Chapter 1012: Chapter 1012: No One Knows a Daughter Better Than Her Father
A deputy chief physician stepped forward, she was responsible for Chen Lijun’s fetal turning.
Seeing her, Suizi looked to the chief physician nearby.
This chief physician was someone Fan Huang had found, and noticing Suizi’s glance, the chief immediately said,
"Initially, I was supposed to handle it, but I’ve burnt my hand and don’t have the strength."
Only then did Suizi pay attention to the chief’s right hand, which was wrapped in gauze. This was at least a second-degree burn, or else there wouldn’t have been a need for bandages.
"Director Zhao is extremely experienced in performing external cephalic versions, she’s even more specialized than me in this area." The chief thought Suizi was worried about the change and repeatedly assured her.
"Of course, thank you for your trouble."
Suizi offered several words of polite conversation, showing no sign of reluctance, making it difficult for anyone to guess her true emotions.
But upon leaving the hospital, she turned to go to the company to find Yu Jingting.
Yu Jingting rented a row of factory buildings in the capital for his office, and the couple planned to buy the property by the end of the year. Real estate wasn’t in Suizi’s five-year plan, but taking advantage of the cheap land prices to stockpile a few plots in the capital was still doable.
When Suizi arrived, she just happened to see Yu Tiegen strolling towards the company.
"Dad, what brings you here?" Suizi greeted him.
"You’ve come at just the right time, I was about to discuss something with you two."
Yu Tiegen’s minefield headquarters was not far from Yu Jingting’s company, just a ten-minute walk, so sometimes the father and son could go home together.
Seeing Yu Tiegen looking pleased, Suizi guessed it must be good news and couldn’t help being curious.
Inside, Yu Jingting was perched on the table, grasping a large enamel jar and bragging to his subordinates.
"After finishing my wife’s sweet and sour pork, let me tell you about the bear’s paw dish she makes—have you bumpkins ever tried it?"
The staff all shook their heads in unison, swallowing their saliva.
They hadn’t even heard of it, let alone tried it.
"That dish is really tricky to make, lazy wives simply wouldn’t bother, but my wife is different. She embodies virtue and grace; if I don’t eat well, she can’t sleep at night. One evening, I woke up to see my wife wiping away tears, guess why?"
Suizi’s hand paused in mid-air, stopping her knocking on the door.
"My wife felt sorry for me, saying, ’Jingting, you’ve lost weight. Shall I make you some imitation bear’s paw to nourish you?’ I immediately bellowed at her, telling her, ’Woman, you’re so stingy and narrow-minded. Making just one for the cat? Whip up two!’
The room immediately filled with hisses of disbelief; they suspected the boss was boasting.
Suizi blinked; she didn’t remember this episode at all.
Yu Tiegen was about to cough to alert his son to stop the tall tale when he heard the "dutiful son" inside saying,
"Man, my domestic standing is rock solid. My old man just doesn’t cut it."
"????" Yu Tiegen swallowed his cough.
"My dad’s just scared of my mom. She just has to glare at him, and he doesn’t dare to fart."
Suizi glanced at Yu Tiegen, whose expression was priceless.
"Dad, don’t hit him in the face, he still has contracts to sign in the next few days," said the virtuous wife Chen Hansui.
What she meant was if you’re going to hit that deservedly smacked guy, aim for his backside; he’s thick-skinned enough to take it.
"Blow a little softer, or you’ll blow the roof right off," Yu Tiegen said as he kicked at the door and Yu Jingting jumped down from the table.
"Disperse, get back to work! Don’t you see the old master has come to inspect?"
The staff scattered, but a question lingered in their minds, what exactly was an imitation bear’s paw?
Yu Tiegen grabbed Yu Jingting’s arm and twisted it, causing him to howl in pain.
"Today I’ll dislocate your shoulder for you. What imitation bear’s paw, pig’s trotters in sauce is more like it," Yu Tiegen growled through gritted teeth.
"That might be a tad salty... cough cough. Dad, did you want to see us about something?" Suizi, after all, felt sympathetic towards the scoundrel Yu Tiegen and shifted the topic.
