Chapter 437: Chapter 346 Alien Demon_1
"Alright, do you have any business here?" After finishing his own business, Zheng Yichen glanced over the situation within the Dusk Territory.
There were only two remaining Dusk maidservants in this world; aside from them, there were quite a few other people here. However, those people were destined not to be normal guests in this world but rather ’spies’ from various factions within this world.
If any ordinary person wanted to come here, they would be stopped by them... No, ordinary people couldn’t even get close; they would be obstructed by others arranged outside before even reaching this place.
To say they were parasites, well, the people here were also formally obedient. The parasites would be those who attempted to monopolize Dusk, and it seemed Dusk didn’t care about these trivial matters.
Dusk might not care, but Zheng Yichen somewhat did; after all, he was an official employee of Dusk. But the clever people here, when they felt Zheng Yichen’s gaze, promptly shifted their eyes away, not making eye contact with him, with no intention of provoking him either.
"No." Liu Hongzhao shook her head; her expression was softer when alone with Zheng Yichen but became icy upon arriving here.
"Then let’s prepare to leave, wait for me below." Zheng Yichen said and sought out a native Dusk maidservant, asking a question that Yi Nan had previously speculated about: "After the alien demons in this world regain their intelligence on a large scale, will you recruit more members?"
Liu Hongzhao’s expression turned icy upon hearing the question.
"We will." The Dusk maidservant replied calmly. There were some questions they could choose not to answer, but this one wasn’t off-limits to Proxy Agents, so she continued, "In fact, we have already recruited more."
Liu Hongzhao’s complexion tightened; she didn’t know Yi Nan’s surmise, but during the idle chit-chat on the afternoon ’outing,’ Qi Xiangyun had mentioned this matter.
"...May I meet her?"
"If it’s you, you may." The Dusk maidservant directly ignored Liu Hongzhao. Proxy Agents and Dusk mercenaries were not treated equally.
"Brother Chang Qing, I’ll wait for you here." Liu Hongzhao promptly found a spot and sat down.
Zheng Yichen, however, followed the Dusk maidservant to another place, a study. It was no surprise to have a study in the Dusk Territory, which even had a medical room. Zheng Yichen even casually pulled out a book from next to him and began to read. The information recorded inside wasn’t about the truths of the world.
It was like a record from ancient times, and the book he read was about the War of Gods and Demons, and specifically recent events, like conflicts between the Battle Maniac Asura and other Supreme Demons.
After this war, the Supreme Demons temporarily fell into decline, but they did not completely vanish. They were not dead but merely in hibernation.
"This... If I come here when I have free time, would I be able to know everything to a certain extent?" Zheng Yichen was somewhat astonished at the books on the shelves.
"Not really." The Dusk maidservant who had led Zheng Yichen here replied, "The information in these books is delayed. A record will only appear here after a certain number of intelligent beings in the native world become aware of an event."
"That’s a pity, but it’s also quite special," Zheng Yichen remarked while looking at the dense rows of bookshelves. One could know everything to a certain extent here, but this extent was very limited; it didn’t require too much consideration.
After passing by some bookshelves, they arrived at the center of the ’study,’ where Zheng Yichen saw a desk. Next to the desk was a candle, and a young girl, around ten years old, was looking down at a thick book.
When Zheng Yichen arrived, the girl lifted her head to look at him; her eyes had pupils that were vertical, different from ordinary people, and the edges of the pupils had some slightly disordered patterns, similar to enchanted runes. Her ears were pointier than an average person’s, her skin color paler than a human’s, and on her right cheek, she had red-colored, rune-like enchanted patterns.
The enchanted patterns followed the right side of her face down to her neck, with more parts being covered by her clothes; there were many other details about her that were different from ordinary people. As for her overall resemblance to a human... wasn’t that quite normal?
The predecessors of alien demons were the human race. No matter how much they changed, as long as they weren’t badly deformed alien demons, they would appear more human-like after regaining their intelligence, although being identical to humans was impossible.
"Hello." The alien demon girl spoke.
