I am chasing a rough man in the 80s -
Chapter 372: Accepting Happily
Chapter 372: Chapter 372: Accepting Happily
Siye, who was basking in the joy of finding out that the beautiful woman was his daughter-in-law and the sweet girl was his granddaughter, was awakened by the chilling reality from Suizi’s "rebellious" information.
Siye reined in his smile, clearing his throat.
"Are you sure it’s not a case of mistaken identity? There’re so many similar-looking people in the world, right?"
Despite Suizi’s serious point, she couldn’t help but want to laugh at her father-in-law’s entangled expression.
Suizi wondered how much of a deep psychological imprint Jingting left on Siye with his rebellious behavior. Siye’s face, normally resembling a pallor of cement, was now filled with loathing for Jingting.
"Both my husband and Jiaojiao have a heart-shaped birthmark on their backs. Mother said it’s inherited from their father," she explained.
Siye, greatly shaken, took a step back.
It seemed like he couldn’t quite accept the "buy two, get one free" arrangement. A daughter-in-law and a granddaughter, both of which he liked, but why was there a rebellious child included?
This was the same rebellious child who intentionally left a note stating that he was a rebel against his own father!
Siye was still unaware that he had happily accepted this family setup Suizi proposed, engrossed in his rich imagination.
"Did you send Jiaojiao with me?" Siye asked.
"Yes, mother had a sketch of you. Therefore, our whole family, including Jiaojiao, is capable of recognizing you," she replied.
Siye’s heart warmed up as he thought about how Jiaojiao had earlier taken money from her piggy bank to buy him a fried cake.
Unable to accept the child’s money, he tried to pay for it himself. However, Jiaojiao had adamantly refused, insisting on treating him.
With this, he realized that the child must already know who he was and was expressing her affection for her father in her own way.
"Where’s Jiaojiao?" Suizi asked.
"She said she needed to go to the toilet so I took her to a public one. But in the blink of an eye, that same rebellious child came up and started beating up my subordinate," Siye replied.
When Siye saw his men being beaten, he decided to leave Jiaojiao at the side of the road to handle the situation.
Who would have thought that Jingting would be strong enough to overpower Siye, a formidable figure, and put a trashcan over his head?
"It’s alright, Jiaojiao knows her way around. She should be able to find her way back," Suizi comforted.
Since there were not many cars around and the city center wasn’t that big, a child of Jiaojiao’s age should have no difficulty making her way around.
"Xiaoliu will bring her here. You don’t have to worry about safety—" As Siye mentioned Xiaoliu, his face became solemn.
Feeling that something was off, Suizi was about to ask, but then Jingting came out.
"Mother’s awake," he announced.
Siye’s gaze shifted from Suizi to Jingting, scrutinizing him intently.
During their previous heated scuffle, Siye hadn’t gotten a good look at Jingting.
He initially thought that Jingting was merely a hoodlum with no good intentions.
However, upon hearing that Jingting was, in fact, his own flesh and blood, Siye’s perception changed dramatically.
This tall guy, he reminded him of himself.
Jingting’s resilient disposition also mirrored his own.
Although his facial features resembled his mother, upon closer inspection, he could see traces of himself.
The more he looked, the more Siye found himself satisfied, as if he was playing a game of spot the similarity.
"Old man, you broke our glass window, didn’t you?" Jingting prodded, striking a nerve in Siye.
"You little brat, who are you calling an old man?" Siye retorted.
"Hey, it’s just a name. I even call my mother the old lady," Jingting responded lightly, trying to downplay the incident where he placed a trashcan on his father’s head.
"I might have just offended you, and yeah, you smashed our window, so let’s call it even."
"You brat, how do you know I smashed the window?" Siye tried to wriggle his way out of admitting it, hoping to regain some dignity here.
Thud.
The slingshot he had tucked in his belt fell out. The hook must have come loose during his fight with Jingting.
Suizi and Jingting’s eyes fell on the object on the floor, prompting a soft sigh from Suizi.
"Like father like son indeed – the habit of smashing other people’s windows," she remarked.
"How are we the same? I use a ball bearing. Would he be able to find a ball bearing?" Siye retorted.
At his response, both Suizi and Jingting burst into laughter. Even Siye found himself laughing along with them.
Laughter is a magical thing. It can defuse awkwardness, unfamiliarity, even antagonism.
With this shared laugh, the gap between them suddenly felt much smaller.
"Mother probably has many questions for you. Why don’t you go in and chat? Afterwards, I’ll take you to the bathhouse so as not to risk the smell of you fainting her," Jingting suggested.
Siye attempted a light kick at Jingting, only to retract his leg after noticing the jovial glint in his eyes, gruffly huffing:
"Think about who was the ’rabbit’ who first started and who covered me all over...like a stupid – silly roe deer."
Siye originally wanted to say a derogatory term he would typically use in his subculture. But seeing the genteel Suizi beside Jingting, while remembering the beautiful woman in the house who instantly warmed his heart, he swallowed his crass words right back.
"Be yourself at home, it’s okay. Even though we’ve lost contact over the years, you’ve still managed to leave a strong influence on the family’s style," Suizi suggested, giving her father-in-law a subtle hint.
Siye nodded satisfactorily, interpreting her comment about ’family style’ as a reference to his decisive and assertive personality.
Little did Siye know that Suizi’s "family style" actually referred to everyone having a knack for getting into fights and a tendency to cuss around like unrivalled masters.
"Don’t talk too much with these emotionally fragile women. A short cry is enough, we still need to take the time to go to the bathhouse," Jingting commented, thus perfectly illustrating the concept of "family style".
Just as Siye was about to erupt, Suizi quickly intervened, remarking, "Jingting’s just concerned that you won’t be able to hold the babies later."
With Siye smelling as he currently did, like rotten watermelon, the children would be sure to cry uncontrollably. They definitely couldn’t let him hold them in his current state.
"Babies? Ah, right, you’ve just given birth so that means... I’m a grandfather?!"
Discovering he has a complete family and that his daughter-in-law is extremely beautiful (in his unilateral judgment) followed by the information he is now a grandfather, all of these happened in a flash.
Siye suddenly felt that being contained in the trashcan was worth it after all.
"Yes, Jingting and I have genetwin boy and girl, and they just turned one hundred days old."
Hit by wave after wave of wonderful surprises, Siye was overjoyed and quickly headed towards the house.
Before going in, he took off his coat, dampened a towel to clean his face, making sure he looked more decent before he dared to step into Wang Cuihua’s room.
Seeing all this, Suizi let out a sigh of relief.
Although the process had some twists and turns, the outcome was still gratifying.
"Mother must be very happy, right?" Suizi looked at Jingting, only to discover a tinge of redness in his eyes.
Realizing that Suizi was paying attention, Jingting tried to conceal his emotions, pulling out a cigarette from his pocket to lighten the mood, saying:
"You women are so emotional, it’s just a small matter, why all the fuss?"
He took a puff of the cigarette and started coughing:
"This rubbish calcium oxide cigarette, it’s stinging my eyes!"
He grumbled, with tears welling up in his eyes!
Suizi gave out a small chuckle - whatever you say it is, I’m just glad that you’re happy.
Jiaojiao came running from the end of the road, crying as she ran, with Xiaoliu behind her.
"Brother, something’s wrong!" she cried out.