Yu Tiegen let go, and Yu Jingting winced as he moved his shoulder, thinking that the old man was incredibly rough with his own son, tsk.
"I called you here to talk about Jinnan. Jinnan has secured the territory for the old man, and the old man is so delighted he wants to credit both of you for the success."
Jinnan was the one Suizi and her husband recommended to Old Master Hu. Her abilities were obvious to everyone, as she had reclaimed the territories the old man lost. The old master made a point of calling and showering Fourth Master with praises.
The son and daughter-in-law being so outstanding made Fourth Master happy as well.
"The old master is about to have his grand birthday celebration soon. You and Suizi find time to visit; go the day after tomorrow. You can return after the birthday celebration, so as not to delay Suizi from taking care of your mother-in-law."
Yu Jingting listened to Fourth Master stating it so casually and raised an eyebrow.
"Dad, what mischief are you up to? A birthday celebration is a big deal, and you didn’t notify us earlier. Why wait until the last minute to hurry us over?"
Fourth Master suppressed the smile tugging at the corners of his mouth, trying to look less pleased with himself and pretended to be angry as he scolded, "Just go if I tell you to go. Would your father harm you?!"
"That’s not necessarily true," Yu Jingting muttered under his breath.
Fourth Master felt like smacking him again.
"Dad, such a big occasion as the old master’s birthday, and you’re not going?" Suizi also felt there might be something fishy going on.
If it’s the day after tomorrow, she could just manage to wrap up her mother’s affairs, so it wouldn’t conflict.
But she always felt her father-in-law’s smile was conniving, as if he were plotting something.
Fourth Master straightened his back, putting on a display of being utterly impartial.
"I would like to go, but how busy is my work? The consultancy at the minefield was something your dad insisted on shoving onto me. I have to serve the people. Alright, that settles it; you two head over, and wear this, Suizi."
Fourth Master fished out a box from his pocket and tossed it to Suizi.
Opening it, Yu Jingting stretched his neck to look and made a cutting remark.
"Glorious, a bracelet ground out of the bottom of a beer bottle. I’ve grinded one for my wife back in the day!"
When he was the factory director at the brewery, he had his pick of beer bottles!
Fourth Master kicked him.
"Your damn beer bottles! This is a raw gemstone from the newly excavated old mines. Your mother can’t wear this ring size, but it fits Suizi just right."
"Dad, this is such an expensive item. Don’t throw it. What if it cracks?"
Suizi had wanted to politely decline, but seeing the size of the bracelet, neither Jiaojiao nor her mother could wear it.
The bracelet was too exquisite, leaving no ground for refusal. Her hand had its own ideas and slipped it right on.
Seeing Suizi happy, Yu Jingting came over and draped his arm over his dad’s shoulder, his expression one of brotherly affection.
"Dad, good things come in pairs, and jewelry comes in sets. A single bracelet feels bare and lacks sincerity. Representing you, we can’t go dress too shabbily—’Distance tests a horse’s strength, time reveals a person’s heart.’ How about another one, would that be alright?"
Fourth Master shook his head.
"No more."
Yu Jingting moved like lightning, his hand shooting into Fourth Master’s pocket; he had seen the bulge!
"You little rascal, is this a robbery?!" Fourth Master tried to keep hold of his pocket, but it was too late.
Yu Jingting pulled out another box and tossed it to Suizi.
She caught it and instantly pocketed it: "Thank you, Dad!"
These two scamps, they sure had a way of scheming together perfectly, Fourth Master fumed.
"Fine, I’ll give it to you. But you two better take the birthday seriously."
Yu Jingting and Suizi both bowed, don’t you worry~
Fourth Master pretended to be very angry and left huffing and puffing.
Once out of the office, Fourth Master’s lips curled up crazily.
"The idea from the in-laws was just brilliant. To trick Yu Tiegen into going, we needed to bribe Suizi first. Nobody knows a daughter like her father."
Fan Huang, the sly old fox, had not only anticipated that Suizi would accept the bracelet but even guessed that Yu Jingting would rifle through his pockets for the earrings.
Impressive in-laws.
