Chapter 188: Chapter 188: Good Children Should Never Imitate (Monthly Tickets+Updates)

That night.

At Yu Shuiniu’s house.

"Why is this owl keep calling around our house? It gives me the creeps. Second daughter-in-law, could you go outside and see what’s happening"

The old woman said to her second daughter-in-law.

The second wife continued cracking some melon seeds, her eyelids did not even flutter, and she replied with a sullen face:

"Owls are bad omens in the village. With the one bad luck person in our house, it’s not surprising we attract such ill fortune."

In the countryside, an owl is considered an unlucky omen.

The old woman retorted, feeling insulted:

"Who are you calling a bad luck person?!"

Although the old woman did have some authoritative power at home, the second wife had many disagreements with her but never dared to openly argue with her before.

These days, the house of the second uncle was in complete chaos.

Ever since they received the poor-quality land, the whole family has been in a sour mood.

One misfortune after another descended on them, and they were even caught red-handed by Yu Jingting’s family, thus they dared not make a fuss any more and internal disputes started arising.

The second wife stood up, pointing at the old woman and shouted angrily:

"You old wretch, I am talking about you! If it wasn’t for you freeloading in our house and bringing us so much bad luck, how could our family end up with sandy land?"

In just over a month, spring ploughing will start. Considering what prime fertile lands other families received, compared with their own sandy soil, they couldn’t help feeling hard done by.

The second wife had always been picking fights with her mother-in-law when the opportunity presented itself, and today was no exception.

"Second Son! Are you going to do something? Your wife is mocking your mother!" The old woman yelled, slapping her thighs.

The old second had drunk himself into a stupor and lay on the kang bed, half-closed his eyes, numbed his sorrow with alcohol; he did not want to get involved in the squabbles between the women.

"Listen up, old woman! If you don’t exchange our lot for Wang Cuihua’s prime land before the end of the month, you’ll have to stay with your eldest son, don’t freeloading in our house anymore!"

The inside of the house was in chaos, like chickens and dogs are stirred up.

Outside the house, two figures quietly approached.

The dog in second uncle’s courtyard barked wildly, but no one in the house, who were busy fighting, came out to check.

Suizi stood in front of the second uncle’s house on the street, listening to the scoldings from inside, her little face was tense.

She had gone to see her mother-in-law.

The mother-in-law, who used to be lively and jumping around, was pitifully lying on the bed, and the bed was still cold, Suizi’s anger flared up again.

After listening to the noise from second uncle’s house for a while, both the mother-in-law and daughter-in-law had loud voices. From their fragments of conversation, Suizi understood why the old woman had turned on her mother-in-law.

It was all about money.

Second uncle’s family did not dare to confront her mother-in-law, so they sent the old woman to make trouble.

If Wang Cuihua argued with the old woman, she would be labelled as disrespecting her elders.

Yu Jingting saw her tense little face full of anger and couldn’t help but tease.

"I found out that you’ve become robust after pregnancy, why?"

Who could have imagined, the bride who was so timid that she would cry if one raised their voice, has now turned into a fierce ’Tiger’ mama from Dongbei, who dares to make trouble at people’s houses?

"It’s all because of you, Hu Bi, the principal said you’re a Hu Bi, I’m with you all day, I couldn’t help but become infected."

"I think they’re going to have to replace their glass again." Yu Jingting remembered nothing else, but he remembered the principal cursing him.

Suizi took out the school bell, and Yu Jingting hit it several times.

In the silent night, the bell’s echoes floated above the small courtyard.

The second wife’s house was located on the outskirts of the village, guarding the boundary.

After the bell rang, they went around the backyard.

Two minutes later, the second uncle grumbled from inside the house and came out, scanning around with his flashlight.

"Who is messing around in the middle of the night?!"

It was pitch dark and he couldn’t see anything.

The owl on the tree branch, witnessing everything, hooted.

The cold wind blew, and Uncle Er woke up from his drunkenness.

"‎My goodness, why is this so scary?" Aunt Er went out and didn’t see anyone, which scared her into a cold sweat.

The bell ringing seemed to come from the door, but where was anyone at the door?

"It might be some kids playing around, no big deal. Let’s go inside." Uncle Er suppressed his fear.

After they went inside, Suizi circled back to Uncle Er’s back door, replicated her previous actions, and rang the bell again.

In the northern winters for warmth, everyone’s back doors are sealed. If you want to see what’s happening at the back door, you have to circle around from the front.

When Uncle Er circled around to see, Suizi had already run back to the front of his house.

Watching Suizi’s antics, Yu Jingting was extremely amused.

"I realised that you are much worse than me."

He usually just plays around with his slingshot, shooting glasses and lighting firecrackers in the toilet.

But her stirring up trouble in the middle of the night like this would scare the timid ones to death.

"People’s fear all comes from the unknown. Like the firecrackers, at first it sounds scary, but once you know what it is, you won’t be afraid anymore."

"Damn it! Who is up in the middle of the night playing ghost? Come out!" Uncle Er stood in his backyard and started cursing.

Suizi ran to the front yard and rang the bell.

Uncle Er heaved himself and ran there, gasping and stamping, tired like a fool.

Both scared and upset, he stood at his front door and started yelling.

"Oh dear, we can’t keep on like this. What if we stand guard, one in the back and one in the front?" proposed Aunt Er.

Uncle Er thought that was a good suggestion, so they split up and each watched a side of the house.

They sought the source of this chilling midnight bell, one at the front and one at the back.

No sound at the front nor back.

Suddenly, the familiar toll of the bell came from the side of the courtyard.

The couple ran towards the sound. The bell rang intermittently, sometimes to be heard, sometimes not.

When they arrived, they could see the large school bell was oddly tied to a tree next to their courtyard.

With every gust of wind, the bell would ring.

The surroundings were completely quiet, without a single human figure in sight.

"Oh my god! It’s haunted!" Aunt Er fainted from the fright.

Uncle Er’s legs started to tremble. As he supported the fainted Aunt Er, he cursed furiously to cover his fear at the bottom of his heart:

"Who’s the bastard behind this? If I find him, I swear I’ll cripple him."

"And who are you planning to cripple?"

This unexpected voice came from behind Uncle Er. Startled, he turned around and saw a huge deceased pig head.

"Damn it!" Uncle Er dropped his flashlight, sat down on the ground, and shouted, "The pig’s gone demonic!"

Without the flashlight, all he could see was the shadow of a pig-headed figure. Terrified, Uncle Er fainted as well.

Yu Jingting moved the pig’s head aside. It was from the pig Uncle Er had kept in his courtyard, which he had taken casually.

"Did they actually faint? Their bravery leaves quite a bit to be desired." Yu Jingting gave unconscious Uncle Er a kick with his shoe. He was still breathing, so he wasn’t dead.

"Tiegen, why have you two come here?"

The neighbours who lived nearby rushed over upon hearing the commotion. When they saw Uncle Er and Aunt Er collapsed on the ground, they were shocked.

"What on earth happened to you, Uncle?"

Uncle Er was known to be stingy and had a bad reputation in their community. He didn’t get along with any of the neighbours. Otherwise, with Suizi making such a ruckus around his house, someone would have come to check out the situation much sooner.

"Probably reaping what he sowed with all the bad things he’s done." Suizi finished playing with Uncle Er and moved her gaze to the main house.

Next, it’s Granny Yu’s turn!

She had brought along Revival Pills, so she feared nothing! Anybody faints, she will feed them!
