for.

Su Zhe’s mother was too tight-fisted, giving her only a small amount of money for groceries and not a penny more for spending.

"You’re standing there, lecturing me without a care in the world!" Convinced that Suizi had come to ridicule her, Lamei completely rejected Suizi’s words.

"Think it through, Su Zhe may seem down and out now, but he is a good person, with the integrity of an intellectual. If you treat him well now, he will not forget you when he rises. Reflect on Li Youcai. With his criminal record, it’s uncertain whether or not he can provide you with a future. Right now, he’s just using you. Once you’re worthless to him, he’ll kick you aside."

"Enough! Chen Hansui! After all the beating about the bush, your true intentions have finally surfaced! You’re plainly jealous that I can be with Brother Youcai. You want him even though you can’t have him, and you don’t want me to have him either!"

Lamei fell into a frenzied state, shrieking at Suizi.

Su Zhe’s mother in the courtyard heard everything clearly, the cold light in her triangular eyes was even more chilling.

Very well, this woman was obviously not one to lead a peaceful life.

"I’ve said what I had to say."

Suizi wasn’t surprised by Lamei’s reaction at all, everything was within her expectations.

This was how people like Lamei should be dealt with. If Suizi had told Lamei today that she was not good enough for Su Zhe and she should go with Li Youcai, Lamei would definitely have suspected that Suizi was playing the reverse psychology and might actually stay to harm Su Zhe.

However, if Suizi sincerely analyzed the future for her, Lamei would not want to be with Su Zhe, she would seek to leave the Su family as swiftly as possible.

By then, Su Zhe’s mother would not just stand by and watch her take the money and run - Suizi’s gaze fell on Su Zhe’s mother in the courtyard.

This old lady was no simpleton either. If Lamei thought she could manipulate everyone at will, she was sorely mistaken.

"Lamei, if I were you, I would start studying hard now to enrich myself. If you broaden your horizons, you will think bigger. If you had the slightest vision, you wouldn’t have your sights set on that piece of shit Li Youcai."

Suizi’s words were heartfelt. If Lamei could take even one sentence to heart, her future would be completely different.

"Have you finished showing off, Chen Hansui?!" Stung by Suizi, Lamei was at her wits’ end and tried to push Suizi.

Suizi gripped her wrist. She was much taller than Lamei, so it was difficult for Lamei to hit her.

Lamei felt her arm clamped tightly. Since when was Suizi this strong?

Just when she was distracted, Suizi pushed her away and, looking down from her height, said:

"Perhaps decades from now, you might remember what I said to you today. By then, I hope you won’t regret it."

That was Suizi’s real purpose for coming today.

Then, Suizi turned around. Yu Jingting had somehow appeared and he was holding her two sons, Little Luobo.

Suizi turned to him with a smile, taking one of the children off his hands to help lessen his load.

"What brought you here?"

"I just happened to be passing by."

"Worried that she’d scratch me?" Suizi playfully revealed his intentions, her eyes sparkling with laughter.

"It appears you didn’t get the worst end of it. Good. As a reward, here." Like pulling a rabbit out of a hat, Yu Jingting pulled out an ice cream from his pocket.

Suizi happily accepted it. It was cold and rich, so delicious.

This simple and ordinary happiness, in Lamei’s eyes, became deliberate flaunting. It angered Lamei so much that she ran all the way back home, cursing Suizi as she went.

"Sooner or later, you’ll be crippled by street thugs, damn it!"

"It’s like casting pearls before swine. There’s no way I could convince her to see the light," Suizi sighed softly as she watched Lamei’s stubbornly unrepentant figure retreating.

Yi Jingting chuckled.

"You never intended to let her live a good life, did you?"

Suizi darted an ice cream to his lips and blinked mischievously.

"You think you can shut me up with food?" Yu Jingting retaliated by taking a big bite, savoring it with satisfaction amidst Suizi’s pained expression and the drooling gazes of their two sons.

"But you, this cunning little woman, came all this way through thick and thin. There must be something more than just trading barbs with Lamei, right?"

Suizi nodded.

"I earnestly advised her a lot today. Even though she can’t hear a single word right now, in a few years, when she’s down on her luck, she’ll definitely remember what I said today. Every word will be a heavy blow to her heart."

It was like a bomb, planted many years in advance.

For the rest of Lamei’s life, every time she hit rock bottom, she would remember today and regret the choices she made.

But life is often like this, with the people in the field being blind to reality. When they wake up, it’s too late for regrets.

"But sometimes, I also harbor fantasies, hoping that she and people like Li Youcai would reflect on their actions."

They could still mend their ways, but the problem was, bad people never thought about turning back, unless the road ahead was completely blocked; otherwise, they would continue on their way to darkness.

"You intellectuals always harbor unrealistic fantasies." Yu Jingting thought she was telling fairy tales.

"Speaking of intellectuals, there is something I’d like to ask for your help with."

"Hmm?"

"I met Lamei’s husband, Su Zhe, today. I think it’s a pity..."

Warning bells started ringing in Yu Jingting’s mind. She was openly praising another man. Was she looking for trouble?

"I originally wanted to persuade him, but I have to avoid any suspicion."

Given the societal norms, it was inappropriate for a woman like her to frequently visit a married man’s house.

"At least you have some sense. So, what do you need my help with?"
