Chapter 538: Chapter 413 Late Support_1
"Next time, you won’t be so lucky," the Arriver said calmly, intercepting Zheng Yichen, ignoring the hole that had pierced through his chest. He remained as such; if this Boundary Breaker and his adaptability to power were just a bit more developed, he wouldn’t have ended so ’miserably.’
The cost of obstructing Zheng Yichen was severe.
"I’ll be waiting," Zheng Yichen rotated his long spear, and the bursting wind shredded the Arriver in front of him, who could already be considered a corpse. His blood had been drained, and only a force was maintaining his condition that allowed him to speak.
As the Arriver in front of him was torn apart, he saw streaks of light rising in the distance. This was also the first time Zheng Yichen had witnessed the retreat of the Boundary Breakers.
He had no intention of sitting back and doing nothing. The speed of those streaks of light was different from the velocity of ’Ming Yue’ when she left, like a changing meteor; he could still intercept them... The trembling of the earth, however, stopped Zheng Yichen in his tracks.
Looking down at the dense swarm of insects below, those insects, stimulated by something, rapidly disintegrated and merged into the flesh carpet beneath. A huge bulge appeared on the ground, signaling that some kind of creature was about to Escape from below.
Zheng Yichen’s eyes widened at the sight of the rapidly gathering heat source.
Without any hesitation, he accelerated forward and plunged into the dark earth with his black long spear, piercing the huge heat source below. In the next instant, he escaped from underground at an even greater speed, the spear stirring the surrounding tendrils.
The destroyed tendrils turned into blood foam scattered around the environment, consumed by Hellfire until nothing remained. A dark red, cancerous flesh ball emerged from the ground, prompting a slight twitch in the corner of Zheng Yichen’s eye.
The creature’s tendrils, resembling those of a sea urchin, writhed and occasionally dropped chunks of flesh. The fallen chunks turned directly into new insects upon landing.
Under Zheng Yichen’s gaze, a myriad of cracks emerged on the ’cancerous’ surface. A grotesque monster, seeming to be made from piled-up flesh, tore through the surface and emerged. It gave Zheng Yichen a sense of the Flesh giants from the cancerous world, yet its intimidating presence was even more formidable.
The Flesh giant could be considered the immune system of a cancerous planet, while this creature was... a destroyer!
The stripped pieces of flesh that fell to the ground reassembled into a multitude of insects and other Extraordinary creatures. Zheng Yichen didn’t hesitate, swirling his long spear, the sky covered in fire clouds, as countless flaming meteors descended from above, crashing into the masses of insects.
Some insects began to absorb the Hellfire but turned into torches upon doing so; some things are not meant to be consumed by these insects.
"Boss, it is recommended that you rest before continuing to fight. You have already been engaged in high-intensity combat for a lengthy period," said the motorcycle, approaching Zheng Yichen after removing its camouflage. The projection of Lilith offered this advice.
Zheng Yichen had been fighting against vast numbers of insects for days and nights and had subsequently fought against two Arrivers. Now there was an even more troublesome entity present.
There was still time, and with the Boundary Breakers retreating in large numbers, taking a break was feasible. Moreover, this world’s indigenous combat forces were not just for show; shouldn’t they make some contribution?
"There’s no time for that now. Leaving this thing unchecked will lead to disaster," Zheng Yichen said, assessing the flesh creature before him with thermal vision. In a brief timeframe, its form began to ’mature.’
It was a type of creature Zheng Yichen had never seen, yet it resembled mythical beings, certainly not anything from texts like the Classic of Mountains and Seas known to his understanding. The thing was mountainous, with Zheng Yichen appearing as an insignificant hair in comparison.
Moreover, as this entity underwent changes, he saw a kind of ’heat source’ overlapping. Such overlapping directly led to the creature’s current form. Did the Descent of God Technique from the Great World come with such exaggeration?
He licked his lips slightly, "This thing... it’s not just a mass of nutrient solution."
Boom——
The earth trembled once more; Zheng Yichen’s eyes widened as he turned to look. What kind of commotion was this??
This tremor was more exaggerated than the last one. The mythical-like creature had only just broken through the soil, while now the entire land had been torn apart.
Zheng Yichen looked into the distance. This was not an illusion; the land was fractured under a dividing force, separated from the continental plate by the erupting force.
"Isn’t this a bit too late?" said Zheng Yichen somewhat speechlessly. The land that had been cleaved apart was incredibly vast, enough to form a new continent if dropped into an ocean. Such power could only be manifested in such high-end worlds.
The severing of the continent prevented the Alien Phenomenon creatures from extracting the land’s Life Force, cutting off their energy source. Okay... misunderstanding cleared. The indigenous inhabitants weren’t slacking off; instead, they had prepared a colossal contraption.
