Chapter 376: Chapter 376: A Thief in the House (650+ Monthly Tickets More)
As far as Yu Jingting believed, Fourth Uncle’s hesitant "you’ve grown this big" was high praise for his stature.
This put him in a mood of envy and vanity.
While discussing it, he made sure to throw in a bit of swagger.
"There’s no need to feel so inferior. I think his–"
He was about to say ’not small either’, then realized it wasn’t suitable to say to Suizi, and choked back the words.
But he saw Suizi deep in thought, while Yu Jingting frowned.
"What are you thinking about?"
Hopefully not about that old man’s physique. Where could he be superior to me?
Who in the world could compete with me?
"You just said, Father-in-law’s head, was abnormal after hitting the tiles?"
Suizi’s eyes went wide. Could it be what she was thinking?
The question is, one moment he was having a fun time with Yu Jingting, then immediately turned strange, then the next ran away, there could only be one explanation–
"Jingting, I suspect, our father has remembered."
"Remember what? Are you doing a storytelling session here?" Yu Jingting felt Suizi’s statement was nonsense.
"Under those conditions he was in, constant fights, hitting his head countless times, he didn’t remember in the past ten years, and washing with me made him remember?"
"It seems too coincidental, but it is logically possible. Because he saw our mother, and it was a mental shock. Mother told me, he could vaguely remember some things. With a little external force, he remembered."
This is the result of the combination of internal and external factors.
"So, he remembered and didn’t come back to coax our old lady, what’s the use of running?"
"I don’t know about that..."
Suizi was also puzzled. The situation regarding father-in-law was truly baffling.
If he fled because he couldn’t remember, it would be understandable. After all, a heap of relatives had appeared overnight, including grandchildren.
But if he fled even after remembering, that would be unthinkable.
"Let’s not overthink it. Let’s get some sleep. Tomorrow, I’ll inquire in the Guest House and bring him out for thorough questioning." Yu Jingting still didn’t believe his father had remembered.
Suizi agreed with Yu Jingting. In fact, deep down, she had thought of several disastrous plans.
If father-in-law didn’t want to come back or if he deliberately escaped due to some attachment, she had pondered about ways to minimize the risk and reduce mother-in-law’s pain as much as possible.
She always tends to think of the worst case scenario when encountering problems. But this time, she was wrong again.
While Yu Jingting and Suizi had already fallen asleep, Wang Cuihua was tossing and turning.
Her mouth felt bitter; she had a heaty body.
She got up looking for some detox pills to swallow, feeling clogged up after eating, she left the house to look at the moon in the Courtyard.
On the deep autumn night, the moon hung high in the sky, just like the night her husband left home. She looked up at the sky, wondering when he would return.
A decade had passed in a blink of an eye. The person had returned, but he left again without even eating a meal. She wondered when she would see him again.
Suizi happened to get up to go to the toilet and saw her mother-in-law standing in the Courtyard. The silhouette of her mother-in-law looking at the moon seemed extremely lonely.
"Today’s people have seen the moon of yesteryears, today’s moon has once shone upon old people..." Suizi blurted.
Wang Cuihua’s thoughts, in the mouth of a cultured person, summarized to this phrase, couldn’t be more fitting.
In one corner of the collapsed goose pen, Tiebing and Tieqiu were huddling together. As they noticed Wang Cuihua coming, the two geese began to quack.
Looking at these two geese, Wang Cuihua felt sad and whispered:
"Thanks to you two while the ghost is not at home. Now you are both old too, I don’t know how long you can live, and if any thieves come, whether or not you can protect the house–"
No sooner had the words fallen out of her mouth, she saw a hand appear above the wall!
Wang Cuihua was taken aback and stepped back. Fortunately, she was used to outlandish occurrences, so instead of fear, her first reaction was to turn back and go into the house.
And she almost ran into Suizi.
"Mother, what’s the matter?" Suizi asked.
"Quickly ask Tiegen to get up, it’s serious, there’s a thief!"
Wang Cuihua said with a lowered voice.
Scared, Suizi scampered into the house and woke Yu Jingting.
"Darling, did you miss me?" Yu Jingting teased with closed eyes.
"What are you talking about? Get up, there is a robbery in the house!"
Yu Jingting leaped out of bed, fully alert at the news.
Under the moonlight, a black shadow climbed onto the wall. He gestured to the geese in the pen to keep quiet, but they took no notice and were about to peck him.
The shadow was nimble, jumping off and landing with a graceful curve, and then turning to say something to the geese. Suddenly, everything went dark.
Yu Jingting, lying in ambush at the side, managed to capture the intruder with a sack swiftly.
Just by this action alone, one could tell that he had a lot of experience with capturing people.
After bagging, he directly tied the top, hoisted the sack on his shoulder, walked inside and threw the sack down. Yu Jingting scoffed:
"Blind thing, didn’t you figure out whose house this is? You broke into my house to steal chickens and dogs, aren’t you asking to die?"
"Grass! You little rascal! You’re addicted to bagging, aren’t you?!" A muffled curse came from the sack.
Yu Jingting’s face froze. Suizi covered her mouth.
Good guy, another splendid act!
"So this is not about stealing things, but stealing... people?"
Suizi murmured under her breath, looking sideways at mother-in-law. She was right, the man in the sack was the Fourth Uncle.
Fourth Uncle removed the sack from his head, finding a mouthful of dirt, he spat twice, eating a whole mouthful of dirt.
"What kind of sack is this?"
"Eh, it’s the bag that Jingting brought back from the jade gambling market, all original– didn’t you taste the flavor of loess and stone chips from the second hometown?"
Suizi joked casually, causing Fourth Uncle to burst out laughing.
His daughter-in-law is truly a brave woman. She never speaks out of turn, and every time she does, it’s spot on. She’s smart and always uses her head.
"No, old man, do you have a problem? You don’t use the main entrance to enter your own home, but climb the wall?" Yu Jingting tried to turn the tables by questioning, trying to hide his embarrassment of bagging his own father.
"If I entered through the main entrance and was seen, then what? Damn boy, can’t you be gentler? Ah... my stomach... Huahua, it hurts..."
While talking, he looked at Wang Cuihua pitifully.
Suizi felt goosebumps all over. Father-in-law was about the same height as Jingting, a big man of 180 cm, strong, and full of vitality... acting like a spoiled brat?
"Yes, Tiegen is right. You sneak into your own house, you deserve the punishment. Let me see if you’re injured..." Wang Cuihua showed concern, but something seemed off. "What did you call me?"
"Huahua, I remembered."
Suizi had been practicing being prepared. In response to her father-in-law’s return and revelation, her first reflex was to shoot up to her mother-in-law’s side, ready to support Wang Cuihua.
Such a big shock, mother-in-law is sure to faint, right?
As expected, Wang Cuihua was staggering, Suizi was supporting her, but she pushed Suizi away, rushing to Fourth Uncle.
"You really remember?"
