Chapter 251: What’s Wrong with Me Being Fearful of My Wife?
Chapter 251: Chapter 251: What’s Wrong with Me Being Fearful of My Wife?
"Yu, Tie, Gen!" Chen Lijun hissed, her teeth gritted with rage.
Yu Jingting sat down, poured himself a glass of beer, and drained it.
"Mom, if you want to blame someone, blame yourself for being naive about the evils of the world. How could you even trust me? Even at my worst, I can’t believe myself." Jingting signalled to the waiter, laughing.
They took away all the uneaten dishes and got a few more bottles of beer; this was not a good place for conversation.
It was impossible for Lijun to back out even if she knew she had been deceived.
Suizi’s hand rested on her stomach; she looked at her mother with red eyes. Without uttering a word, Lijun understood everything by the expression on her face.
If Lijun dared to leave tonight, who knew what her strong-headed daughter would do.
"You little brat, I’ll settle this score with you later." Lijun gritted her teeth and cursed Jingting.
"I told you before, even though I consider you as half my mother, I’m totally her husband. If you two fight, I’ll certainly take her side."
If Suizi’s expression wasn’t so alarming, Lijun might have been amused by Jingting’s cheeky behavior.
Not many people could openly admit they were henpecked, but this brat in front of her was one of them.
Wang Cuihua had drunk too much and fell asleep. Her son managed to carry her onto the tractor. When she woke up, the smell of hot pot filled the room.
Wang Cuihua rubbed her eyes and sat up. Looking down, she gave a shocked cry.
"Am I dreaming?!"
By the small dining table was an electric stove and an iron pot. Suizi and Chen Lijun sat opposite each other, expressionless.
Jiaojiao, feeling the intense standoff, kept her head down and continued eating, not daring to even look up.
For a ten-year-old, the scene was too intense.
Wang Cuihua was dumbfounded, seeing the scene and thinking it was a dream—
If it wasn’t a dream, then how was it possible for Suizi and her mother to sit so calmly together.
Jingting, seated next to Suizi, handed out food and poured drinks for Lijun with a big grin on his face.
"This dream is too weird, except for Tiegen who is normal as usual." Wang Cuihua muttered.
Jingting laughed.
"Of course, my mother still loves me, which puffs me up."
But the next thing Wang Cuihua said deflated his inflated self-esteem.
"With Tiegen, it’s the same old annoying person whether he’s in a dream or not. I can’t bear to admit that I gave birth to such a flatterer."
Wang Cuihua lay back down, still thinking she was dreaming, continued to grumble.
"Dear deceased, why can’t I ever dream of you? I really wish you could see our family’s good life now..."
Lijun couldn’t help but burst into laughter.
Since sitting down, the mother and daughter pair had been locked in a silent standoff, a battle of wills.
Both of them held their breath, waiting to see who would break the silence first.
However, it was Chen Lijun who laughed first due to the candid words of Wang Cuihua who was drunk.
Seeing her mother laugh, the corners of Suizi’s mouth also curled up slightly.
As a longstanding mood maker of the Yu family, Jingting, observant as ever, noticed the mother and daughter pair weren’t locked in a staring match anymore. He quickly lifted his glass to change the subject.
"Today, our family is finally complete, come on, let’s drink."
Suizi didn’t move, she hadn’t completely forgiven them for keeping secrets from her yet.
Jingting reached over and grabbed her hand, forcing her to raise her glass. Everyone drank, even Jiaojiao had a bottle of soda. As a pregnant woman, Suizi replaced alcohol with water.
Seeing this, Lijun also lifted her drink and clinked glasses with Suizi.
"Don’t be angry anymore, you puff up like a blowfish every time you get annoyed."
"Aunt Jun, my sister-in-law is a mermaid, not a blowfish. Just look at her, isn’t she beautiful?"
Jiaojiao, wise beyond her years, corrected Lijun earnestly. Her banter with Jingting lightened the formerly chilly atmosphere.
"Jiaojiao has grown a lot, you look like a big girl now." Lijun smiled warmly at Jiaojiao.
Jiaojiao thought Lijun, Suizi’s mother, looked a lot like Suizi. They both looked great when they smiled.
"Is your homework done yet? What rank are you in class now? Besides piano, do you learn anything else?" Lijun fired off a series of questions.
Jiaojiao almost choked on her mutton.
The meat in her mouth lost its flavor instantly.
"Aunt Jun, not only do you look like Suizi, but why does her personality also seem like yours?!" asked Jiaojiao, making funny faces and causing the room to fill with laughter.
Suizi’s eyes also curled into a smile unknowingly.
"She’s my child, so she should be the one who resembles me, not the other way around."
"But she is all grown up now, how can you still call her a child?" In Jiaojiao’s eyes, Suizi was everything.
It felt strange hearing Lijun call Suizi a child.
"To a mother, no matter how old their children are, they will always be their ’babies’. Even if all her teeth fall out, she has to call me mom." Lijun glanced at Suizi, who had not even called her ’mom’ since she arrived.
"Isn’t that right, mom? We’re always children in your eyes, especially me. I’m still a child." Jingting was always quick to call his mother.
"Brother, have some shame. At most, you can be regarded as a disobedient son."
"Did you finish your homework? Bring over your school bag and show my mother your recent test papers—show off your talents too. How about reciting a poem Suizi taught you this week?"
"I’m going back to sleep after I finish eating! You continue your chat!" Jiaojiao ran off. She couldn’t stand to be there anymore.
Suizi and Lijun both had smiles in their eyes.
"Living with these siblings is really enjoyable. Look how plump you’ve become lately. Seems like you’re gaining weight." Lijun reached out and pinched Suizi’s cheek.
"Mmm, firm indeed."
Suizi was no longer smiling.
Jingting was so worried that he wanted to bang his head against the wall.
What kind of perverse pleasure did his mother-in-law get from provoking his wife? He had only just made Suizi laugh, and Lijun put her in a bad mood again with just one sentence.
"Mom, Suizi’s lost quite a bit of weight now; she’s not even 150 pounds— but look at her belly. Two babies inside, counting water and all, must contribute a significant amount of weight. My wife’s figure has surpassed that of 99% of pregnant women."
"You feed my daughter these lies all day?" Lijun sneered. Some men would say anything to avoid getting in trouble.
"I like his lies, so don’t say anything about him. I don’t want to hear it." Suizi finally spoke up. Once she started talking, the atmosphere turned tense again.
"Oh? So, you sided with them after being married for a few days?"
"Don’t change the subject, just tell me directly. Why did you say those things on the phone back then?"
"If I want to say it, I’ll say it. I don’t need to explain anything to you."
Bang.
Suizi slammed her glass onto the table, startling Jingting. He wanted to scream. Were these two women ever going to stop?
They started arguing the moment they met. They refused to talk things out nicely. When would it end?
It was crucial for Jingting to defuse the situation, and with a skilled maneuver, he managed to pry open his mother-in-law’s mouth.
