I Am Also An Extraordinary Creature -

Chapter 652: Chapter 487 Dragon’s Nest_1
"Oh ho! Look, leaving for less than a year and my nest is all fine without a single problem." After arriving at the designated place, the fire dragon smiled broadly, which from the dragon’s perspective might be considered a smile, but from a human perspective, it was rather frightening.
The people present weren’t ordinary folks, they were used to it... right?
Zheng Yichen noticed that the two witches seemed a bit uncomfortable.
They had never seen a dragon before, and though they had always been improving, the extraordinary creatures they were accustomed to were primarily acquired through supply channels. This was actually their first face-to-face encounter with a dragon.
The fire dragon wasn’t paying attention to this. Perhaps in the dragon’s view, the subtle changes in human expressions weren’t worth much attention.
"Let’s go inside first."
The fire dragon deactivated the magic protecting its nest. Naturally, where a dragon resides, there would be protective magic. Klakauska was proficient in Fire type magic, and there were many spells in her repertoire that served to protect the nest.
Moreover, the place was a volcano, so with a series of protective magics in place, there were even fewer people who could make it here directly.
"So many corpses," Katrina whispered beside Zheng Yichen, her voice so low she thought the fire dragon couldn’t hear, but Klakauska heard her very clearly.
Dragons are huge creatures, but their massive size doesn’t mean they are slow-witted. Their hearing is exceptionally keen. Even in their dragon form, they can hear a pin drop, a sound not all humans could detect.
"Humph, pay no mind to these bodies. They are just people who coveted the dragon’s hoard," the fire dragon hummed lightly, baring its teeth in a smile that looked sinister to humans, "Those who left behind bodies must have been fairly strong. The weak ones don’t even leave remains."
Even so, most of the corpses were either charred or reduced to skeletons. The fire dragon’s protection naturally revolved around fire. In the face of its fiery power, the invading dead were either turned to ash or left blackened.
"These intruders occasionally make for a little snack."
"What??" Katrina’s eyes widened, believing the fire dragon’s words. In her world, though dragons were legendary, tales of dragons eating humans had always existed.
"Just kidding! What’s there to eat in humans?" The fire dragon waved its claw, turning the charred corpses to ashes, "They’re merely emergency rations at best."
The deeper they moved into the dragon’s nest, the fewer corpses there were on the path. This gave Zheng Yichen a new appreciation for Klakauska’s strength.
In the lower environmental levels of Hazy City, the fire dragon might seem a bit weaker, but in this world, although not at the very top, it was already dominant among most powerful beings.
The array of protection spells linked to this volcano ensured a secure defense for her nest. Most invaders were repelled halfway to the nest, and while the more capable ones got closer, they ultimately remained at the true entrance.
"This person must have been a high-end thief among the human race," the fire dragon remarked, examining a body at the entrance of her dragon’s nest.
The corpse hadn’t decayed due to the environment but had mummified due to a lack of moisture. After inspecting it, the fire dragon confidently ascertained the profession of the deceased: "If it had been a caster, there definitely wouldn’t be a body left."
Katrina asked curiously, "May I ask why that is?"
"That’s easy to answer. I’ve set up a very powerful Fire type protective magic here. If one attacks forcefully, they will face a fire backlash. If a caster fails to break it, their magic power is ignited. The stronger the magic power, the harsher the backlash. Only warriors or thieves with less magic power could leave relatively intact corpses... Let me search."
The fire dragon looked around as it explained and soon found a dark stain, "This is it. A caster definitely died here. Before they perished, they rolled around and left these marks."
Zheng Yichen walked to the spot indicated by the fire dragon and scooped up a handful of the black ash, rubbing it between his fingers, "I must say, you’re quite experienced."
"Tsk tsk, you learn after seeing a lot. As a dragon, one must get used to such occurrences. Women, cover your ears." With that, the fire dragon took flight and let out a long dragon roar into the sky. The deafening roar spread throughout the entire volcano, even causing some agitation in the volcano itself, but it was quickly quelled as the fire dragon landed.
In her home world, Klakauska was quite powerful. After reasserting her presence, the fire dragon said, "There, that should keep people away from here for a while."
For dragons, a year is nothing, but for humans, it’s a long time. One only needs to look at those bodies on the road to understand. Based on the experience of living long and seeing much, the fire dragon could generally determine the time of death of those bodies, and thus infer what had befallen its den during that time.
It seems that the invasion started about four months ago. Initially, the invasion might have been exploratory. After the news spread, these invasions began to grow excessive, although the information was not fully comprehended by everyone.
