Chapter 1026: Chapter 1026 Yu Jingting and Suizi were both outwitted at the same time

Jinnan led Suizi and her husband back to the Hu Family, where she now had her own Courtyard. Old Master Hu was very righteous towards this goddaughter who seemed to have fallen from the sky; of course, the value Jinnan created for him was also an important factor in determining her status.

In Jianghu, loyalty is respected.

But profit is valued even more.

These unspoken mutual benefits were well understood and properly arranged, which in turn made for lasting relationships.

"You guys can rest here. There is a pool in the backyard where you can soak—just carve out a Jade Plate from this rock to cover the cleaning costs of the pool for me."

Jinnan said, touching the rock that Suizi won in her bet.

That was obviously a joke. Such a large rock could produce dozens or even hundreds of pieces; even if Jinnan didn’t ask, Suizi would select the best ones to give her a full set. One piece? That’s what you give to beggars!

"Hey, when did you become so stingy, charging for a bit of water?" Yu Jingting also joked with her.

Jinnan looked Suizi and Yu Jingting up and down with eyes filled with disdain: "The dirt that rubs off you two might just clog my drain, so it’s only right to charge a bit."

The insult was small, but the humiliation was strong; Suizi’s face turned red.

There was no helping it; her current attire was indeed shabby.

Yu Jingting pulled Suizi into the backyard. Jinnan truly knew how to enjoy life, having set up an outdoor bathing area with a stream of clear water running through, and trees naturally providing privacy. The courtyard was filled with the fragrance of flowers, and lying in the pool, one could even hear the birds chirping.

Next to the pool stood warmed rice wine, and beauties in local tube skirts offered towels and soap. Suizi could imagine the heavenly life Jinnan led here.

"Living life like this is pretty carefree. I think Jinnan really doesn’t care whether she gets married or not."

Suizi felt that Jinnan was the type of person who focused on her career as the main storyline of her life. Getting married and having children were just sidelines for her—something she could do or not do, which is why she could so casually say that she would "leave her father and not have children," right?

Before she had time to envy her, Suizi felt a sharp pain in her waist.

"Why did you pinch me!" Suizi whined pitifully.

Yu Jingting’s gaze was dangerous.

"What’s the matter, you want to learn from her?"

Suizi pouted and muttered softly, "If I hadn’t met you, wouldn’t I have followed her example?"

Then she added sycophantically, "But I think the life I’m living now is better."

"Ha, look at you, you seem so reluctant, missing the days of being a spinster, right? Without a family, you’re like a fish in water," he said sourly.

"How could that be?" Suizi conscientiously began undressing.

A move called "Dragon Shedding Its Armor"! The cure for all moods.

And Yu Jingting was that dragon...

Old Master Hu received the news and rushed straight to Jinnan’s Courtyard.

According to eyewitnesses, Jinnan led a man into the courtyard. Old Master Hu rushed over nonstop, and upon pushing the door open, his voice boomed like a bell:

"I heard you brought a man back. Where’s the lad, let me have a look—ah!!!"

Jinnan sat in a rocking chair, sipping tea from a teacup, gently savouring the fruit-scented Dianhong tea, serene and tranquil.

What made Old Master Hu exclaim, however, was the hundred-kilogram boulder in front of her. How could this be... it looked so familiar?

"Isn’t this... the rock from that Old Cockroach’s house?"

"Yes." Jinnan drank tea.

"You bought it?!" Old Master Hu felt a heart attack coming on, clutching his chest. Where was his medicine?

He had been free today and in a rather good mood.

His son, Yu Shuisheng, was so capable, making the Jade Factory thrive in the inland and beating the Zhang Family black and blue. The goddaughter they had tricked Suizi and her husband to bring back had even captured a second marshal.

So, during this period, Old Master Hu had been enjoying some of the most comfortable days of recent years.

He even thought that since he had nothing better to do today, he might stroll to the Zhang Family’s stall and mock the rock, "Oh, after so many years, it still hasn’t been sold?"

With a turn of his head, he was home.

Old Master Hu felt as if he had been struck by thunder out of the clear sky, hit hard.

"It wasn’t me who bought it."

"Then which idiot did? Who’s the fool with more money than sense, step forward and let me see."

"Old man, haven’t seen you in a few days, and your mouth is still as sharp, huh!"

Yu Jingting looked fresh, strolling out with Suizi in his arms.

Jinnan was thoughtful, preparing local outfits for him and Suizi. Yu Jingting changed into a dark blue mandarin jacket, and Suizi donned a fitted sheath dress, a flower pinned beside her temple.

"So you guys arrived today, eh? Good, you still have some filial piety—but wait, explain this rock to me," Old Master Hu said with joy in his eyes upon seeing Yu Jingting and Suizi.

These two kids held a different meaning in his heart.

But this joy was fleeting, turning quickly to anger.

"You didn’t buy that worthless rock that the old cockroach couldn’t sell, did you?"

The ones with the means to buy that stone were none other than Jinnan, or the couple, Yu Jingting and Suizi.

"It was me."

"...Someone grab him and throw him out for me, tie him to a tree and burn him!" bellowed Old Master Hu, his anger thunderous.

If that old cockroach found out, he’d be squatting at his door, laughing his dentures out!

"Grandpa, can we wait until we’re done cutting it, then you can burn him?" Suizi replied with a giggle.

"Cut... Well, okay, cut if you must. All of you, bring the stone-cutting machine over here and don’t alert anyone. Lock the doors and don’t let even a dog in!"

Old Master Hu decided to cut the stone stealthily so that even if they ended up with a pile of junk, no one outside would know. Later, he’d figure out a way to bring out the treasure at the bottom of his family chest, pretending it was cracked open by the two youngsters.

"How can I rest assured leaving the family business to you? You’re supposed to inherit the mine—anyone can be reckless, except you! Ah, buying such a big worthless rock, it’s suffocating me."

"Grandpa, please calm down." As Suizi tried to placate the old master, she also pondered what wasn’t quite right?

Yu Jingting was quick to react and immediately grew alert: "Inheriting the mine? Since when?"

His eyes began to dart around, realizing something was amiss, ready to grab Suizi and run.

Old Master Hu roared: "Close the doors! Somebody tie up this unfilial grandson for me!"

Suizi, too, realized something was wrong, glanced subconsciously at Jinnan, only to see her still savoring her tea. With a heavy heart, Suizi lamented:

"Sister, you’re betraying me too?"

Jinnan took a delicate sip.

"No, I’m neutral. It’s your father-in-law and the old master who are in cahoots."

Her implication was clear: not joining to hold down Yu Jingting was her way of being neutral.

"Bring the documents and the ink pad!" Old Master Hu’s voice boomed like thunder. Two men came over to hold Yu Jingting down. When he tried to resist, the old master glared at him.

"If you dare to retaliate, I’ll shave your wife’s head bald!"

Yu Jingting, who had never cowered in his life, cowed.

Suizi covered her mouth.

"Grandpa, I haven’t offended you or my father-in-law, have I? You wouldn’t scheme against us like this, would you?"

Old Master Hu turned his back, refusing to look at Suizi, avoiding any flickers of guilt, and after seeing Yu Jingting pressed his handprint, he motioned Suizi to do the same with a nod of his chin.

"You too, go press yours. From now on, the old mine will belong to both of you."

Suizi finally understood why her father-in-law had such a cunning and sly smile before they set out.

It was all a ruse!
