Chapter 376: Chapter 300 Hooked_1
Outside, in the tumultuous desert sands below, giant sandworms periodically burst from the earth, like fish gasping for air, slamming their bodies back onto the ground after surfacing. This caused quakes and the impact kicked up massive sandstorms.
As time passed, the sandworms became increasingly active, and the twisting of their enormous bodies grew more intense.
Far behind the trail of the sandworms, a projection watched the time displayed on the motorcycle’s screen—it had been forty minutes, nearing Zheng Yichen’s limit for combat operations.
Of course, according to Lilith’s calculations, the oxygen stored in the battle suit was not truly Zheng Yichen’s limit. His actual limit could be extended by another ten minutes.
The current environment reduced Zheng Yichen’s physical condition to that of an ordinary person, but some of his innate characteristics were still present, such as his Iron Lungs. Zheng Yichen could hold his breath for over ten minutes. By reducing his activity, challenging his own limits, Lilith’s analysis concluded that Zheng Yichen’s extreme combat time could exceed sixty minutes.
But that wouldn’t last much longer unless Zheng Yichen found a chance to breathe.
The sandstorms and the sandworm’s size disrupted observation, preventing Lilith from ascertaining Zheng Yichen’s condition. Even continuously adjusting the angle of observation to lock onto where Zheng Yichen penetrated the sandworm, only a no longer bleeding ’small hole’ was visible from that location.
For the sandworm’s size, that hole was like a needle prick.
As time went on, the probability of Zheng Yichen’s survival decreased, some energy plates on the motorcycle opened up, accelerating energy accumulation, saving up extra power—in case Zheng Yichen died in battle, it would no longer have a purpose.
Staying here made it easy for enemies to capture...
Inside the sandworm, Zheng Yichen endured the discomfort on his body. The battle suit had severely deformed due to the violent muscle contractions and impacts of the sandworm.
Moreover, the interior of the sandworm suffered extensive damage from Zheng Yichen. Initially, he had to face the pressure of sand, but as he continued to drain blood, the inside of the sandworm gradually withered, and his operational area increased. The rate at which sand filled the wounds could not keep up with the pace of withering inside the sandworm.
However, once it began to feel severe discomfort internally, the creature started inflicting damage on itself. Intense vibrations from outside the sandworm made Zheng Yichen feel like a mouse trapped in a jar, which was being stuffed full of firecrackers!
The vibrations were so strong that the battle suit’s built-in dampeners started to fail. Fortunately, within this environment, the sandworm’s body was robust and massive, containing no special forces inside, save for that hallucinogenic powder!
After the battle suit sustained further damage, internal circulation problems arose, and Zheng Yichen inadvertently inhaled a bit of dust. Hallucinations began appearing before his eyes, and even with closed eyes, he saw bizarre images.
The auditory hallucinations made him particularly irritable, and he set a fire. The sandworm had a robust constitution, and its blood was of high quality. The Hellfire he unleashed, although not in great quantity, was enough to ignite the sandworm’s flesh. Zheng Yichen’s black spear was anchored in the creature’s blood-soaked flesh.
With another strong jolt, Zheng Yichen spat out a mouthful of blood. Now it was a contest to see who would give out first, him or the sandworm.
The hallucinations and auditory distortions continued to affect Zheng Yichen, making it difficult for him to accurately assess his surroundings, but thermal vision allowed him to locate more lethal areas of the sandworm.
What its vulnerabilities were, Zheng Yichen didn’t know, but the concentrated heat sources inside had to be important.
The black long spear, now with a slight greenish flame, struck a concentrated heat source. Because of the hallucinations, Zheng Yichen couldn’t make out what he hit. In his eyes, he saw a girl he knew well... very well indeed, after all, they slept together every night after he got home.
After puncturing that heat source, Zheng Yichen felt a surge of blood feedback, replenishing the Life Force he drained to convert into Hellfire. Unfortunately, the Hellfire was too little. After igniting the sandworm’s flesh, it needed time to spread.
It allowed some things from that heat source to escape. Swinging his other hand’s battle saber, he sliced through another heat source. Zheng Yichen blinked hard, lessening the hallucinations slightly, clearing up his vision enough to get a real look at his surroundings. He seemed to have entered a hive...
Around him, smaller sandworms ignited by the Hellfire twisted and struggled fiercely, spreading the flames to other areas. These worms looked like alien juveniles that had escaped from a facehugger bug.
Underneath him lay a recently slain sandworm, as thick as an adult’s arm. Furthermore, this environment was filled with a tan ’dust’.
Afterward, Zheng Yichen’s vision was again covered by hallucinations, the overlapping scenes of hallucinations and thermal vision caused him extreme discomfort.
