Chapter 273: Everyone’s Talking About Your Family’s Affairs
Chapter 273: Chapter 273: Everyone’s Talking About Your Family’s Affairs
Wang Hui approached Suizi and her husband with somewhat of a hidden agenda.
Operating on her own wasn’t suitable, as her retail store was in competition with these small vendors.
However, the business-savvy Wang Hui felt the tides of change fast approaching and couldn’t bear to miss out on this opportunity.
She had access to supply sources that others couldn’t obtain.
Suizi and Yu Jingting were starting to make a name for themselves locally, and with Jingting’s car and manpower, they were guaranteed to turn a profit if they agreed to form a partnership.
Her concern was whether Suizi could swallow her pride.
Unexpectedly, Suizi was even more eager than she was.
Right there in the alleyway, the three of them settled their business plans - in actuality, it was just the two, Suizi and Wang Hui.
Yu Jingting got silenced by Suizi.
Every time he tried to intervene, Suizi would shut him up with her "bird language".
Trying to save face for him, Wang Hui was under the impression from start to end that Suizi’s "bird language" was meant to praise Jingting.
Both families were proactive - they started their business almost immediately.
The very next day after finalizing their plans, Jingting drove his tractor to transport Suizi and Wang Hui to source their goods from the countryside.
On their journey, Wang Hui teased Suizi.
"Did you guys find a solution about the shoe-tying issue?"
"We did, I got my mother-in-law to make a pair of shoes that don’t need tying."
A problem that could have been easily solved by a pair of slippers, didn’t need such a massive fuss to be kicked up.
Wang Hui believed this incident would somehow tickle her funny bone for many years to come.
Eventually, she even shared this story with her daughter, making everyone around Jingting know that he was overly indulgent to his wife when he was young, almost missing out on the opportunities brought about by economic reform due to such a trivial shoe-tying issue.
Wang Hui took Suizi and her husband to the factory that supplied goods to the store, where they were directly able to pick up their products from the warehouse.
The abundance of factory’s productions had led to an oversupply in the past couple of years, and the warehouse was stocked full of goods. Some items were even gnawed on by mice, but with careful picking, many useful items could be salvaged.
All these items were considered as damaged goods and written off, so there would be no audits.
With Wang Hui there, the cost of acquiring the goods dropped to an unimaginable low; Jingting’s vehicle was packed full.
It wasn’t just Suizi’s group who were quick-witted, there were others with connections who came to collect the goods as well.
Several tricycles were parked at the factory entrance.
Suizi stood by and observed for a while, and she already had a judgment in her mind.
Wang Hui had told them that no one else could get the supply source, but now it seemed that there were more people with connections who could access it, not only Wang Hui. The person in charge of this factory couldn’t be counted as reliable.
Being reckless in casting a wide net, it was Wang Hui who was deceived.
The people collecting the goods were so numerous that sooner or later, there would be a problem. But for now, it did seem to be profitable.
If they wanted to make money on the long term, they couldn’t rely solely on this.
"Sister, where does your store source its books from?"
"You want to sell books? Our books are distributed from other cities, if you are interested, I can help you get in touch when I get back."
Upon hearing Suizi’s plans of selling books, Wang Hui admired her, deeming her a cultivated person who chose to sell culturally rich items when it came to business.
After returning, Suizi made a list of books consisting mainly of novels that she found interesting.
As people’s demand for spiritual and leisurely reading were high at this stage, selling books was definitely a good idea.
Yu Jingting also looked at her list of books, with a frown on his face.
When Suizi wasn’t paying attention, he added a few books to the list, ones that he thought would be a hit in the market.
Although he couldn’t read all of the characters, he knew what kinds of things men liked. The key was that the book covers had to be appealing.
When Wang Hui saw the titles Jingting added, she was impressed by his business acumen but also wanted to tease him...
"Would your wife allow this if she knew about it?"
It was remarkable for Teacher Suizi, always so serious, to tolerate her husband running a roadside stall, but would she explode if she saw these types of books being sold?
"It’s men’s business, she doesn’t need to worry about it." Jingting responded with extreme masculinity, pretending he had a high status at home.
Yet he was sneering in his heart.
Pshh, clearly Wang Hui didn’t have the slightest clue about his wife’s hobbies.
If it wasn’t for Suizi’s box of handwritten notebooks which had inspired him, how could he understand the "rich" spiritual world of these cultured individuals?
His wife, an inexperienced young girl, surprisingly knew about so many curious foreign objects - isn’t this the benefit brought by knowledge?
Dispensing knowledge, what a meaningful deed! Indeed, he was a promising young man.
Jingting’s street bookstand took off like wildfire.
While Suizi was still lounging in bed, he and Wang Cuihua were already out getting the stall prepared.
By the time Suizi had prepared breakfast and sent Jiaojiao off, mother and son were almost ready to pack up the stall and return home.
Initially, Wang Cuihua didn’t think much of this endeavor and only wanted to get out of the house for a bit of fresh air since she wasn’t allowed to perform her exorcism rituals.
Suizi also wanted to join, but was held back by the mother and son of the Yu family and received a firm talking-to.
A pregnant woman was the primary person to protect in the household, which left no chance for her to rise so early.
During their first day, Wang Cuihua didn’t dare to bring too many goods, just two boxes of plastic basins which were sold out in no time.
Upon returning, she and Suizi were both gleeful as they counted money - making money was easier than performing rituals, there was no sweat, only cash, how nice.
Their goods were unique with a distinctive supply chain, causing them to become more popular than the other stalls at the morning market. They quickly stood out and could barely keep up with the demand.
Suizi wanted to seize the opportunity to help, as she also had too much time on her hands.
However, Jingting still didn’t give her a chance and instead asked Wang Hui to help with the cash handling.
The bookstand was run by the couple, while the goods stand was a joint venture between the two families. Since Wang Hui held shares in the venture, it was only natural for her to contribute.
In order to provide for her child, Wang Hui was determined and would wake up at 3 am to help set up the stall. She would quickly eat a steamed bun at the stall and then return to her own work.
This inspired awe in Wang Cuihua - for the sake of their children, women could bear any hardship.
Seeing Wang Hui’s strong will, Suizi asked Jingting and his mother to bring a portion of breakfast for Wang Hui when they went out. Her breakfasts were much more substantial compared to only having a steamed bun, so it was her own little way of helping.
They were making a decent income, but with the money came trouble.
Suizi didn’t need to be on duty during the day, but she still needed to teach two classes a week, which she looked forward to.
Staying at home was torturous, as Jingting mother and son kept an unwavering watch on her like jail wardens, not allowing her to do any work.
Come to her night school to teach was a breath of fresh air for Suizi.
The night school colleagues were always the most eager for Suizi’s classes.
Because every time Suizi came, the principal would hole up in his office. Without the principal causing trouble, everyone’s lives were a lot happier.
"Suizi, is your stomach getting bigger again?" Zhang Yue’e found Suizi’s stomach fascinating, as it seemed to become rounder every time she looked at it.
Even when she touched it, she could feel it moving.
"These two little rascals are so lively, just like their father."
Director, are you expecting twin girls? Looking at your round stomach and your glowing skin, your mother-in-law must be thrilled, right?"
Wang Mengmeng started talking like an experienced old woman.
"Well, regardless if it’s boys or girls, we’re both very happy."
Noting Suizi’s indifferent response, Wang Mengmeng redirected the conversation.
"Director, I have to tell you something, don’t get angry. There are rumors circulating about your family, and it’s not very flattering."
