Chapter 265: Chapter 265: Defeating Magic with the Power of Magic
Suizi had previously provided information to Liao Yong, suspecting that there was something amiss with Yu Shuilian.
Indeed, many suspicions arose during Liao Yong’s investigation into the matter.
However, when they tried to interrogate further, Yu Shuilian started to act up in the station, pretending to be crazy. Meanwhile, Yu Jingting caught the real human trafficker. Consequently, the station let Yu Shuilian go.
They may have released her, but they have not lifted their suspicions of her.
The station chief, wanting to draw out larger prey, saw eye to eye with Suizi’s thinking.
If Yu Shuilian had indeed been involved in trafficking practices, there would certainly be a black-market chain pulling the strings behind her.
Following that chain could lead to the potential takedown of an entire criminal syndicate.
The arrival of Suizi and her partner excited the station immensely, and were highly praised for their conscientiousness.
It wasn’t until noon, after they had thoroughly discussed their plans, that Liao Yong suggested treating Suizi and her partner to a meal.
The three of them found a restaurant. After the meal, Yu Jingting went to the restroom.
Liao Yong and Suizi waited outside for him, chatting in the meantime.
"Old classmate, I feel so ashamed for my previous prejudice against you. You know, when I first saw your man, I thought he was a lowlife."
Suizi’s smile was incredibly fake.
She thought to herself, "No wonder you’re a cop, you’ve got sharp eyes. Wasn’t Yu Jingting just a lowlife a few months ago?"
"Who would have thought that Brother Jingting is such an upright guy? He smartly saved the child this time. Even our station head had a lot of praise for him, saying that he is a promising candidate for a police officer."
Whenever it came to praising Yu Jingting, Suizi was always very happy to listen, and she gave Liao Yong a very bright smile.
"Your station head has a good eye. However, what he said is not entirely true. My Jingting is talented in all areas and can shine in any position."
Liao Yong was lost for words, not knowing how to respond to this.
Shouldn’t she be showing some modesty?
Any compliments towards Yu Jingting were readily accepted by Suizi without any sort of reservation, which left Liao Yong struggling to find a response.
While the pair were chatting cheerfully outside, Suizi suddenly swayed, looking as if she was about to faint.
Liao Yong, quick on his feet, supported her.
This spectacle was witnessed by Yu Shuilian, causing her heart to beat faster.
She recognized Suizi and upon seeing Suizi with the cop who had previously interrogated her, she suspected an intimate relationship between them.
"Are you okay?!" Liao Yong asked anxiously.
Suizi steadied herself and shook her head. She suffered from hypoglycemia.
She hadn’t been feeling well before their meal and even though they had just eaten, the food needed time to be digested in her stomach; therefore, it was normal for her to experience symptoms of low blood sugar at this point.
Yu Shuilian, who was hiding behind a tree, was overjoyed at what she thought she had discovered - she had found Suizi’s "secret affair".
She had been worrying about not being able to sell Wang Cuihua. Now, believing that she had found Suizi’s "weakness", she felt as if the gods were on her side.
Fearing that Suizi would discover her, Yu Shuilian hastily left.
Yuh Shuilian, in her haste to depart, failed to notice that as soon as she turned, Yu Jingting had come out.
Yu Jingting also saw Liao Yong supporting Suizi.
"Brother Jingting, don’t get the wrong idea. Suizi just lost her balance for a moment, I was just helping." Liao Yong explained quickly.
The look on Yu Jingting’s face made him appear rather frightening to Liao Yong. Anyone would think that Yu Jingting was angry.
Yu Jingting rushed over in three strides, two steps at a time. Under Liao Yong’s anxious gaze, he took out a small bottle from his pocket, shook it a few times to ensure it was well mixed, and then made Suizi drink it.
Seeing his sour expression, Liao Yong thought that he was about to feed Suizi with poison.
"Feeling better?" Yu Jingting asked.
"Mmm, much better," Suizi replied. In truth, the effects weren’t immediate, but she said that so as not to worry him.
