I am chasing a rough man in the 80s -
Chapter 166: Reversal after Reversal
Chapter 166: Chapter 166: Reversal after Reversal
The situation switched up.
Old Madame Yu, who thought she had the situation under control, suddenly found herself in the wrong.
Before, Old Madame Yu kept denying any familial connections with Wang Cuihua.
But after hearing about the duplicate copy that Yu Jingting had kept, she suddenly acknowledged kinship.
"Cuihua, you’ve called me ’mother’ for so many years, this whole matter is just a misunderstanding."
Old Madame Yu’s change in attitude surprised Suizi, the change was so abrupt.
"You still want to settle scores with your granny?" Old Madame Yu tried to be tough and soft at the same time, asserting her authority after talking soft.
She was particularly adept at moral intimidation.
She used this tactic to ask for money and maintain her lies.
"Stop trying to use irrelevant matters to deflect, there is no distinction of kinship in the face of the law," Yu Jingting retorted, leaving her speechless.
Suizi gave a brief summary of his two counters against this moral hostage-taking.
The main idea: as long as you have no sense of morals, there is no fear of being taken hostage by them!
After another day of learning from Yu Tiegen how to fend off attacks, Suizi felt accomplished.
Old Madame Yu was left speechless by Yu Jingting.
Reasoning with Yu Jingting is undoubtedly seeking her own death. He always had a knack for a comeback that killed the conversation.
The atmosphere turned into a stalemate.
Old Madame Yu threw a pleading look towards few of the village elders, but they all remained silent.
Normally, these people would smooth things over, advocating for family harmony.
Unfortunately, by indiscriminately attacking everyone earlier, Old Madame Yu had offended all of the elders.
None of them were willing to speak up for her now. Their faces were unreadable, but inside they were reveling at the spectacle of Yu Jingting standing up to Old Madame Yu. It was a sight to behold.
Old Madame Yu had been bullying the village for years. But this time, it was particularly satisfying for everyone. This wasn’t just a personal quarrel, it was public service.
Old Madame Yu was reaping the consequences of her actions.
"Hold on a second! The note in your hand is fake!"
The always silent Second Uncle, looking rejuvenated, examined the IOU in his hand for a while before suddenly shouting.
"Oh?" Yu Jingting was not surprised, as if he was waiting for this to be said.
"Everybody come and look! This IOU in my hand doesn’t have the traces of being duplicated! I’ve seen carbon papers before. After writing on it, the back would be blue. Take a look at mine, there’s nothing!"
Second Uncle excitedly held up the loan paper for everyone to see.
Indeed, nothing could be seen on the back.
The village chief and others compared this note with the one in Yu Jingting’s hand. Aside from an extra ’1’ in front of the loan amount, everything else was the same.
Also this "1", the spacing is very narrow. Unlike the spacing of other characters.
It seemed to be a carbon copy, but indeed there were no traces of duplicate paper.
"Yu Tiegen, I have solid proof now that you are slandering us, you are finished! You’re going to jail!" It was obvious Second Uncle couldn’t hide his triumph.
All eyes were again focused on Yu Jingting.
In less than five minutes, the situation had turned and reversed again.
The villagers were finding it hard to follow.
The initiative seemed to be back in Second Uncle’s hands as he brandished it with pride.
The bent waist of Old Madame Yu suddenly straightened up again.
"Wang Cuihua! Have you anything else to say! To slander us so viciously!"
"Pfft!" Suizi’s laughter broke the standoff.
Yu Jingting raised an eyebrow.
Was this young woman enjoying the spectacle?
To Suizi, Old Madame Yu was truly hilarious.
She had bounced between "a just demand for due debt, otherwise to sever familial relations" and "humbly asking for peace, as we are family" repeatedly.
She changed faces like it was a practiced art.
Suizi imagined Yu Jingting in chef’s cap, in hand a large iron ladle, while Old Madame Yu and Second Uncle were like large potatoes with two faces stewing in the pot.
Whenever Yu Jingting stirred, their faces changed.
This hilarious thought experiment was unstoppable; the more she thought about it, the funnier it seemed.
Suizi’s laughter infuriated Old Madame Yu, who pointed at Suizi’s nose.
"You jinx, you can still laugh? Since the time you married into this house, we’ve never had a moment’s peace!"
"Stop talking nonsense! Since my daughter-in-law married into our house, not only have we had a new member, we’ve also had good fortune." Wang Cuihua jumped to protect Suizi.
Fearing the situation wasn’t chaotic enough, Wang Cuihua began to count:
"The day after Suizi got married, our chicken started laying two eggs a day. Just after a month, we had a baby. After two months, Tiegen was in the newspaper winning a prize..."
She went on and on.
Speaking of Suizi’s contributions to her in-laws, it would take hours to finish, if Yu Jingting didn’t interrupt, Wang Cuihua would keep rambling on.
"Tiegen, we are now in a new age, we don’t believe in superstition. You should be careful not to break the rules." The village chief interjected.
Old Madame Yu rolled her eyes.
"You are talking about not being superstitious in a family that performs exorcism?!"
The village chief was clearly biased.
The village chief gave Yu Jingting a look, signalling him to end the nonsense quickly. He still had to go home and eat his baked potatoes.
"Actually, Jingting can prove that there is indeed a connection between the two IOUs," Suizi finally spoke up, seeking to end this charade.
Although, it was somewhat regrettable.
"Second Uncle, are you sure that the IOU in your hand is real?" Suizi emphasized for the last time.
Second Uncle was adamant it was real.
"Then...can you swear that if you are telling lies, Old Madame Yu will suffer from incontinence every time she coughs in her latter years, and she will always have difficulty going to the toilet?"
The address ’Old Madame Yu’ and ’Granny’ have two completely different connotations.
"Granny" is a term of endearment for one’s own family, but considering Old Madame Yu’s behaviour in the past and her insults today, Suizi felt she did not deserve to be addressed as ’Granny’.
If individuals won’t respect themselves, why should others?
"I..."
Second Uncle glanced at Old Madame Yu, who was fuming with rage, cursing.
"You jinx, cursing me?! You’re neither a bat with chicken feather, what kind of bird do you think you are?!"
"If Second Uncle has done nothing wrong, why act like a ’mad bee’?" Yu Jingting counter attacked.
When Old Madame Yu swore with a pun, he returned the favour. The game of insults was getting intense.
Second Uncle realized he couldn’t fob off anymore, he gritted his teeth.
For money, mother was not that important.
"The IOU has not been altered. If it was, then let my mother piss herself every time she coughs in her latter years."
"Ew!"
Suizi, Wang Cuihua, and Jiaojiao all made the same disgusted face, which appeared to have been copied and pasted.
After living under the same roof for a long time, expressions are infectious
"You won’t understand till you’re in the coffin, want proof? It’s still easy."
Yu Jingting ordered Jiaojiao to fetch some duplicate paper.
Aren’t the bad students who have been punished by teachers since childhood supposed to have some "secret techniques"?
