Chapter 542: Chapter 417 The Role of Insects_1
The busy staff had expected the Proxy Agent to be horribly disfigured from the explosion, with a body tattered and torn. However, the image of the Proxy Agent, other than being a bit pale, showed no missing arms or legs. Even the surprised expression upon spotting the detector had been captured in the photo.
Was this the face of someone with faint life force, on the brink of death?
Although Zheng Yichen looked quite different from the recorded image, with his pale hair, dark red eyes, and skin complexion akin to that of a dead person, he nevertheless seemed to be in good spirits, certainly not someone on the verge of death.
Just as they were about to risk an attempt to pass through the space-time rift, a figure emerged from it...
"Yo, good evening," Zheng Yichen waved and greeted a stunned worker.
The item in the worker’s hand clattered to the ground, "Do you, do you need a physical examination? You don’t seem to be in very good shape."
This worker was no ordinary person; none who worked here were. With a rift that large, if something emerged, there would be nowhere for an ordinary person to run.
Moreover, upon inspection, a kind of death radiation was detected within the rift, an influence that an average person could not withstand.
The worker could sense that Zheng Yichen’s physical condition was highly abnormal. No wonder the detector had triggered such an urgent alarm. The young man in front of him might look healthy, but a slight sense of his condition revealed... he seemed to be a dead man.
"That won’t be necessary, my bike is okay, right?" Leading with his concern, Zheng Yichen spotted the high-tech motorcycle with the projection of Lilith, which stood out awkwardly in this native workplace setting.
The scratches on his bike made Zheng Yichen feel a bit distressed; it was his newly upgraded ride, after all.
"Ahem, sorry, this lady refused to let us run some tests," the worker picked up the dropped item, expressing his situation helplessly.
If it had been a normal motorcycle they would have inspected it, and with their technology, they could even restore it to a brand new state. But this bike had a high level of artificial intelligence, which made checking the bike’s condition not so simple.
"I’ll go check it out myself," Zheng Yichen walked towards his motorcycle, and the other staff members also began to take notice of the situation. Since Zheng Yichen had emerged from the rift, he would surely know something about the other side, and some tasks could be set aside for now.
"BOSS, welcome back," Lilith’s projection spoke, "You need to adjust your physical condition properly."
Her database recorded that not long ago, Zheng Yichen only had a mild case of ’Yin-Yang Imbalance’, but now it seemed he was almost a dead man.
"I also feel that my current condition is quite terrible," Zheng Yichen looked up at the sky. Once back in the Mortal Realm, he had started to feel slightly unwell; the air here was not as sweet and pleasant as Hell.
"Greetings, Proxy Agent Your Excellency, My name is Roger, and I’m the manager here," a man in formal attire hastened over, introducing himself with sincere tones, "We will provide all the assistance you require."
The main crises of the world had been resolved, and although the space-time rift blasted open didn’t disappear and seemed irreparable for now, the immediate threats to the world had diminished.
The bugs had undergone some changes after the moving anomalies vanished, showing signs of devolution and not being as formidable as before. Nevertheless, dealing with them remained one of the top priorities.
Among other critical matters was dealing with the space-time rift, investigating it, and, most importantly, finding the Proxy Agent. Now that the Proxy Agent had voluntarily returned, it saved them a great deal of effort.
"Then provide me with some new materials," Zheng Yichen touched his motorcycle and looked at a projected screen displaying self-diagnostic information of the bike. The exterior damage wasn’t too severe; it just needed a new paint job... Well, an application of a special coating that enhanced the bike’s energy-absorption effectiveness.
Some internal parts of the bike, however, had problems. When resisting the explosion, certain components had operated way beyond their capacity. If not for the upgraded onboard computer, it could have blown up Lilith’s housing completely.
But the special ’Light Core’ processors of this world were more robust, without many issues, except that the electromagnetic barrier generator was completely ruined.
There were also a bunch of other minor issues, but some materials inside the bike were preserved. According to Zheng Yichen’s review of the records, during the great explosion, protective resources had been primarily focused on preserving the loot...
Zheng Yichen silently lowered the priority of the loot protection.
