He burst out directly, capturing Li’s mother, cursing at the already terrified Li Youcai:

The sudden appearance of Yu Jingting scared Li Youcai to the point of peeing his pants.

Yu Jingting’s voice echoed like the roar of a tiger.

Suizi wanted to applaud him, this sudden turning of the tables, impressive.

Li Youcai was so frightened by Yu Jingting’s roar that he dropped the knife straight towards his own foot. Jiaojiao seized the opportunity to break free from his clutch.

Li Youcai wanted to grab Jiaojiao, when suddenly someone jumped in from the side.

They bit down hard on Li Youcai’s hand.

"Jiaojiao! Run! I’ll save you!" Little Yingtao had been waiting for an opportunity to come to the rescue.

Li Youcai howled in pain and instinctively pushed Little Yingtao away.

Little Yingtao thumped to the ground, his vision going dark as Li Youcai reached for the fallen knife.

"Yu Jiaojiao! Remember me, my name is Yuan Wenyuan!" Little Yingtao yelled out with his eyes shut and neck exposed.

He’d seen it in the open-air movies at the village entrance!

Before a hero dies, he must always shout out like this, right?

Not feeling the anticipated pain, Little Yingtao opened his eyes.

Yu Jingting was standing on Li Youcai’s hand, and Suizi was holding Jiaojiao, untying the ropes and crying.

Little Yingtao had yelled in vain. He crawled up awkwardly.

"Jiaojiao! Are you okay!" Suizi checked Jiaojiao out thoroughly, and upon seeing the child unharmed, she embraced Jiaojiao and burst into tears, "You scared your sister-in-law to death!"

"Sister-in-law, I’m fine!"

Li’s mother, whose mouth was gagged, whined. Chen Hansui, you heartless woman, who are you kidding? It’s us mother and daughter who suffer now!

Yu Jingting brutally beat up Li Youcai.

First, he kidnapped his sister, then he attempted something with his wife, if he hadn’t promised Suizi not to go too far, he could have beaten Li Youcai to his death on the spot!

Jiaojiao and Little Yingtao, both huddled in Suizi’s arms, wanted to watch.

Jiaojiao saw blood dribbling from the corner of his mouth and screamed in fright.

She had seen it in outdoor movies!

She threw herself on the chubby boy and cried away.

At ten years old, a child loses their baby molars.

The chubby boy held up his fallen tooth like a trophy and presented it to Jiaojiao.

"Jiaojiao, look, it’s quite memorable. I’ll give it to you. Why don’t you have your brother drill a hole in it and make it a necklace?"

"No, thank you!"

Suizi watched as Jingting kept fighting and felt incredibly at peace seeing her husband in action and hearing the kids bicker.

It seemed like Mrs. Li had something to say, but Suizi wouldn’t let her speak.

"Are you saying we should be ’kind’, we shouldn’t be ruthless, and our actions tonight don’t make us good people, right?"

Mrs. Li nodded vigorously.

Just judging by their actions, the Yu Family weren’t saints either.

After all, who was the hostage and who was the bandit?

Suizi ignored Mrs. Li, her gaze falling on Jingting.

"Intelligence is a gift, good and evil are a choice. Our choices aren’t an excuse for you to be greedy. My family never does anything wrong, nor do we pretend to be saints. We’re just ordinary people protecting our choices with our gifts."

Mrs. Li was confused. What did that mean?

Jingting’s ears perked up. Maintaining his grip on Li Youcai’s collar, he casually added.

"If apologies worked, what use would there be for these fists of mine, or for jail?"

Suizi’s smile inched up. Intelligence was a rare gift, not everyone had it. He had it, and that’s why she admired him.

Suizi made it clear she didn’t intend to reconcile, and it seemed like she planned to send her son back to prison. Enraged, Mrs. Li cursed them internally.

Why weren’t the ancestors of the Li Family seeking revenge on the "ungracious" Yu Family?

"My Little Yingtao is gone!" Jiaojiao screamed, realizing it was missing from her pocket.

"Your sister-in-law can make another one." The chubby boy didn’t think her wool ball was anything special — it surely wasn’t as meaningful as the tooth he had lost.

"I had it in my hand earlier, it must have fallen over there!" pointing towards the pavilion.

"I’m on it." Suizi went over with a flashlight.

Jingting had knocked Li Youcai out cold just as his wife arrived, and he helped her to look for the wool ball.

The pavilion was old, its foundation had a big crack in it which was recent since Jingting hadn’t noticed it on his last trip to the mountains.

Jiaojiao’s wool ball must have rolled into it.

Jingting reached in to feel around and his expression slowly turned strange.

"What’s wrong?" Suizi was startled.

He hadn’t found a hibernating snake, had he?

"I think... Our ancestors from the Yu Family, have they shown a sign?"