If measured against previous battles, this move the locals had played would genuinely be a trump card. As long as the sea of insects wasn’t endless, Zheng Yichen could exterminate them all, destroying everything associated with the Flesh carpet.
But the situation was different now.
Some engineers conducting observations on the outside also noticed the issue, "It seems a bit late—"
An engineer adjusted the observational equipment mounted on his head. The splitting of the earth had triggered intense earthquakes that had spread across the entire continent, but the people on site were prepared and were not significantly affected by the quake’s impact.
In cities, places like the Firmament Wheel offered protection, averting disasters, while in the wilderness... there’s not much to say. The creatures of the wilderness had long been exterminated in the wake of environmental imbalance, so even a tenfold stronger quake would elicit no complaints from any beings.
The earth, upturned, was held aloft by a restraining force field, and those gigantic machines were the source of this force field, splitting the continent.
The structure of the lifted earth was so loose it was unbelievable. Without the restraining force field, all they could have lifted would have been a pile of sand. One could imagine the extent to which the earth’s Life Force had been drained.
The structure of the earth was completely destroyed.
Unfortunately, they had always been passive in their observations of the interior of the Alien Phenomenon, and it was difficult for the devices they deployed inside to transmit signals back out. Not long ago, an Arriver had broken out and destroyed many of their positions.
A number of the local champions also suffered casualties. The weakening of the environment had too great an effect on the local champions. Although the enemy withdrew afterward, such a withdrawal was clearly not a good sign—most likely, it was brought about by a Proxy Agent.
After analysis by their think tank, the enemy’s withdrawal certainly heralded a major assault—so what exactly would it be?
Creak—
The restraining force field in the sky emitted a piercing noise. On the giant machine towering into the clouds next to the engineer, a dense shower of sparks burst forth, and he too was led away from the place.
In the distance, several other Continent Dividing Engines were also affected. With insufficient output, the strength of the restraining force fields plummeted dramatically, and loads of fine sand sprinkled down, dimming the sky. Movement within the Alien Phenomenon emitted even stronger disturbances.
The originally slow-moving Alien Phenomenon picked up speed...
"Retreat!!" roared the commander of a battle zone, as soldiers who had long been prepared began to withdraw at an accelerated pace.
As for some of the weapons sealing the front line, they were abandoned outright. They were well aware that once the Alien Phenomenon plowed through, the front line would be rendered meaningless.
Any person enveloped by the Alien Phenomenon, including local champions, was simply giving themselves up for nothing if they lacked adaptability.
Defending against those insects, they would bombard the ground with fire to prevent the insect-piled Alien Phenomenon from forming and approaching their defenses.
Faced with the rolling Alien Phenomenon, there was no other option but to flee. The restraining force field was useful, but it had already been broken. Without the restraining force field, the Alien Phenomenon faced no more obstacles.
Some slower transport planes were caught up in the Alien Phenomenon and, under automatic piloting, soon flew out at an accelerated rate—but the pilots and warriors inside had already fallen into a deep coma.
"Roar—come out!!" The behemoth, like a creature of myth, bellowed, its tough scales shattered by Zheng Yichen in a single confrontation. This time, Zheng Yichen intended to replicate the method he had used against the sandworm.
This wasn’t a game. When dealing with massive creatures, even footsurgery could take down the target.
The giant being attempted to block Zheng Yichen but failed. However, Zheng Yichen encountered some additional obstacles during his breakthrough this time.
Breaking through the creature’s defenses gave him the sensation of struggling against the environment itself. However, the weapon in his hand had been enhanced with Sky Pillar’s energy, and despite the uncomfortable sense of resistance, he managed to break the creature’s defense.
The moment he penetrated the creature’s body, he began to destroy it with utmost efficiency. Meteor fire rain unfolded within the creature, but due to the environmental impact, the fire cloud compressed, preventing the rain of meteors from forming. Instead, it turned into a massive explosion, blowing out a cavity surrounded by flesh and blood.
The resultant Hellfire was used by Zheng Yichen in secondary and tertiary explosions. As long as the space was small enough, such explosions could endlessly chain-react.
At the same time, he continued to plunder the behemoth’s blood. However, this blood didn’t seem to be deeply affected by the Arriver, resulting in less potent feedback, which left Zheng Yichen slightly disappointed.
Outside, the being, like a mythical creature, could only roar in fury. It was a ’Divine Beast’ of the Great World, possessing the traits of Heaven-Earth Shelter. In other words, it was naturally endowed with ’Unity of Heaven and Man.’
Even in different worlds, where the effect might not be too potent, such power, after being technologically and magically modified by the Great World side, could still attempt to achieve the extent of Heaven-Earth Shelter forcibly, though with side effects... which was being hated by Heaven and Earth afterward.
This technology was still in the experimental phase, aiming to eliminate such side effects or turn a permanent effect into a temporary one, or even to use stronger forcing power to disregard such ’hatred.’
