Chapter 334: Chapter 334: Where did the ’rice flower boy’ come from? (Thanks to Shu Yue’er+ Update)

"Jingting, I really want to cry..."

These whisperings in Suizi’s dream came out choked with sobs.

Pitiably wronged, utterly miserable.

The repressed little whimpers only dared to emerge in her dreams.

The whisperings touched Wang Cuihua’s heart, making her cover Suizi with a quilt as she stared blankly at the moon for half the night.

To evade the auspicious timing, Suizi insisted that the entire family not leave the dormitory, with food brought back by Liao Yong.

The whole family stayed hidden behind closed curtains in the room. Even the other occupiers of the dormitory were clueless as to who lived there - it was all so mysterious.

Three days can be either very short or very long.

During these three days, Suizi completely cut off contact with the outside world, oblivious to what was happening.

To prevent anyone from finding her, she and Wang Hui stopped communicating, in case someone on the other side found her.

Once she got through these three days, she could go out to give birth, making it pointless for those people to come after her.

Just like that, the third day arrived.

According to the prediction by Teacher Wang, this was the first of the auspicious dates. Suizi awoke in the early morning and instantly felt that something was wrong.

For the past couple of days, she had been feeling a constant weight in her stomach and noticed decreased fetal movement.

Today there was a sense of emptiness in her abdomen. She saw some bleeding when she went to the toilet at the hospital.

All these signs indicated that she might be about to give birth.

By tomorrow, she would be full term at 37 weeks. It would be normal for her to give birth to twins a bit early, it wouldn’t count as premature birth.

What troubled Suizi and her family was the timing chosen by the baby.

The Fan Family only thought about the time of birth for a cesarean section.

Births by cesarean section, deliberately chosen to align with an auspicious date and time, are controversial in terms of determining the baby’s destiny, even among Feng Shui Masters.

But a natural birth always comes with an undeniably good destiny.

Suizi herself was uncertain when the twins were going to be born.

Each day has twelve two-hour periods, and only a fleeting moment within them is truly lucky. Her babies might not be born right at that moment. But the fact that she started bleeding at this critical juncture, what if the Fan family found out about this?

The auspicious time and date, hence eagerly sought after by others, had become a cause of restraint and shackles for Suizi.

However, bearing the fruits of nature’s process, she had no control over when her babies would choose to make their entrance to the world.

Now since she was experiencing bleeding loss, she needed to go to the hospital.

"Suizi, pack your things, let’s go to the hospital," Wang Cuihua suggested anxiously. This baby came sooner than they anticipated.

"No, I can’t go." Suizi laid flat on the bed. At this moment, she felt no pain and appeared just as she normally did.

It was five in the morning, and it was still dark outside.

"If we’re not going to the hospital, what are we doing? Haven’t you already given red envelopes to the doctors at the maternity hospital," Wang Cuihua remembered her daughter-in-law had made arrangements in advance.

"Going now might mean walking into a trap--Mom, get a midwife here."

Upon hearing these words Wang Cuihua drew a sharp breath.

"You want to give birth at home?!"

It was not uncommon for home births at that time, especially in the village, where most people sought out midwives to assist with the delivery at home.

However, since Suizi was expecting twins, the risks involved were higher than a singleton’s pregnancy. A midwife might be ill-equipped to handle any sudden complications.

"We’re not far from the maternity hospital here. If the midwife can’t handle it, they can rush me there in time."

Suizi wouldn’t willingly take such a risk if she hadn’t been forced to.

If the baby chose to be born at that incredibly lucky moment, then they would always be a target for the Fan Family.

She did not believe in these superstitious beliefs, yet she couldn’t control those who did.

To permanently solve her children’s future security issues, Suizi had come up with a foolproof plan, in which the first step was having a home birth and concealing the babies’ actual birth time.

They had no other choice.

Despite disagreeing with Suizi’s decision, Wang Cuihua could only follow what Suizi said and went to look for a midwife.

Just after daybreak, Wang Cuihua found the midwife and brought her over.

The midwife came and examined Suizi, telling them that she wasn’t going to give birth straight away.

Thinking about it, since there was still plenty of time, Wang Cuihua decided to go to the restaurant at the entrance and ask to use their kitchen to cook Suizi some soup.

Suizi was chatting idly with the midwife while Jiaojiao drew nearby.

"Why did you run all the way here to give birth, Miss? Your husband—" The midwife, a rather gossipy woman, lowered her voice.

" Did your husband get into trouble?"

Jiaojiao, who was drawing at the time, threw her pen down onto the table in response.

"What the hell are you talking about? My brother is a great person. He has so many merit banners that he could fill a whole wall!"

The midwife was scared into silence by Jiaojiao’s vehement defence, stopping her questions but her face remained full of curiosity.

After a while, she asked Suizi again.

"Where’s your husband then?"

"He’s on a business trip."

The midwife looked Suizi up and down, noticing how spartan the dormitory was, without even a table. They only had chairs to substitute as tables for meals, which led the midwife to conclude that Suizi’s family might be in financial trouble.

"Well, I’ve been a midwife for many years, my experience is much richer compared to the doctors at the maternity hospital, but I’m much cheaper...So, even though I don’t charge much, could you pay me in advance?"

Suizi frowned slightly.

"Didn’t my mother-in-law give you the money when she came?"

The midwife stammered, talking about getting a good omen by getting paid in advance, conveniently avoiding the topic of whether Wang Cuihua had actually paid her.

Suizi grasped the situation. It seemed that the midwife, seeing Suizi alone with a kiddo, thought Suizi was easy to fool and wanted to charge double.

The thought made Suizi feel sick. Running into such a person while giving birth was truly vexing. The money itself wasn’t much; a few dollars would solve the problem.

But being manipulated by someone while giving birth was not a pleasant feeling.

This situation, in the end, was a result of her own machinations. She spent so much time figuring out how to confront and deceive the Fan Family, but she never considered the possibility that her babies might decide to come out today, not giving her enough time to find a new midwife in advance.

"Please wait until my mother-in-law gets back."

Suizi had already decided to look for a new midwife. She currently did not feel any discomfort in her abdomen, so she wasn’t going into labour yet. She figured she could pay off this midwife when her mother-in-law came back.

Seeing that Suizi refused to discuss the money issue, the midwife’s attitude became more assertive.

Sitting there, incessantly talking rubbish, she first asked about Suizi’s husband’s job, then began to ask where Jiaojiao attended school.

Her non-stop prattle annoyed Suizi.

"Jiaojiao, come here," Suizi called Jiaojiao over, whispered a few words in her ear, to which Jiaojiao nodded.

"It’s so hot, and since my sister-in-law isn’t going to give birth just yet, I’ll take you out to buy some popsicles."

The midwife delightfully went out with Jiaojiao. As soon as they left, Jiaojiao locked the door from the inside.

"We’re not giving birth anymore. Go back where you came from!"

The midwife was so furious she felt like kicking the door just as Liao Yong’s coworker came back.

Seeing the one in uniform, the midwife didn’t dare to make any more trouble, she could only slink away.

Muttering grievances to herself as she walked.

"A bunch of poor folk! Who would ever come to a police station to give birth? And she’s pregnant with twins, tsk, such a waste to have such a beautiful face!"

The words "twins" and "beautiful" drifted to the ears of a weary-looking man. His heart racing, the man paused.

"What did you just say?"

"I just took on a terrible job-- Hey, where did this beggar come from?"
