Chapter 63: Chapter 61: They’re Not Stupid_1
```
"We’re heading to a vampire nest, and a long spear isn’t going to be very useful there, so you need to be prepared for that," John said to Zheng Yichen. Training together was one thing, but equipment and weaponry were not his responsibility.
They trained here on a regular basis, and after training, everyone had their own private lives to attend to. Matters like weapons and gear were for each individual to sort out. John only reminded Zheng Yichen of this; what to do was ultimately up to Zheng Yichen himself.
"After training, take a good rest today. We’ll set out tomorrow."
"How’s the person I found?" Raymond asked John over drinks at the tavern.
John pondered for a moment and then praised, "Fantastic, his body is like a bull’s—more agile, even. He’s simply too outstanding!"
The person who had been training with Zheng Yichen during this time was him, and his skills were better than Zheng Yichen’s. However, Zheng Yichen’s physical condition far surpassed his, and this training had also provided him with improvement. He felt that with this training experience, he could even hold his own against some minor giants for a few more moves.
"Stronger than all of us?"
"Yes, he improves rapidly during training. In just a few days, it’s as if we’ve been training for a month."
"I understand. It looks like the success of this mission is even more certain."
"Of course, captain, the person you found is really good," John said, taking a big swig of his drink. As an experienced Hunter-Demon, he was acutely aware of the huge help a strong teammate could provide. They were up against a vampire nest that housed multiple vampires.
An extra comrade could share much of the burden, but that comrade absolutely couldn’t be a liability; otherwise, they would not only fail to relieve any pressure but actually become a weapon in the hands of the enemy.
Zheng Yichen’s willpower was good; he could resist the vampires’ vile spells.
In the hotel, with his upper body bare, Zheng Yichen lay on the bed while Katrina, with bright eyes, admired the muscles on his back. During the battle with the Headless Knight, things were too urgent for her to appreciate Zheng Yichen’s muscles. Now there was no such urgency.
She found his strong muscles irresistible, and the feeling was simply too wonderful.
Moreover, she had a justifiable reason to touch these magnificent muscles, as she now had to draw the appropriate magic array formation on Zheng Yichen’s body.
"Not refuge magic, but Blessing Magic," Zheng Yichen insisted.
"Wouldn’t refuge magic be safer?" Katrina asked, a little puzzled.
"There will be others in this fight. Refuge magic might reveal their presence," Zheng Yichen explained.
"I see." Katrina began drawing the Blessing Magic on Zheng Yichen’s back. This couldn’t shield Zheng Yichen from the attacks of evil creatures, but it would grant him strong resistance against evil spells, even to the point of immunizing him from the effects of that magic.
"Your skin is like that of nobility," commented the Forest Witch, admiring Zheng Yichen’s back.
"In the world I come from, not to mention everyone, but at least the majority have breakfasts that are better than those of the nobility here. It’s just that many people don’t like their breakfasts to be so elaborate."
Zheng Yichen’s response was not so much about waxing lyrical to the two witches as it was stating a fact.
```
Katrina was extremely meticulous when drawing the magic array formation, and by the time she finished, half an hour had passed. Zheng Yichen stood up and got dressed. The crayon he used had excellent adhesion—unless one sweated profusely or rubbed vigorously, the drawn patterns were difficult to wash off. The symbols previously drawn on him had only fully washed away two days before.
"Keep this with you," Zheng Yichen said as he took his backpack. When he would leave tomorrow, he planned to take only a power bank, a hand-cranked charger, and his phone with him.
As for weapons, besides the fishing rod, there was only a shotgun. The pistols and hand cannons were left with the backpack, to be used by the two witches in an emergency. Zheng Yichen really didn’t want to comment on the fighting ability of the two witches. Quite frankly, if a strong individual stormed into this bedroom, they could easily overpower the two and rub them out, so their combat effectiveness was dubious.
Anything else would just be superfluous to carry.
"If you want to watch movies, use the computer. Don’t get caught when using the solar charging panel... Never mind, just use the hand-cranked charger," Zheng Yichen instructed, and Katrina carefully noted everything down.
Raymond had been waiting at the meeting place since early the next day. He raised an eyebrow slightly upon seeing the weapon wrapped in cloth that Zheng Yichen carried, "This kind of gun should be used sparingly; it’s too easy to draw attention."
"I also don’t want to use it too much. Once a bullet is fired, it’s gone. There’s no place to resupply. I’m carrying it just in case."
Before long, John and the others also arrived in succession. They were no longer in their casual training gear but fully armed and equipped. The townspeople’s imagined image of a Hunter-Demon fit Zheng Yichen to a T.
Every piece of equipment they carried was practical, and there were also some small pouches hanging from their bodies containing items Zheng Yichen wasn’t familiar with.
As for Zheng Yichen... Well, his setup was much simpler. His modern protective combat suit was covered by a cloak, a utility pouch at his waist held electronic devices and emergency medicine, and his weapons were the shotgun plus the bullets in his pocket and the damaged, irreparable fishing rod.
"Is everyone ready? Then let’s move out!"
"..."
On the way, Zheng Yichen was filled with regret. Yes, intense regret for not learning how to ride a horse proficiently in the few short days. He had fancied riding a white horse with a girl, but now he found himself having to ride with another man!
Raymond had prepared horses, but Zheng Yichen was not skilled at horseback riding. He would roar in frustration each day after training when out with Katrina, who had taught him to ride. By now, Zheng Yichen managed to ride slowly on his own, but urging the horse into a gallop was still beyond him.
Fortunately, the vampire nest was not as far away as Zheng Yichen had thought.
"This is the place. No need to hide anything; we act directly," Raymond declared decisively. Seeing Zheng Yichen’s confusion, he added, "Those vampires can use bats for surveillance. The moment we arrived here, we were already exposed."
"What puzzles me is, if this place is so close to the city, why hasn’t the church come?"
"These vampires aren’t brainless. They would run as soon as the church’s people arrive, otherwise, it wouldn’t be the Hunter-Demon’s problem," Raymond snorted. The vampires were not foolish; the church would come in great numbers and crush them outright.
Vampires looking to escape were hard to intercept.
It was different with Hunter-Demons; their small numbers and robust bodies made them an attractive source of nourishment for vampires. The current number of Hunter-Demons present was just enough to give the vampires the confidence they could take them down.
Moreover, the Hunter-Demons came with the purpose of confronting vampires. The vampires could easily wait in comfort for their arrival. There would be no shortage of traps on the way—there was no need for stealth, just a straightforward push through.