As some sandworm larvae charged toward Zheng Yichen, sending shivers down his spine, a shockwave hit, scattering the accumulated strips of heat sources in Zheng Yichen’s eyes. Several of the heat sources landed on his body.
The shrill sound of sharp teeth gnawing at the battle suit mixed with auditory hallucinations rang out, Zheng Yichen’s right hand swung the battle saber at a sandworm larva that was biting towards his unprotected left arm, while his left hand holding the black spear birthed new Hellfire.
Zheng Yichen felt his left palm dry up a bit and cursed inwardly. Not only do the Boundary Breakers that despise low environments hate it, but now he has begun to detest this kind of low environment as well!!
Only a little bit of Hellfire was squeezed out, and the Withering Disease was relapsing!
Twirling the black spear in his hand, he flung the approaching heat sources away. The sandworm larvae that were struck by the Hellfire ignited and writhed violently on the ground. To Zheng Yichen’s eyes, those squirming, dense strips of heat sources were like eels thrown into a frying pan.
With a multitude of sandworm larvae exploding into action, Zheng Yichen, because of the hallucinations, couldn’t see the revolting scene. What he saw at that moment was a reed bed swayed by a gentle breeze, a landscape so captivating that one could not extricate themselves...
However, just thinking about what he had seen turns this captivating scenery into something horrific in an instant. Such disgusting hallucinations, although Zheng Yichen could resist them mentally and maintain a clear self-awareness that what he was seeing were just illusions, and the auditory hallucinations were merely the result of the dust-induced disordered memories.
But having a clear self-awareness did not allow him to escape the effects of the hallucinations. These hallucinations and auditory hallucinations didn’t seem to affect his spirit; they acted directly on his brain. His mental resistance was high, but there was no way to eliminate these abnormalities due to physical issues.
Moreover, his sense of touch was starting to malfunction. His left arm might have been bitten by a sandworm, but he felt no pain in his arm. The tactile sensation from the weapons he was holding was also slightly off, growing increasingly heavy.
Even with flawed visual and auditory senses, he could still judge using thermal vision, but with the sense of touch implicated, he glanced at his own left hand and saw a red serpent wrapped around his left arm. The black spear, due to its close connection with him, did not present much of an issue.
But the battle saber in his right hand turned into a telephone pole?
Looking at this telephone pole, Zheng Yichen found that his right hand was immobilized, as if he really had grabbed onto a telephone pole, while the black spear became exceedingly heavy.
"Damn it..." He shut his eyes, but even then, the persistent hallucinations remained. Zheng Yichen took a deep breath, released his grip with his right hand, and as he looked down at his battle suit, it had transformed into a straitjacket, the kind worn by mental patients.
Zheng Yichen felt his mobility growing increasingly limited.
Another shockwave hit, sending him tumbling into an empty cavity within the sandworm’s body together with those frenzied strips of heat sources.
Zheng Yichen took a deep breath. The hallucinations induced by the dust had too great an impact on his body. Objectively, he knew it was all fake, but the fact that his body wouldn’t respond was fatal. Continuing like this would only worsen his predicament.
Even if he could generate more Hellfire, it would not be possible to burn the sandworm to death in a short time. The amount of Hellfire was too small and would need time to spread completely. He also needed to draw more blood from the sandworm to replenish his own consumption.
In a life-or-death situation, Zheng Yichen’s mind became agitated. The intense, deadly malice stimulated his mental state, and when he reopened his eyes, they were bloodshot and turned completely red; the serene hallucinations that appeared in his eyes also became bloodstained.
It was as if he had returned to that cancerous planet again, where masses of fleshy creatures writhed, twisted, and screamed in chaos, crawling towards him. The chunks of flesh in the hallucinations completely covered him, making him feel as if he had become a ’flesh person’.
But he could move now, his frenzied mental state inversely stimulated his body, even causing some change in the dust’s effects on his body. The black spear in his hand shattered the approaching sandworm larvae, sweeping over those gnawing on him with a faint Hellfire, causing them to struggle as they fell to the ground.
The black spear in Zheng Yichen’s hands manifested attacking spikes, whisking away each sandworm larva that approached. Their bodies, which were not highly durable, dried up instantly upon being impaled on the spikes.
His eyes still saw that dark red world of Flesh, with the surrounding flesh pulsating and breathing, still an inescapable hallucination. However, this hallucination was almost synchronized with the heat sources seen through the thermal vision; that is... it made Zheng Yichen feel his mental state was too agitated and manic.
It seemed like he was in a frenzy, but he couldn’t see what his current expression and condition actually were...
