I am chasing a rough man in the 80s -
Chapter 344: Predicted Your Prediction
Chapter 344: Chapter 344: Predicted Your Prediction
Someone from the Tobacco Factory came.
Yu Jingting returned several days ago, and as soon as he came back, he accompanied Suizi in childbirth. After things on Suizi’s end were settled, he went to report to the factory.
However, the factory leaders weren’t there due to business trips, which delayed things until now.
With such a major accident, the factory was kept busy these days.
Yu Jingting, as the only survivor, gave the factory director a glimmer of hope.
The factory director spoke with Yu Jingting in the East Room while Suizi and her mother entertained the baby in the West Room.
"Aren’t you curious about what they’re discussing?" asked Chen Lijun.
Suizi was changing her baby’s diaper, she didn’t even lift her head.
"What else could they talk about? They want him to give false testimony."
Anyone could have guessed that this would happen.
Previously, there was no counter-evidence in death, they could say anything they wanted. Suddenly, a survivor emerged, the Factory Director definitely wanted to align their narrative with Yu Jingting before being questioned by higher-ups.
The most likely scenario was that they wanted Yu Jingting to declare those coworkers had left their team without authorization, better yet to claim that those people sought illegal gains which caused the accident.
"Weren’t they previously promising to resolve your housing issue?"
The underlying meaning of Chen Lijun’s words is: follow the factory’s plan, blame those others, and receive a promotion, salary raise and a house.
If you don’t cooperate, the promised house will be gone, and even your job might be suspended.
The factory director is bound to be transferred, yet a dying centipede won’t fall down easily. Using Yu Jingting as a scapegoat on his way out would be easy.
On one hand lie conscience, on the other benefits, Chen Lijun is quite curious about which one Yu Jingting will choose.
"Our family doesn’t need that extra set of housing. We can do without the ones built on the tears of our colleagues."
Suizi’s view pleased Chen Lijun.
"It’s commendable that you think this way. However, in the next couple of years, Jingting may need to keep a low profile."
To keep a low profile is an euphemism for not expecting promotion or salary raise.
"Sometimes taking larger steps isn’t better. A bit of restraint can also be a form of cultivation. As long as Jingting comes back alive, I ask for nothing more."
Suizi sighed.
That one of your own could survive a disaster is certainly a cause for celebration.
Following Wang Cuihua’s suggestion, they wanted to hold a feast to celebrate, respecting local customs that demand a banquet be held for friends and relatives when someone survives a major disaster.
You see, Suizi was hesitant about this, and Yu Jingting immediately declined it.
Yu Jingting returned alive, but other people were unfortunate and perished, how would the hearts of the bereaved feel if the survivors celebrated excessively here on their side?
"Jingting has--in fact--changed quite a bit these past six months."
Although he still speaks irreverently and behaves unpredictably, Chen Lijun thought he had matured.
"After all, he’s a father now, he has to set an example for the kids. Jingting is a character, but he’s never been ambiguous when it comes to principles. He is the wise man in my heart."
Suizi began to sing praises for her husband again.
"Have you heard, ’the wise don’t fall in love, only the foolish are trapped by love’?" Not to be outdone, Chen Lijun swiftly countered Suizi, disrupting her praising.
Suizi made an unusually frustrated expression, her mother had delivered a devastating blow. She was at a loss for words.
Ever since she learned how to quarrel with Yu Jingting, she had memorized countless sharp retorts. However, she had been unprepared for her mother’s comments and was momentarily stumped.
Her mother’s question was way beyond the scope.
Chen Lijun watched Suizi’s stunned expression, a corner of her mouth turned upwards. She patted Suizi’s head lightly twice with the anti-smoking fan that Suizi gave her.
"May you be wise in love and always hold on to the fool in your palm, like I have."
Suizi was still in a daze, unable to come up with a good rebuttal but she felt something was wrong with her mother’s comment.
"I don’t want to be like you."
"Hmm, I thought the same when I was twenty."
"I think everything you say seems to make sense, but when combined, it just doesn’t feel right. It’s a fallacy."
Suizi was still contemplating a rebuttal when the conversation in the East Room ended.
From the sound of the considerable force with which the factory director slammed the door, the conversation definitely didn’t end in consensus.
Just as Suizi had predicted, the factory director hoped that Yu Jingting would claim to the outside world that those workers had violated the itinerary, had arbitrarily gone to gamble on stones, changed the existing driving route, leading to the accident.
Yu Jingting didn’t respond, he just gestured at the lightbulb, leaving the factory director puzzled. What did he mean?
"When you want to spew bullshit against your conscience, stand away from the lamp. You wouldn’t want it falling and cracking your head open."
Only then did the scene of the factory director storming out occur.
Yu Jingting stood on the steps with a cigarette, watching the factory director’s car drive away. He muttered:
"Look at that dumbass."
This was the most pleasant curse Suizi had ever heard.
Chen Lijun left Suizi’s house a week later.
It was quite uncommon for her to obtain such a long leave from work.
Worried that Suizi would feel upset watching her leave, she chose to leave when Suizi was asleep. Yu Jingting drove her to the train station.
"Why are you taking so many persimmons?"
Chen Lijun pointed at the bag that Yu Jingting had handed her. It must weigh at least a dozen pounds.
Inside were all oil bottle-shaped persimmons from the north, golden yellow in colour and elongated like oil bottles, hence the name.
"They’re homegrown, my mother said you love them and you won’t get them there. There are also a few melons."
"Alright. Thank her for me. I’m going to leave our daughter in your care. Don’t let her gain any more weight."
"She’s not fat now," Yu Jingting said, correcting her in all seriousness.
He never thought Suizi was fat, at most she was a bit plump, which was the best representation of family wealth.
Chen Lijun waved her hand, not wanting to hear these lovebirds flaunt their affection.
After getting on the train, Chen Lijun opened the bag; the clear scent of persimmons mixed with the sweet smell of melon weighed heavily with simplicity.
Recalling Suizi’s previous habit stuffing money into her food, Chen Lijun instinctively went through the bag.
"This fat girl wouldn’t have stuffed money in...again?"
Spots on.
It was not money, but a note.
Chen Lijun recognized the handwriting at a glance.
It was Suizi’s.
The Bodhi has no tree, The mirror also has no stand. If there is really nothing, Where is the dust to alight?
There was also a picture of a kitchen knife on the edge of the note.
Chen Lijun studied the note for quite a while and then exploded into laughter.
Chen Lijun had previously used the phrase "the wise do not fall in love" to caution Suizi, warning her not to be constrained by love in order to achieve great things.
Chen Lijun’s idea of perfection was demonstrated by her own example, using others’ feelings as stepping stones to her own success.
But Suizi disagreed with her point of view.
Suizi wasn’t good at arguing on the spot, but given time, she could sort things out and clarify her thinking.
This phrase from the Buddhist scriptures was Suizi’s reply after several days of consideration.
Being enamoured and trapped by love could certainly lead to suffering, but it’s not the love itself that is the problem.
The knife drawn in the note was to tell Chen Lijun that although a knife can be used to chop vegetables or harm people, the knife itself is not at fault.
Suizi was not willing to be an unfeeling person, let alone use Yu Jingting as a weapon.
"Who does this fat girl take after, why’s she so stubborn...eh?"
Chen Lijun turned the note over. There was another line of text on the back, as if she had predicted what Chen Lijun would say.