"Of course, our tech department is already making preparations," the on-site manager said briskly, and not wanting to stop there, he started recommending some more powerful weapons to Zheng Yichen, like an arms dealer pitching his wares.
If it weren’t for Zheng Yichen’s poor condition, he might have wanted to drag Zheng Yichen into a room to show off the weapons data in detail.
"Let’s put the equipment aside for now, I’m not in a hurry to leave. How are those insects doing?"
"Insects?" The person in charge, Roger, paused briefly before responding, "Proxy Agent, you can rest now. The rest is our responsibility... At least let us handle this matter personally."
At this point, the well-dressed man showed a bitter expression: "We were powerless in the face of a world crisis, and now we cannot even resolve such matters, so how can we deal with the Boundary Breakers of the Great World?"
Roger felt that this Proxy Agent was taking on too much responsibility. Although they knew that a Proxy Agent had no way out, after solving the main issue, this Proxy Agent was still concerned about subsequent problems.
"Hahahaha, I can’t just run around the world right now dealing with those insects. After all, a Proxy Agent needs a break too. I just need to understand the situation with those insects to see if I can recover some strength."
Zheng Yichen stretched out his palm and gave it a slight squeeze, and a dense plume of the Power of Death emerged: "I need enough Life Force to neutralize my current state."
"I see, we will arrange all of this," Roger said with sudden realization, nodding. "Let those world-threatening insects serve an additional purpose!"
Zheng Yichen, having agreed to this, then realized he had underestimated the technology of this world.
He had just returned to the city where the Dusk Cathedral was located, and people were already there to greet him and arrange subsequent affairs. In a building near the Dusk Cathedral, they prepared what Zheng Yichen ’needed’.
The city was now under military control; flying craft could be seen coming and going in the sky. These crafts’ propulsors emitted not flames but another form of converted energy stream.
Several transport planes hovered above the building, and boxes after boxes were dropped from above, delivered into the building.
What Zheng Yichen ’needed’ was a huge machine that took up three floors of the building. How it was put in there was a way that seemed brutal but was done for efficiency.
"The insect nests formed by those insects draw life from the earth to reproduce. The insects need to be eliminated, but it can be done more efficiently." A lady said, looking at the machine: "This machine can extract the Life Force from the insects."
"Hmm... let me try it first," said Zheng Yichen, as he handed over a tablet to the lady beside him. The tablet contained information he wrote about Hell; spatial fissures connected Hell to this world, and the boundaries between life and death were more stringent here.
Zheng Yichen could ignore the influence of Hell, but the people in this world might not be able to.
"Thank you for your help," the young woman said, sincerely taking the tablet.
Then it was time to use the machine. According to the lady’s introduction, this device was originally used for pharmaceutical manufacturing in this world.
It processed certain domestic animals, producing a vital substance that acted as a supplement in many of the local world’s medicines, enhancing their effects.
Now, this machine could be directly used on the insects, which, though their life structures were peculiar, had undergone mutations with the absence of their true mothers. The controlled mutations meant that their bodies no longer served the express purpose of combat against Zheng Yichen.
The nutrients that should have filled their bodies became more like the ’blood’ a living creature should have, rather than being in an intentional state of bio-robots. When Zheng Yichen fought the insects, no Life Force existed in their bodies’ nutrients.
The Life Force was a transformation of the nutrients they consumed, and this transformation happened in an amount just as needed without excess, hence effectively restraining Zheng Yichen’s extraordinary abilities.
However, now that the insects had mutated, Zheng Yichen could have even balanced his own physical issues simply by hunting them. But he only learned about this after arriving in the city, and not all the insects had mutated to such a degree.
So, the machine became quite useful.
A large number of captured insects were brought here, then burnt as fuel to be transformed into a material form of Life Force. This substance could exist either in material form or be catalyzed back into a form of Life Force.
But the latter form was like pure oxygen – direct intake could be problematic. Zheng Yichen was immune to such issues, and after a trial, he felt he wanted one of these machines for himself... well, he’d ask about it later. After all, considering what he had done, he’d feel perfectly justified in taking it.
