Chapter 46: Chapter 44: Are You Really Gentle?_1

Back in the small town, Zheng Yichen found a haystack to sit on and started to adjust his equipment. After a brief encounter, he had witnessed the Headless Knight’s immortality – surviving without a head and possessing remarkable regenerative abilities.

Impressive as it was, the strength of its body was much greater than that of an ordinary person’s, but not to the extent of being impervious to firearms. He wondered whether the creature could recover if it were blown to smithereens by a direct hit from a grenade.

He didn’t have a cannon, but he did have a mini-grenade, and since the Handgun hadn’t been able to break the Headless Knight’s arm, maybe swapping out for a shotgun slug could merit a retest.

"Okay, for the next encounter," Zheng Yichen nodded after he had adjusted the ammo for his weapon. Unfortunately, the gun store didn’t sell consumable weapons like grenades, which were even harder to acquire than bullet-proof vests. Even owning a Hunter license didn’t help much; at most, he could buy smoke and stun grenades, which weren’t cheap either.

Resting on the haystack, Zheng Yichen pulled up the video footage from his camera. He had a laptop in his backpack, a 12-inch portable model with a hard shell for protection, very resilient to rough handling. As for the smartphone, there was no need to mention that – such a device was essential when leaving home.

Watching the footage captured by the camera, Zheng Yichen briefly reviewed the playback. His confrontation with the Headless Knight had been extremely short, and he had not pursued when the Knight retreated, considering that the creature was hard to kill.

Having no prior knowledge at their first encounter, he thought about preparing more thoroughly for the next. If he couldn’t kill the creature outright, could he at least control it? He also carried high-strength wire but had kept it in his backpack – the situation hadn’t allowed him to use it.

With experience gained for the next action, he would definitely carry such items on him and find an opportunity to entangle the Headless Knight.

"What is that?" came a girl’s curious voice. Zheng Yichen looked up to see the speaker – a young blonde girl. It’s worth mentioning that while this town was remote, it truly possessed a Gothic style.

The girl’s dress was not as flashy as some Gothic dresses Zheng Yichen had seen in anime, but it was still quite pretty, clearly too expensive for the town’s ordinary residents to afford, marking her as one of the town’s rich ladies.

"A device for recording information," Zheng Yichen didn’t hide his smartphone. As for concealing modern electronic devices after transmigrating to the distant past... his approach depended on personal strength.

If one’s own strength was great and capabilities sufficient to handle trouble, then there was no big deal – just use the devices as needed. Their essence was to bring convenience, and he carried enough power banks, spare batteries, and charging panels. Considering the durability of his phone, he could make full use of it in this world for years without issues.

"Does every Hunter-Demon have one of these?" The girl’s curiosity was piqued, and she wanted to get a closer look at the smartphone in Zheng Yichen’s hand but felt it impolite to do so, which made her hesitant.

"It’s unique to me," Zheng Yichen shared his phone screen. After all, why not share it with a young, pretty girl who had come his way?

The girl hesitated for a moment before sitting down on the haystack, eyes fixed on the video playing on the phone. When the Headless Knight appeared amidst the mist, she couldn’t help but cover her mouth in surprise, "You encountered the Headless Knight??"

The camera was attached to Zheng Yichen, and the girl was now seeing a first-person perspective; she continued to watch as Zheng Yichen’s gunfire proved useless against the Headless Knight, and he switched to a long spear to unhorse the creature.

Seeing this, the girl next to him lit up with stars in her eyes. Zheng Yichen suddenly felt that perhaps this era wasn’t so bad after all? Compared to modern girls flooded with information from the internet, those from less developed times were more easily attracted to bravery.

Considering the current situation, he felt that if he behaved slightly irresponsibly or even a bit callously, it seemed he could take things further with her.

"You actually drove off the Headless Knight," the girl exclaimed as she watched the video of the Headless Knight leaving.

"...It’s not really driving off; he left on his own," Zheng Yichen said, feeling a bit uneasy under the girl’s admiring gaze, mainly because he didn’t consider what he had accomplished as something particularly impressive. If he had truly done something remarkable, he would have killed the creature.

And you, girl, aren’t your reactions to the smartphone a bit too calm? Normally, wouldn’t you have a more traditional response? Like thinking this device was some sort of evil artifact that could imprison a person’s soul, or something like that, yada yada.

"My name is Katrina, and I’m very glad to meet you."

"My name is Chang Qing."

"You really are a foreigner," Katrina said with some surprise.

"What do you mean?" Zheng Yichen asked while searching for a movie on his phone.

"Appearances, for one; we’ve all been so curious about you." Katrina mentioned how her social circle was buzzing with talk of Zheng Yichen, the newcomer who had quickly become the talk of the town. His black hair might not have been rare, but his facial features set him apart from the locals.

The people in her circle speculated wildly about Zheng Yichen’s origins, and as the chatty girl continued, she said, "And you’re quite different from what we expected a Hunter-Demon to look like, but after seeing this, I believe you are one."

"The image of a... Hunter-Demon?"

The blonde girl nodded, describing what she thought a Hunter-Demon looked like. After hearing her out, Zheng Yichen was a bit astonished; what a stereotype! Well, considering the industrial development of the era, the characteristics Katrina described weren’t really off.

In a modernized world, that kind of attire would be more suitable for a comic con.

"By the way, are you going to attend our banquet?"

"?" A small town has banquets? No, wait, haven’t there been several murders here just recently, and they’re still throwing banquets? Are they celebrating those deaths?

"As a professional Hunter-Demon, I think I should first deal with the Headless Knight; that’s the priority," Zheng Yichen said earnestly.

Mostly because that sword that emits green flames looks really cool!

"But that doesn’t stop you from attending the banquet, right? What’s this place in the record? It looks different from the last one," Katrina asked curiously as she watched Zheng Yichen navigate through the movies.

"Think of this as a special kind of stage play," he said, finding it too complicated to explain movies.

"But it doesn’t look like something performed on stage."

Katrina found it utterly fascinating. As the rich daughter of a family in town, she had certainly seen stage plays, but the movies Zheng Yichen played for her were nothing like the plays she had seen—they were much too real. And the costumes worn by the people inside the movies matched Zheng Yichen’s style, but not the style of her town.

Had foreign stage plays become this impressive?

"It’s similar to a stage play; I said that to make it easier for you to understand."

"You’re really kind."

"... "