The bottle contained a glucose solution, which Yu Jingting had learned from a doctor was a good remedy for her low blood sugar.
"You’re really something! I told you to consume it during our meal, but you barely touched it, saying it didn’t taste good. Feeling the effects now, huh?"
Suizi secretly stuck out her tongue, unable to argue against the reprimand.
Ever since her pregnancy, her taste buds had changed drastically, and she had developed a distaste for the glucose solution, finding all sorts of excuses to refuse it.
This time, she was caught red-handed by Yu Jingting and had nothing to say in her defense.
Suizi’s shoelaces had come loose, so Yu Jingting squatted down to tie them, an action that left Liao Yong standing there in complete shock.
"I would have never guessed, Brother Jingting is so meticulous."
"My wife is carrying twins, so bending down is inconvenient for her." Yu Jingting didn’t feel ashamed at all for doing such things despite being a man.
His mother had told him from a young age that a man who can’t take care of his wife properly is the one who should truly feel ashamed.
How will one handle the world if they can’t even keep their own bed warm?
"In me the tiger sniffs the rose."
Suizi reached out and gently rubbed his buzz-cut hair. Whenever he squatted in front of her, she felt an irresistible urge to touch his hair.
"Yeah, well put," Liao Yong nodded, acting as if he understood completely.
Yu Jingting stood up, maintaining the same expression as Liao Yong, echoing his words.
"Not wrong at all. That’s exactly what I was thinking too."
The two men locked eyes. Neither had understood anything, but they couldn’t expose their ignorance in front of the others.
It wasn’t until after Suizi and her partner had left, that Liao Yong sat down, letting out a helpless sigh.
"I may be a college graduate but I studied Russian! I shouldn’t have had that meal with them, it was such a hit to my pride!"
Being a bachelor himself, he was being made to feel jealous of their affectionate ways, and now silently suffering the impact of their display of sophisticated love.
What did that "bird language" from my old classmate mean?
Having walked quite a distance away, Yu Jingting decided to clear his throat.
"What did you say to him just now? That I’m charming, capable, and just an all-around great guy?"
"I said that you’re shameless and always getting on my nerves, not studying properly. The only subjects you did okay in during your monthly exams were English and Mathematics. You just barely passed Chinese. The Chinese teacher mentioned that you didn’t write anything for the reading comprehension part of the exam, suspecting that you found the high word count too daunting and decided to be lazy. You also slept during Math class."
The translation of what she had said was, "In me the tiger sniffs the rose."
The Yu Jingting in her heart was a man who, despite his robust masculinity, had the utmost gentleness.
But she would absolutely not tell him this compliment in a straightforward manner - knowing him and his thick skin, he’d flaunt it excessively if he were to know.
"The ’bird language’ you said can translate into such a long sentence?" Yu Jingting, the academic underperformer, doubted that his wife was tricking him.
Suizi assumed an authoritative look and sternly said:
"When I tell you to pay more attention during class, don’t sleep, you never listen. So who’s to blame when you can’t even translate such a simple sentence?"
Seeing Yu Jingting’s nonchalant looks, Suizi guessed that he definitely found studying incredibly tedious and wasn’t taking it seriously.
She had underestimated Yu Jingting’s intelligence. Before this, she thought that he was a mess in cultural subjects, and they had made an agreement that he only needed to pass them.
However, this guy sleeps during all his other classes in night school, often skips classes, and has even threatened the teachers not to inform Suizi.
Working half-heartedly like this, he somehow still passed.
This guy was incredibly smart, but also incredibly lazy. Being so lazy that he left all the long answer questions blank, Suizi had never met a student like this.
"Jingting, if you manage to get into the top three in the next monthly exam, how about I reward you?"
"Heh, I’ve seen and heard it all. I won’t be bought over that easily. What reward are we talking about?"
Suizi steeled herself.
To deal with a man whose mind is always filled with that kind of stuff, one should fight fire with fire, or rather, fight vulgarity with vulgarity!