Concerning matters of interest, people generally came in small squads, for with fewer numbers, it meant they could divide more of the dragon’s treasure among themselves.
A large-scale invasion... well, let’s put it this way, as a dragon, knowing that my kin’s den had been invaded, I wouldn’t mind taking the initiative to protect it, especially when the owners of those dens couldn’t return in time or were never coming back.
In cases where they can’t come back in time, such actions could be considered protecting the assets of my kin. Afterwards, if my kin found me there, I could take a share of the treasure. If they never returned, I could only accept the inheritance with tears in my eyes. Surely, those who can never return to their dens wouldn’t want their inheritance to fall into the hands of outsiders, right?
In any case, my return is still ahead of time, and the invaders have not yet reached the point of outrageous boldness. The roars of anger I let out earlier were a warning, cautioning those eyeing this place not to get ahead of themselves, as the owner of the dragon’s nest has returned.
A dragon’s nest guarded by a dragon and a dragon’s nest temporarily without its dragon are challenges at two different levels.
"My den is splendid, isn’t it?" The fire dragon opened its den and displayed its ’home’.
Zheng Yichen surveyed the den shown by the fire dragon, which was not like what he had imagined before—a giant cavern heaped with vast treasure, with a dragon laying atop the hoard, laughing heartily.
Actually, it looked quite nice, though not conforming to human aesthetic standards, but very much in line with a dragon’s aesthetic. The den was adequately adorned with decorative items; the fire dragon’s bed was a huge ’nest’ somewhat similar to a bird’s, yet overall quite uniform, and within the nest, coins and gems were added as if they were merely decorative accents.
It did give off a bit of a nouveau riche vibe, yet it wasn’t just a pile of treasure haphazardly thrown together regardless of type.
The fire dragon noticed Zheng Yichen’s gaze on its nest and promptly explained, "A dragon’s scales are very hard. Placing some hard coins and gems in the den makes sleeping more comfortable. Also, a dragon’s treasure is generally not just tossed around; don’t think of us as savages!"
The fire dragon stressed this point.
It used its claw to open a stone cabinet that, by its thickness alone, exceeded two meters. To Zheng Yichen, it seemed like a kind of safe. There were faintly glowing magic array formation lines within the cabinet. As it was opened, the contents immediately attracted the attention of the females present.
Well, it was not just women who would be tempted—even men would be moved.
Inside it was a resplendent array of gold. Various Gold Coins were placed on different tiers, and gems along with other treasures were all categorized.
Zheng Yichen walked over for a closer look, noting that the coins were arranged according to style; they were stacked together, but their types were not mixed up.
Some coins even bore an aura of special power. Such coins made up about a tenth of the total, while the other treasures were either artworks or magic tools.
A common feature was that, aside from the gems, most of these treasures were made of gold.
"Don’t be shy, just take whatever you like," the fire dragon said nonchalantly, waving a grand gesture. This cabinet was just a small part of its collection, and even if it were all lost... well, if it were stolen, the dragon would be furious and reluctant to let it go, but if Zheng Yichen wanted something, that was fine. After all, Zheng Yichen would later be involved in even bigger affairs.
"Could the things here be enough to buy that house we talked about earlier?" Zheng Yichen picked up a Gold Coin and examined it. This coin didn’t seem to be an antique from this world; it even had a year of manufacture on it.
"Certainly, but the key is whether the other party is willing to sell. Mages generally aren’t short of money," pondered the fire dragon. "That old man is nearly dead; money is even less important to him now."
This was also why the fire dragon felt somewhat annoyed at that old man’s request back then. Dragon Blood was one thing; it didn’t want to bother making an extra trip, so it just gave it away, but dragon marrow? As a wealthy dragon, it could just use money to buy things later—why suffer the agony of digging out its own dragon marrow?
Removing part of the marrow had a considerable impact on a dragon; blood could be replenished quickly after a short rest, but if marrow was extracted, it wouldn’t be restored in less than a year or half. The more that was taken, the slower the recovery.
"I’ll find some useful things," the fire dragon said as it headed to another part of the den. As for the contents of the huge stone cabinet it had opened, Zheng Yichen and the others were free to choose anything they liked.
Zheng Yichen casually tossed a few Gold Coins into the Universal Toolbox inside his motorcycle. Seeing that the fire dragon didn’t hide his actions, he walked over. The fire dragon, paying him no mind, opened another stone cabinet covered by magic in front of Zheng Yichen. This chest was not large and was like the typical treasure chests found in RPG games...
