I am chasing a rough man in the 80s
Chapter 164: Raise your head and Breathe Easy

Chapter 164: Chapter 164: Raise your head and Breathe Easy

Old Granny Yu had a belly full of words ready for the road.

She planned to go all the way back to the second day after Jingting’s dad’s marriage and air every grievance till now.

She stressed how both Jingting and his mother owed her, owed the Yu family.

She had only one aim: to exchange their second uncle’s sandy land with the prime land of Jingting’s family.

But all those words were stuck inside her belly, blocked by two words from Jingting.

When Old Granny Yu accused Jingting of wanting to kill her, Jingting responded:

"Yes~"

Dead silence fell over the scene.

There was no response to this.

Old Granny Yu had never seen such an unpredictable person.

Neither had Suizi.

Jingting, smoking a cigarette, strolled over to Granny Yu and the others.

The wind blew the smoke he exhaled at Old Granny Yu, making her squint from discomfort.

"I, Yu Jingting, have never claimed to be a nice guy. Is today the first day you know me?"

"I started fights at three, smashed windows at five, by ten I was setting off firecrackers with a two-foot-long wick. There are very few men in the village I haven’t pissed off. I’m the bogeyman parents use to scare their kids—"

Jingting with his cigarette aloft, looked at the people from the Yu family with disdain, his eyes sweeping over their greedy faces, unable to hide the mockery in his expression.

"You knew I was a bad guy, but you dared to confront me, does that make you idiots?"

"But I’m your grandmother!"

"What kind of grandmother are you? When my mother left little Jiaojiao and me at your door, what did you do? Let your dogs attack us. Yeah, what a grandma."

"What did you say? She set the dogs on you? Why didn’t I know about this?!"

On hearing this, Wang Cuihua flew into a fury, storming over to confront Old Granny Yu.

You can mess with anything, but not a woman’s child. It’s a forbidden zone.

This incident happened ten years ago, and only now Wang Cuihua was hearing of it.

Although Jingting lived a wild life, he never mentioned these rotten things at home.

Since he opened his mouth today, it indicated that he intended to sever all relations, leaving no room for reconciliation.

Meanwhile, Wang Cuihua was in a heated confrontation with Old Granny Yu.

"If you think it’s boring, you can go inside, sister-in-law. Don’t catch a cold," Jiaojiao, mature beyond her age, tugged at Suizi.

Suizi rose from the small stool and reached out to hold Jiaojiao’s hand.

Jiaojiao wanted to take her inside, only to find Suizi as immovable as a mountain.

"Sister-in-law?"

Suizi did not hear Jiaojiao’s voice, her vision gradually blurring.

Her mind lingered on Jingting’s recounting of the dog attack.

Her mother-in-law, unable to survive, decided to drink poison at her father-in-law’s grave, leaving Jingting and Jiaojiao

at Old Granny Yu’s doorstep.

The mother-in-law’s exact words were, "These children are the seed of the Yu family. The Yu family will not let them starve."

The reality, however, was that Old Granny Yu had set the dogs on Jingting.

While holding Jiaojiao’s small hand, Suizi couldn’t help thinking about how Jingting was just about Jiaojiao’s age at that time.

Her heart felt as if it were being torn apart as she pictured Jingting, with Jiaojiao in his arms, running from the dogs with an empty stomach.

The standoff between Wang Cuihua and Old Granny Yu had faded into the background. All of Suizi’s focus was on Jingting; everything else was blurry, only he was in sharp focus.

Jingting was smoking, his face nonchalant, but Suizi knew his heart was never an island.

As if sensing Suizi’s intense gaze, Jingting turned and looked at her. Seeing her teary-eyed, he frowned.

She shouldn’t have witnessed all this mess.

Yu Tiefu, seeing his chance, sprang forward and grabbed Jingting’s collar while he was distracted.

"Tiegen, are you even human? She is our grandmother, and you’re giving her trouble at this age? You’re not filial at all!"

"Let go," Jingting said coldly.

Fear flickered in Yu Tiefu’s eyes, and his fingers trembled slightly. In his moment of hesitation, Jingting flicked the cigarette ash into Tiefu’s murky eyes.

Cigarette ash fell from his fingers and landed in Yu Tiefu’s eye.

"Ah!!!"

Yu Tiefu released his grip, screaming as he covered his eye.

"Fufu! What happened?!" Their uncle cried out, scared out of his wits.

Old Granny Yu halted her skirmish with Wang Cuihua and gathered round Yu Tiefu to check on him.

"It won’t blind him. It’s just a bit of ash," Jingting flicked his cigarette again.

"Tiegen! Are you crazy?!" Old Granny Yu yelled back at Jingting, but he mustered a bloodthirsty smile.

With a random flick of his fingers, the lit cigarette flew directly towards their uncle, landing perfectly on his forehead.

The burn made him jump high with a start.

"This time it’s just cigarette ash. Next time, it may not be. Whether you can keep your fishy eyes or not depends on my mood."

Everyone but Suizi was terrified by his threats.

No one thought Jingting was joking. As a notorious troublemaker, he was capable of anything.

Tiefu, startled, felt his legs weaken.

He quickly retreated behind his grandmother’s back, eyeing Jingting warily with the eye that was not covered, for fear Jingting might come over to burn him again.

"We shouldn’t dwell on the past, we are all a family, we should understand each other. We can exchange our prime land with our second uncle’s secondary land. After all, their household has more mouths to feed - That’s what you want me to say right? Fine."

Hope blossomed in Old Granny Yu’s eyes, and she started to beam.

"Unless, you can bring my father back to life and take back all the tears my mother shed over the years," Jingting changed his tone.

Old Granny Yu’s smile froze on her face.

"You’re just making things up now! Your father died while repairing the river, how am I involved?"

"Weren’t you so eager to die that you forced my father to go in place of our second uncle? If it wasn’t for you, my father would be preparing to hold his grandchild right now. You keep calling my mother a curse, my wife a misfortune. In reality, you are the real curse!"

"Your moon face, who gave you the confidence to call others broomstars? If you stood in the middle of Wang Family’s road, your big face alone would block half the sunlight for the whole village!"

Surrounded by Jingting’s sorrow and past incidents, Suizi woke from his fresh and refined fancy mocking. She hurriedly noted it in her heart, answering:

"Where did the other half of the light go?"

"Her misfortune darkened it! She was a curse when young, and is still a curse now. She even caused our second uncle to go bald!"

"Second uncle, don’t stare at me with those swollen eyes full of eye boogers."

"Your eyes are so wide, and your nostrils are so big, are they left open to take in water? You were already stupid. After your brain fills up with water and you take off your clothes to jump in the pigpen, you’ll look just like a pig."

"And for you onlookers, what are you looking at? When others fight, they radiate a murderous aura, but you three radiate a stupid aura! You’re making the pigs in our yard dumber."

"Big bro, haven’t we already slaughtered our pig?" Jiaojiao chimed in.

"We slaughtered the pig. Isn’t the second uncle still here?" Jingting sized him up. He was such a large lump; how could he be overlooked?

Suizi burst into laughter.

From top to bottom, young to old, he insulted everyone in a round, and still managed to tie it back to the second uncle.

He’d managed to create a complete loop of insults. His talent was undeniable.