Through her slightly pale lips, Zheng Yichen could see the tips of her teeth, which were extra sharp compared to a human’s. But to Zheng Yichen’s eyes, they seemed very neat, a trait common to Dusk maidservants.
The average appearance of Dusk maidservants was very high, so why would there be so many small problems?
"Hello," Zheng Yichen quickly greeted.
The alien demon girl said again, "I am still growing and it will take some time before I can leave here. After that, we won’t have many chances to meet."
"... You will have many of your kind in the future, right?"
The alien demon girl nodded and then shook her head, "The term ’kind’ is meaningless here. It is only after an alien demon gains intelligence that my existence comes to be, and the ’us’ that emerge in the future will be the same."
"Here we are known as Dusk maidservants or Dusk nuns, just titles to help intelligent beings understand better."
Accordingly, the image is the same?
Zheng Yichen raised an eyebrow, realizing that this alien demon girl wouldn’t provide any more useful information, so he didn’t linger any longer.
To continue questioning would merely result in the typical responses one would expect from a normal Dusk maidservant.
The useful part was that in the future, there really would be quite a number of alien demon templates for Dusk maidservants here.
"When humans from this world come here to cultivate and recuperate in the future, will your human-like Dusk maidservants also return to how they once were? Or are those who were transferred out before going to be brought back in?" Zheng Yichen asked a Dusk maidservant beside him as he left the study.
The Dusk maidservants here will not disappear, Tia and Zheng Yichen had explained this. If this world came to an end, the local Dusk Territory would be integrated into other Dusk Territories; the Dusk nuns, too, would merge with different Dusk Territories.
Because the population in a normal world is also increasing, and with this increase, new Dusk nuns will emerge. The Dusk nuns integrated into those worlds would be exempt from an ’increase’ process, ensuring they wouldn’t be out of a job.
At least for now, they wouldn’t be unemployed, and the normally increasing Dusk nuns... well, Zheng Yichen had just seen one, the alien demon Dusk maidservant in the study who hadn’t yet grown up, who might very well be a grown woman the next time they met.
The Dusk maidservant following Zheng Yichen said, "They won’t be called back; it’s possible that Dusk maidservants from other places will come here, but it’s also possible that new Dusk maidservants will grow up here."
"I see, no more questions then."
From this answer, at least it seems that the human race in this world still has a chance to carve out a future of survival, but they will need to find ways to strengthen themselves or possess a formidable force capable of deterring the intellectually awakened alien demons from harboring widespread destructive intentions towards humans.
Having returned to the outside of the Dusk Territory, Zheng Yichen saw a middle-aged man angrily leaving Liu Hongzhao’s side with a wave of his sleeve.
Zheng Yichen walked over, "Who’s that? Why so angry?"
"An overestimating Diviner," Liu Hongzhao said indifferently, blinking and then adding as if recalling something, "Brother Chang Qing said that I would eventually die miserably at the hands of a Supreme Demon, or even worse, live a life worse than death."
"Who is he to say such a thing?" Zheng Yichen raised an eyebrow. After speaking with Yi Nan, Zheng Yichen had updated his impressions of Diviners. Yi Nan’s abilities were decent, and he had a very clear understanding of his profession.
Diviners are not the puppeteers who decide human fate; they can be traders, gamblers, or even ordinary workers...
If that Diviner talked like that, how formidable he must be, daring to change destiny against all odds? But whether he had enough fortune to back up his words remained to be seen.
"Don’t listen to his nonsense, everyone who has ever breathed or drunk water has also died. As a Diviner, he dares to let out such gibberish; he’ll have a taste of his own medicine in the future."
Zheng Yichen took Liu Hongzhao’s hand and walked away from the Dusk Territory. With the matters here settled, and the day getting late, it was time to head back.
As for that Diviner... Zheng Yichen was not just all talk. Ordinary people could get away with saying whatever, but Diviners, even if they weren’t using Divination Art to ’decide’ anything, sometimes couldn’t afford to speak carelessly.
Especially when said in front of certain people; since Liu Hongzhao had the fate of a Daughter of Heaven’s Mandate in this world, and he had still spoken that way, it meant he would pay a heavy price at some point in the future.
