Chapter 394: Chapter 313 Have you insulated this thing?_1

"This is the research report." Ahn Longling brought up a simplified research report, which even an outsider like Zheng Yichen could quickly understand.

After reading it, Zheng Yichen looked back at the cadaver. Initially, he thought it was messed up by a facehugger bug, but according to the information in the research report, the victim’s internal organs had mutated and come to life.

The cadaver’s internal organs had mutated due to external factors, but this was confined to the organs themselves—the rest of the body, including the brain, remained unchanged.

The mutated organs were a source of incredible agony for the victim before bursting out of the chest. Part of the reason the body looked like this was due to the influence of the mutated organs.

After the mutation reached a certain level, an unknown composite aberration emerged from the chest, instantly killing the victim. That creature then gnawed on some of the flesh, consumed parts of the brain, and took the eyes.

"Truly bizarre."

"It’s alright." Ahn Longling appeared quite composed in front of an unfazed Zheng Yichen. She had seen her fair share of anomalous events and even stranger corpses. This one, although rather unsettling, was nothing extraordinary to her—it was just a case of internal organs mutating and escaping.

Once that thing was located, a trained combat squad could completely obliterate it.

Aberrant creatures were not made of steel; based on the premise that they still had flesh and blood, and considering the environment of Hazy City was not exceptionally powerful, no mutation could defy nature massively—it was just a bit more troublesome.

"This body was recovered from an Evil ritual, and so far, thirteen sites of such rituals have been found... now it’s fifteen." Ahn Longling corrected herself as she read a message on her phone.

"Hmm... did you keep the body warm?"

"No."

"Then there might still be a problem with this body." Zheng Yichen, using his thermal vision, said as he saw ’heat sources’ on the cadaver. Since no additional warmth was provided, these heat sources were suspicious—resembling active little snakes lingering within the body.

"..." Ahn Longling immediately pushed a button, and the cadaver rapidly dissolved under the influence of a certain gas. The entire process took less than ten seconds, yet Zheng Yichen still observed that heat source which failed to break through the transparent container.

Without a word, Ahn Longling operated the nearby computer. Faint purple light illuminated the inside of the containment vessel, but even under that scan, there was no detection of anomalies. She turned to Zheng Yichen, "No special energy was detected. If your senses are not mistaken, then it must be a kind of special power that has evaded detection."

Bodies sent here would certainly not be taken straight to the research facility, especially those found at the sites of Evil rituals. The scene’s staff handled them with great care, as any negligence might result in death, becoming yet another entry in the safety manual.

With an anomaly involved, who would dare be careless?

"It’s also possible that this energy is no longer a conventional type of force. I’ll make a call." Zheng Yichen took out his phone, as he did not believe that the detection equipment of the research institute was inadequate; something else was likely the cause of the failure to detect.

While Zheng Yichen made his call, Ahn Longling had already arranged another matter. In a room, several individuals clad in protective suits looked anxious. They were in the middle of work when suddenly brought here—not hooded, but these protective suits might as well have been hoods.

The suits were designed to protect not just from external but also internal threats. What’s going on? Was there some dangerous research awaiting? Could there be new discoveries?

They were anxious yet expectant.

"They are the ones who had participated in the research before, do you see any problem?"

If there’s a problem, could your group of people directly kill all of them? Zheng Yichen looked at the two armed personnel standing not far from Ahn Longling. They were dressed very heavily, and from the chest area, they appeared female but very robust!

After checking the people in the room using thermal vision, Zheng Yichen shook his head, "No problem."

He did not see any abnormal heat sources on those people.

"Then go fetch the people."

The person Zheng Yichen had called was Eileena. After realizing that the anomalous ’heat source’ was not a conventional type of special power, his mind turned to the Forest Witch, who was adept in the necromantic skill.

Upon arriving at the research institute, Alina was very interested in the equipment there. However, after seeing that she also had some of these devices, she immersed herself into the tasks at hand.

Facing the sealed container that was still holding the an energy, Alina took out some ochre powder from the bag she carried, "If it’s not a normal energy, it might be some kind of power related to the mental or soul. And this type of power is very difficult to detect normally."

Like normal special energies, they usually have enough influence or distortion on the environment, and such influences can be detected with some instruments.

Mental power is like air, easily overlooked by instruments, and if the power is eerie, even individuals with strong mental powers may find it difficult to detect.

"Release this powder’s smoke into the inside; it can absorb some mental-related powers," Eileena explained the function of the powder. Necromancy excels at detecting those subtle mental-related powers and hidden spirits.

Ahn Longling immediately arranged for people to do this; it was confirmed that the power could not be detected with the detection equipment in place, but the sealed container was of sufficient quality and insulating properties to prevent that power from escaping.

After all, the research institute was used by Ahn Ke, and no one dared to cut corners. Those who dared to do so were already experimental subjects in Ahn Ke’s hands.

As the burning powder filled the sealed container with white smoke, the entire container was engulfed, but the smoke quickly turned into a pale red and then blood red, making it look like the container had been filled with blood.

A twisted human face emerged in the churning red smoke, violently colliding against the sealed container, trying to break through from within, but it seemed that the entity was not very strong. There was a faint slapping sound as it struck the container, but it seemed impossible for it to break through what Zheng Yichen estimated to be a bulletproof container.

"What is this supposed to be? Give me a quick science lesson," Zheng Yichen turned to Eileena.

Eileena also seemed somewhat unsure, "It might be some kind of Evil Spirit... I need to learn more relevant information."

Ahn Longling immediately had a comprehensive set of data prepared for her, related to that Evil ritual.
