Chapter 232: Chapter 232: Is it a Coincidence? (150+ Monthly Tickets Update)
Throughout the journey, Suizi was trying to find the right words.
She didn’t want to be too deliberate, hoping to embody the demeanor of contemporary women...
After thinking for the entire journey, she hadn’t come up with anything by the time they arrived at the school.
"I don’t know that Wang Jialan has feelings for me." Surprisingly, it was Yu Jingting who spoke first.
"Did you kiss her?"
"Why on earth would I kiss her?!"
"Your sister-in-law said you kissed her by the creek in Yang Village — is she pretty?" Suizi had never seen Wang Jialan before.
She had no impression of her from either this life or the previous one since they were not from the same village.
"Let me put it this way, she has a hawk-like nose, a wide mouth like a frog, a square face, triangular eyes — even ghosts would tremble at her appearance, how could I possibly kiss someone who looks like that?"
"So, only if they are pretty can you kiss them?"
Teacher Xiaochen swore she hadn’t meant to nitpick.
"I haven’t kissed anyone besides you! If you keep nagging about this, I will—"
Suizi pursed her lips.
Her eyes instantly welled up with tears.
"You’re being mean..."
"I’m not being mean at all!" Yu Jingting could hardly explain himself right now.
"So now you’re calling me a fart?"
"..." At this point, Yu Jingting wished he could turn into a fart and drift away in the wind.
"If you don’t behave, I’m going to eat all the oranges, not leaving a single one for you!"
After Yu Jingting’s words, both of them fell silent.
He felt regretful; as the formidable boss of the neighborhood, had he reduced himself to threatening to eat a lady’s oranges?
Suizi also regretted, her jealous demeanor made her no different from an ordinary housewife.
Love is indeed a terrifying thing, it dulled one’s intelligence. Looking back, even the silliest disputes seem unbearably sweet.
Yu Jingting sorted out his thoughts.
"I’ll go back to Yang Village tomorrow."
"???"
"I’ll drag your sister-in-law back here, clear things up in her presence, then give her a good beating!"
If it weren’t for her sister-in-law’s false rumors, his wife wouldn’t be this upset.
Seeing his fierce expression, Suizi couldn’t help but laugh out loud.
"You even hit women?"
"She didn’t consider herself a woman when spreading rumors, why should I? Should crimes be gender-specific?"
Just as quickly as Suizi’s mood had soured, it lifted.
If he had really kissed someone else, he wouldn’t have reacted so strongly.
"Normally, I’m not like this. It’s the hormonal fluctuation from carrying two children that’s causing my instability."
"Right, it’s all their fault. Once they come out, I’ll teach them."
"How dare you!"
Suizi glared at him. The reddish circles around her eyes and her angry expression made Yu Jingting feel incredibly charmed.
"Darling, don’t move, there’s something on your forehead."
Suizi promptly stood still.
"Smack!" He kissed her forehead forcefully, "So, what’s on your forehead is a handsome man’s kiss."
Suizi pushed him away, "You annoying guy!"
"How can you be so rough? If you push me down, won’t you regret and cry?"
"No way!"
Yu Jingting leaned in and whispered into her ear:
"Not regretful? Then why are you acting as if you drank a jar of vinegar? Why are you constantly asking about Wang Jialan?"
As her secret was revealed, Suizi pouted, and Yu Jingting quickly raised his hands in surrender.
"Ancestors! Please don’t cry, it’s all my fault, I’m the one who’s jealous, it’s all my fault. Eat all the oranges, don’t leave a single one for me."
Yu Jingting handed the bag of oranges to her.
Suizi’s sadness turned into laughter, and she happily headed to work.
Wang Mengmeng stood by the window, shaking her head as she watched them while sipping her tea.
"The morals of society are really declining, how can people be so shameless?"
"Who’s denying that?" Xiaoli chimed in, holding onto the newspaper.
Having found a kindred soul in Xiaoli, Wang Mengmeng nudged him with her elbow.
"Don’t you also feel that the Director is too intimate with her man?"
"I find it strange, why are you always concerned about how others’ marriages are doing?"
Xiaoli put down the newspaper, glanced at her, and shook his head, saying, "Did she eat your cornstalk? Is it any of your business?"
Wang Mengmeng, having been called out on her prying, felt embarrassed and awkward.
Seeing Xiaoli resume his newspaper reading, Wang Mengmeng reached out, making two large holes in the paper with a thud.
"Are you crazy?" Xiaoli stood up.
Wang Mengmeng crossed her arms, looking smug.
"What, are you going to be petty with a woman? Isn’t that a little petty for a grown man!"
Suizi came in, heard the sentence, and blurted out after recalling what Yu Jingting just said:
"When you provoke others, do you consider your gender? When someone talks back to you, you suddenly remember it? Does the law care about the criminal’s gender?"
Xiaoli gave Suizi two thumbs up!
The Director is mighty, domineering!
Wang Mengmeng rolled her eyes, silently mouthing an insult.
Suizi proceeded to assign the day’s work.
Wang Mengmeng was upset again.
"Director, do you have something against me? Why do I have more work than Zhang Yue’e?"
"Yue’e has no error rate in sorting out documents, while you’ve made three mistakes this month. If you can perform like Yue’e, you can switch places."
"There’s so much data. Sure, my hand might slip a little, but that’s not a big deal, right..."
"The error caused by your ’little slip’ requires multiple trips to various departments for proof."
Unable to respond, Wang Mengmeng angrily slammed her office supplies around, making quite a noise.
Ignoring her, Suizi completed the work distribution and returned to her office.
"Do you think she’s targeting me?" Wang Mengmeng asked the others.
Zhang Yue’e kept her head down and didn’t respond, and the two male colleagues continued with their own work.
Wang Mengmeng continued her rant, all the grievances Suizi had supposedly caused her just rolled on and on.
"Wang Mengmeng, if I were you, I definitely wouldn’t oppose the Director—can’t you see she’s been indulging you?"
Xiaoli couldn’t stand her whining any longer and couldn’t help but give her some advice.
Only Wang Mengmeng thought the Director was easy to bully because of her gentle words.
The reality was she simply couldn’t be bothered to deal with Wang Mengmeng. If she did, it would be as easy as crushing an ant.
"Oh, so you fancy the Director, is that it? Why else would you speak for her?"
Xiaoli stood up and pointed at her nose cursing.
"Wang Mengmeng, I’ve put up with you for a long time!"
Wang Mengmeng, not to be outdone, retorted fiercely.
"What’s wrong? Are you mad because I hit a nerve?"
As their arguments got louder, Wang Mengmeng turned around, covering her face and ran out. It seemed she was going to complain to the Principal.
Then, everyone heard Wang Mengmeng’s scream from outside.
"Ahh!"
They looked out the window, but saw nothing.
Then, they saw Director Xiaochen, heavily pregnant, slowly walking over and stopping somewhere.
"Can someone come out and carry her off? Wang Mengmeng has fainted."
Looking at the ground they saw Wang Mengmeng lying face down, she had slipped on ice and seemed to have taken a nasty fall.
"Why is there ice in our courtyard?" Zhang Yue’e found it strange.
She had clearly removed all the ice while cleaning this morning.
"Did someone pour water from the tea cup onto the ground? How shameless, the Director is pregnant. What if she fell by accident." Xiaozhang casually commented.
Suizi stared at the fallen Wang Mengmeng, a pang of fear hitting her.
This little patch of ice was perfectly hidden in a blind spot around the corner, barely noticeable if you weren’t paying attention.
If it had been her who stepped on it...
Was it really a coincidence?
